nothing -- left to answering machine, no comments.  Called at 3:11pm

I got a call from the same number and i called back to see  who it is. it is from the Conservative Party of Canada.

I got a call, but it was dead when I answered. Thanks to the above poster on the call back, I am a member of the party and they do call me from time to time.

Dead air, called the number back and learned it was the Conservative Party of Canada.

Called at 9:30 p.m March 23, 2009.  I was in bed when the call woke me up.  Didn't get there in time to answer it.

CallerID shows "613-219-1293" (including quotation marks) for the name.  I did not recognize the number, so I let the computer answer.  No message was left, but based on reports given here, I have put a block on the number.

Thanks for the comments here to determine who this is...If you don't have the courtesy to leave a message when calling at dinner time - Don't bother calling again - Thanks Shaw for the call blocking feature!

Who is this person, company?

I got this caller and the caller ID said the number with quotation marks and without the 1 at the begining all try asked for is my Dad.  then I checked on Canada 411 and they couldn't identify the phone number so I check the area codes and 613 is from somewhere in Ontario

The most interesting thing about these crooks is the caller ID NAME appearing in quotes "613-219-1293". Wonder how they do that?

They just don't stop calling me last days, but I don't answer when I see a phone number I don't know. No messages left. But I'm wondering how did they get my number, because it supposed to be confidential.

You did not answer my question:

Is 1-613-219-1293 a valid phone number used by the conservative party of Canada?

If so, why have I been receiving on average one or more calls per day from this number, all of the calls being dead air? (I pick up but the other end is silent)

Please ANSWER the first question.
I, and many other Canadians who have supported the conservative party, would like to know if this is truly from the conservative party of Canada's fund-raising campaign.

If these calls are not legit, then something should be done to deal with this phone spam as it tarnishes the conservative party's reputation(this includes letting us know that these calls do not originate from the conservative party.)

If these calls are legit, then something should be done about it as Canadians who support the conservative party do NOT wish to be spammed with daily dead-air calls.

I am not the only one receiving dead-air calls from this number.


Please ANSWER the questions.



PS. Don't 'happily' remove me from your call list as I do wish to support the conservative party, but please do answer the questions.

I can confirm that the calls from this number originate with the fundraising division of the Conservative Party of Canada.
On the issue of dead air, the only reason you receive this is that you are not patient.  Call centers use a technology called "auto-dialling".  Operators do not physically dial a number from a phone set.  It is automated using a very sophisticated computer system.  The phone numbers are loaded into the system, the phone system then sees how many phone operators are sitting waiting to take a call.  The autodialler starts dialling a number from the list.  When the dialler detects that the number is ringing through, it tells the phone system that there is a call coming through shortly, the phone system now finds an available telephone operator.  When you pick up the phone, a signal is sent to the phone system to say that you have picked it up.  It is at THIS POINT that the system attempts to connect you to an available operator.  There is a slight delay while the system sends you to an available operator - and this operator could be in the same building or half way around the world!  The dead air you hear is this delay from the time you pickup to the time the system connects to an operator.  YOu don't have to like it, but this is the way it is.  It's far more efficient that giving a list of numbers to an operator to dial manually.  The system also tracks which calls were answered so that if you did answer, it does not put your number back in the queue to be called again anytime soon.

I am a receptionist at a buisness and they constantly call daily. Everytime I get a call from a telemarketer I wait until they answer so I can tell them to take our number off of their calling list. However, they consistently hang up promply after I answer, leaving me with a dial tone.
So Mark you are inaccurate to say that people are not patient.
I am extremely irritated with these phone calls and they disrupt my busy workday!

As far as I know, it's illegal to use auto-dialers in Canada. It's also illegal to call people who are on the laughable DNC list. Thanks Conservative party...you've given us the two most expensive, useless jokes of legislation...the gun control law (criminals don't register their guns) and the Do Not Call list (low-life telemarketers purchase it as a treasure trove of confirmed active phone numbers.) Welcome to the inaction and inept style of Canadian legislators and their watchdog "enforcers" like the CRTC. I suspect this phone number is actually a telemarketer operating out of the US and spoofing the number. Report it to your phone company.

This makes at least a dozen times I've been called by (613-219-1293 "6132191293"), which is how it appears on my call display. A callback would seem to indicate the Conservative Party of Canada but I am now suspecting it's a "spoofed" number as I can't imagine the fundraisers calling on Sunday's or after 9 pm as some have indicated the calls where. I've formally had the call traced by the telephone company and am prepared to take legal action, so I'm keeping a log of the calls. Enough is enough.

I just don't get how PC is the only party that ever calls to harass people! I don't ever hear anything from the Liberals or NDP etc. Just the same phone calls from these rude PC guys.

There was one time that I picked up, and they directly asked me who I was going to vote for in the then-upcoming election. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I was pretty sure they weren't allowed to ask that...

Get these calls all the time.  Mostly asking for my wife.  Today it was a lady and she didn't want to talk to me.   I think its the PC's asking for donations.  Not from me though !

It is Conservative party, probably calling people who have helped them...i have no problem if is a rare call, but i told them they called way too many times and asked to be removed from the list...so far it has worked.

This number has called several times before.Called today (Sunday); no one answered when I picked up after only 2 rings.

I'm receiving these calls as well. Seems to me that it is some idiot trying to discredit the Conservative Party, like they did by planting a false Press report at the Copenhagen meeting.

I don't support the PC party and I take offense to implying I am not intelligent.  I have university education and  can guarantee a higher IQ than you.  A more truthful thing t say would be hat only close minded bigots who think they are superior to someone else because of their social standing or race or religion would support the conservatives.  The idea that smart people only support the Conservative party is not only insulting to the majority of the country (as thy have a minority government) but it is exactly the kind of attitude that is destroying this country.  So shut your mouth the next time you want to insult most of this country case no one wants to hear it   - ohh and just so we are all on the same page my IQ is 164 and I support the liberals   so go suck it

As noted, this is a call on behalf of the Conservative Party of Canada by an outside callbank.  The party will honour any request to be put on a do not contact list, but I don't know how effective this is through the telemarketer.  Perhaps an email directly to the party will solve the problem and the calls will stop.  Remember as well, that sometimes it may take a couple of weeks for the change to trickle down the system.

Hey now let's be fair. There are stupid supporters of BOTH parties. Probably in equal amounts as a percentage.
I do lean conservative myself, and I certainly enjoy finding out who these spam calls are from more when I don't have to read come-backs and name calling.
