Caller ID says caller is Thrivent, same name as my life insurance company; but no message is left, and Thrivent doesn't call me unless I have called them asking a question.
If it really was Thrivent, they would have left a message; so it's obviously not an accurate caller id description.

These calls are from Thrivent, which is a large insurance company.  They cold call folks and run a scam in which they promise a "free financial review" which is nothing more than an insurance sale in disguise.  They say they are "financial planners" when they are really insurance salesmen.  Other companies like MetLife and State Farm run the same scam.  Don't let these folks into your home.  They will typically target older folks and just keep calling over and over.

I've been getting these calls too.  I have policies with Thrivent, but you think they would leave a message.  Maybe I will catch one of these calls and settle it.

Several call over the past three weeks.  If I answer (I usually don't) the caller identifies herself as calling on behalf of Thrivent and I'm asked to take a brief survey (I decline).  Last time I asked to be removed from the list immediately.   I have still received several calls in since then.  Because I do have a policy w/them, I don’t think the Do Not Call rules are applied in the same was as to companies with which I have no business.  Nonetheless, this does not reflect well on Thrivent.

The reason people are getting repeated calls is that companies such as Thrivent use a technique called "reloading" in which they continually call people who have fallen for a previous scam.  This typically targets older folks and preys upon those who have been tricked before while in search of legit products and services.  Companies comprise lists of potential victims and then forward them to a more experienced group of telemarketers for additional calls.  Companies are allowed to call folks they do business with, but customers are also allowed to say they do not wish to be contacted or to limit how they are contacted.  Again, when these large insurance companies call for a "financial review" do not allow them into your home.  They are insurance telemarketers, not financial planners.  It's a lot easier to tell them "NO" the first time than to try to get your money back later in court. Judges do order restitution, but collection of those amounts can be difficult.

My family has had insurance policies with Thrivent all our lives. It's an excellent company with good products. In the beginning they sold only insurance, but they now also offer investment planning free for their policy holders. One of the many services we received was excellent advice about buying long term care insurance. On our own we would have over bought (a common mistake), but our agent/planner  advised us on what we would need and the best buy. Yes, they do suggest their products to help you plan financially, but that's the norm and to be expected.  But they never tried to sell us something we didn't need or were already thinking of buying. Thrivent is a fraternal group giving money to many charities, they aren't on the stock exchange and...they are financially very, very stable.

I see that Thrivent's recent Chairman, President and CEO Bruce Nicholson has donated thousands of dollars -- the maximum allowed by law -- to Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann's recent reelection campaigns. Maybe this is where some of those extra premium charges go at Thrivent -- they are one of the most expensive investment firms with huge loads that Lutheran retirees pay. I just want to thank Thrivent's President Nicholson and all those hardworking insurance agents at Thrivent for helping us end collective bargaining in Wisconsin -- now let's go break some more unions! Thrivent is open for more business in Wisconsin! Now let's go make more money off poor old Lutherans. Praise the Lord and the Republican party.

We have a great advisor.  Love the company, way more care for you than many other financial companies.  And they pile millions into your community instead of their executives pockets.

I called this number back, and yes, it is Thrivent.  There was a recorded message saying the calls are for a survey about your personal agent. I'm happy with Thrivent, but not with robo-calls.

It is a good company and a dissapointment that someone has hijacked their name or a rogue agent is sending out calls.  I know locally they match fundraisers for various local charitable events and are well thought of.  We have policies with them and our local agent is great but even I am ticked by unsolicited calls.  If I want something I'll call.  Any scammer could call and say he was someone else..best if you initiate the call for security reasons.

Thrivent does associate themselves with churches in your area and does a lot for your community, but the representative is self employed.  If someone would turn the representative into Thrivent for even the SEC for his behavior, they would be able to do something about.  You can't expect them to have ESP and know everything that goes on.  Educate yourselves a little before you point fingers.

Representatives have nothing to do with the company they work for because they are all self employed.  What your rep did should have nothing to do with Thrivent.  Your problem should be with him, not the company.  Thrivent is extremely giving to their surrounding communities and are very involved.  You won't find another investment company like them.

You all must be kidding me.  Some of these posts are childish.  Thrivent Financial happens to be one of the most secure organizations in the world and is simply trying to get feed back from our members or past members.  The call you are recieving is a SERVICE TO YOU...not to sell you anything.  By the way...most of you could most likely use some financial advice to put your family in a better possition.  Instead of complaining that you are getting a call from a financial planning company, maybe you should take the call and start planning your life and protecting your family.

As for you in PA...get over it.  The agent clearly has an issue with HIS morals...that does not mean Thrivent Financial is a bad company.  Maybe you should talk to the agent personally before you write such bad reviews about a great company that happens to have an employee with questionalbe ethics.

Finally, I would suggest all of you find a planning firm that you trust.  Whether it's Thrivent Financial or another firm, get started now before it's too late...and quite complaining so much.

You are the smartest person on this post.  I agree, what is up with the person acting like they are losing sleep because a local insurance agent is cheating on his spouse.  Who cares?  And what does that have to do with Thrivent?  How is a company supposed to monitor personal relationships of their employees?  And if getting a call from them is that traumatic, you guys  all have a lot of time on your hands:)

Just because you _heard_ that a single representative "cheats" on his wife is not representative of such a large organization-keep your soap operas to yourself.  Secondly, haven't you people ever heard of phone number recycling?  You know...when SOMEONE ELSE had your number before you.  SOMEONE ELSE who probably did business with thrivent?

I think I'm a bit more stupid just from having read through your inane banter.  They're NOT telemarketing.  They're doing a survey and the "do not call" list does not apply.  Do I enjoy getting such calls?  Not really, but it doesn't bother me in the least.  Just ignore it.  If it bothers everyone so much, actually PICK UP the phone and ask that they not call you any longer. "Lastly, if you are receiving this call, then you or someone who used to have your number is a member of this fraternal benefit organization.  This survey is only for members of Thrivent."

You're wrong. I've never done any business with them or have had any association with them, yet they call me constantly. According to my caller ID, they've called six times this week alone. They're just plain annoying and even if they offered a valid service or product, I would never do any business with them.

@Topeka: You are correct. I used to be with the company when the surveys were going around. The reason most people hear silence when they answer is 1) we used a call center to conduct it and 2) we had secondhand/inferior equipment to do it from [I had to use a PC that was running Windows 98, for crying out loud]. Many times the automated dialer would not properly connect and the recipient would only hear silence on their side (I can hear THEM, however, just as they grumble and hang up).
@ Brian (and Medic54: You are also correct. See the Federal Trade Commission's own site regarding the DNC registry: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt107.shtm, number 28 describes how it governs surveys. If you doubt the validity of the call, ask the caller for their verification. Whether the rest of you believe me or not is up to you, and keep in mind that your TF4L Reps are HUMAN and not flawless robots. Most of the callers I surveyed actually said their reps were stretched too thin over too wide an area for them to even get to know them like during the earlier days.
