I have just received a call from this number. The best way to get rid of these **?%%/, is to bark like a dog on the phone. I did that for other unwanted calls and they did not call back...

It appears that this outfit uses computerized dialing, probably supplied by Bell.

The way it works is, a computer keeps dialing numbers (either from a database, or in numerical sequence or randomly). If no one answers within X rings (in this case, 3) it quits and moves on to the next number.

If someone answer, the computer tries to find one of its live operators who is free at the moment, and switches the call to him/her. If none is available, the computer can either play a recorded message such as "Please hold for an important message from [whatever]", or it can just remain silent and hope that an operator will become available within a few seconds and that you'll have stayed on line.

If your number never answers for a certain period, the computer can be programmed to assume that you're on vacation or something, and shelve your number to be reactivated later.

This is very profitable for the teleharassment outfit, because its operators never waste time dialing numbers and waiting for an answer, they are soliciting full-time. Amd it doesn't cost them anything to waste YOUR time.

Bell should block this obnoxious practice, but it gets its share of the loot: one more customer for its highly profitable toll-free lines, a fee for keeping the customer's number "confidential" and at the other end, more and more normal people subscribing to caller ID in an effort to avoid this very sort of thing!

But you'll notice that most obnoxious callers get "confidential" or "unknown" numbers, which makes the caller ID feature next to useless, unless you do as I do: I assume that by getting a hidden number, the caller is telling me that I wouldn't want to talk to him. So I never answer ANY call from a number that is unknown to me. This makes a few bona fide callers unable to reach me, but it's mostly THEIR problem. Let them send me a letter or come out in the open. I'm the one who pays for my phone and it's for MY convenience.

Got a call a few minutes ago... Long well-prepared explanation on organ transplants, shortages, research... They wanted money over the phone (by card I suppose). They did not want to send documentation. I said I needed information that I could check, but they insisted on payment over the phone. I hung up. I will report this call to the Sureté du Québec.

J'ai répondu que je n'aceptais aucune sollicitation par téléphone, j'ai aussi demander d'enlever mon nom de leur liste et j'ai raccrocher. Ça fait au moins une dizaine de fois que je reçois un appel venant de ce numéro.

Je reçois un appel de ce même numéro depuis plusieurs semaines, souvent 2 fois par jour.  C'est pratiquement toujours aux même heures, environ 14 heures et 20 heures.  C'est vraiment dérangeant.

Je viens de recevoir un appel de cette personne.  Habituellement, je ne réponds pas, mais comme j'attends des nouvelles de job j'ai répondu.  La ligne était tellement mauvaise que je doute que l'appel vienne d'Ottawa, mais plutot d'un pays dont le code commence par 61 comme le dit M.  Si l'appel venait vraiment de l'Ontario, ils sauraient qu'il y a des anglophones au Quebec...

Appel fréquent.  Jamais de message sur le répondeur. Jamais personne au bout du fil.  Si je me fie au # apparaissant sur l'afficheur, ces appels pourraient provenir non pas d'Ottawa, mais d'au autre pays dont le code est 61 ou commence par 61.

svp. faites cesser ces appels inutiles.

Calling for organ donation. Somthing about children who need organs. Im not sure if they want you to agree to donate your liver or kidney over the phone, or if they just want money, because our conversation was in broken french.

But when i told her i wasnt interested, she asked "why? is there any reason?" so i said,"Oh i dont know, im just not interested." To which she replied, "your not interested in helping to save children?"
LOL ... realy anoying people though. They have been calling more than once everyday.  Their french is strange, and i would imagin they are probably calling from a 3rd world colonialized part of a countrie that happens to speak french. like some places in south africa. But one thing is for sure; It aint quebec french, and it aint from france iether. They probably want personal information for fake passports or something. Bad voodoo. They screw with the mojo.

J'ai reçu cet appel ce soir. Un homme de nationalité étrangère me raconte une histoire sur le don d'organes et qu'il pouvait m'envoyer des formulaires et si j'étais d'accord, je pouvais leur faire un don en argent pour la recherche sur les dons d'organes.  Quand je lui ai dit que je travaillais justement pour un Centre de recherche spécialisé en transplation du foie depuis plus de 25 ans, il a commencé à rire jaune... et m'a dit: Vous en connaissez sûrement plus que moi, bonsoir Madame...!  Je n'ai jamais entendu parler d'un organisme qui fait de la sollicitation pour ceci. N'embarquez pas!

I received this called tonight.  A foreign man tells a story about reserch for organ transplants.  If I am interested, he can send me documentation and if I agree, I can make a money donation.  When I told him that I work in a Research Center of Liver Transplantation for more than 25 years, he became nervous and told me that I probably know more than him about the subject and wished me goodnight!!!!  I never heard about this and I should know about it!

Same thing here. I think it's one of those phone numbers you have to call back.

J'ai recu aujourd'hui le 8 sept 2008 un appel de ce numéro et demandé qui appellait et la femme n'a jamais voulu me répondre
J'ai mentionné que j'allais poursuivre et elle a insisté malgré ma menace qu'elle allait me rappeller

J'ai également reçu un appel de ce No. pour la 1ère fois ce soir, mais je n'ai pas eu le temps de me rendre au téléphone avant que le message soit transféré à ma boite vocale. Comme plusieurs le mentionnent, il n'y avait aucun message sur ma B.V.

C'est très frustrant d'autant que j'ai fait une chute en me dirigeant vers le téléphone et que j'en récolte quelques bleus.

J'ai reçu l'appel et personne ne parle.

Nous avons décidé aujourd'hui de répondre à ce téléphone intriguant. Depuis un mois qu'il apparaît sur l'afficheur sans jamais laisser de message sur le répondeur.

Même sénario que ceux précédemment décrits : homme avec accent africain qui se présente présumément pour une organisation en lien avec les dons d'organes chez les enfants et qui insite de facon désagréable pour avoir une contribution monétaire de 20$ pour de la recherche médicale afin d'améliorer la compatibilité entre donneurs et receveurs. Arnaque de grand chemin puisque les immunosuppresseurs ou médicaments anti-rejet d'aujourd'hui sont tellement puissants que les meilleurs taux de réussite dans le domaine de la transplantation ont lieu avec des donneurs vivants non apparentés. Je suis un professionnel de la santé qui a été surpris de l'incrédulité de la mise en scène. Si cet organisme existe à Ottawa, il devrait vite faire enquêter et arrêter ces gens puisque cela nuit certainement à leur mission.

Meme chose pour moi, on appelle a chaque jour, mais jamais il n'y a de messages. J'ai hate de m'inscrire sur la liste du C.R.T.C. afin de ne plus etre dérangé de la sorte. Merci de m'avoir mis au parfum de leurs intérets...je les attends de pied ferme si je répond!

Very weird, am getting calls from 613-482-0907 and I live in PA. I do have family in 613 area code but it is not their number. Everytime I answer, there is dead air. Is someone rerouting phone bills? I did a reverse directoryand the only info I got is that 613-482 are numbers operated by GT Group Telecom at 70 Albert St. in Ottawa. I will call my company tommorow to see what they can do! Then, I will contact the proper authorities.

Une dame parlant le francais avec un fort accent a sollicité un don minimal de 20$. J'ai refusé, en disant que je ne pouvais pas pour l'instant; elle m'a demandé si je pourrais d'ici 3 semaines...Elle dit recueillir des fonds pour conserver les organes destinés aux transplantations...à ma connaissance la banque d'organes ne fait pas de sollicitation téléphonique;non?
