We need to get every Congress Critter (state and federal) to start receiving these calls so they will actually do something.

My "callerID with Ring Controller" device still works and it is great for blocking an entire area code or prefix.  They're still available but hard to find.

I get these calls every other day, the want to know how much credit card debt you have because they can lower your interest rate.  They profess to be associated to your credit card company; they ask you for your cards current interest rates, saying they can lower them.  I have experimented with them and tell them I have 2 cards one 16.9 and one 12.9% interest.  They say they can lower my rates and ask how much I owe on cards and which cards I have.  (Funny they don't know since they are calling from Credit Card Company)  I tell them one is for 9,000 and one is for 1,000.  They ask for names of cards and I tell them Citibank (a Made up card) not mine.  They then ask for the 800 number on the back of the card.  I tell them could you please hold card is upstairs.  After about 5 mins (they will only wait 6 or 7) I come back on line and tell them sorry left in my card "I'll be right back.  After about 5 more minutes I come back and apologize again stating my wife took it to the store but is just pulling in.  5 mins again.  Come back and give another excuse, my record that I have wasted of their time is 53 minutes.  I will stop wasting their time when I get up to ONE HOUR!  IF you ever get tired you can look up 800 number for Citibank and tell them. They then ask for information to confirm MY identity, and ask for secret numbers on back of card and last four digits of social security number.  TOTAL PHISHING SCAM!

Make these calls stop! I get them every day from a different state and a different number. When I tell them to stop calling they hang up. When I call back, the number says it's not a working number, but the recording is the same voice that called the first time. I want these calls to stop!

I just started a petition on the White House petitions site, We the People to get our government to do something about this. Every freakin' day they call from a new number. We have to get 150 signatures before it is published. Please sign the petition here http://wh.gov/yRLU

Love your petition.  Now, I have located the service provider for this landline, the latitude and longitude through that, and an address that is within one or two homes on a particular street.  Obviously, I'll report that to DNC.  But have you an idea of what group might actually act on this information?

I got a call from 616 216-2172 today. It was a call about my credit card-I pressed #1 to speak to a live person who identified himself (very quickly) as Albert. When I asked who/what business I was speaking to he slammed the phone down.

I am on a no call list-how are they getting my number?

Good info but the FTC will not do anything about it. I sent an email through the Whitehouse.gov complaining about the lack of action by the FTC. Within a week I always get a call from the FTC providing status on criminal action in the courts. Card Member services operates out of FL and AZ. I encourage anyone receiving these calls to use this tactic.

I get these calls all the time. To confuse the robo-dialer you can pick up the call but don't make a sound. The robot on the other side is waiting for you to say "Hello" or make a sound before it starts playing the message. Once you pick up it starts the toll with their phone company and wastes a few pennies at most. It doesn't sound like much but they are calling millions of people a day and that can add up to a lot of $$ out of their pockets and make it less lucrative for them to call people.

The other thing to do is to download a call recorder onto your smartphone. When they call, you can pick up and pretend that you are interested in their services. The sales person on the other end will eventually have to divulge enough information about their company that you can send them a certified message with a CD of the entire call and extort them out of a few thousand dollars. It's worked for me a few times because it's cheaper for them to pay up than to let it escalate to their State's Attorney General, which could cost them a lot more an jeopardize their entire operation. You have to record the call from the time the prerecorded message starts playing all the way though. You might have to answer a few of these calls before you gain enough experience to get a good recording. They might also start to recognize that you are a phisher and just take your number out of their system.

The line I like to use to get their callback number is: "Hey, my boss is calling in. I have to take this call. Can I get your number and call you back in a few minutes?"

Sorry for the long post. Good Luck. Happy Hunting!

Got one of these calls today.  Identified as Credit Card Services (or similar to that).  After pressing '1', I connected with a semi-literate 'agent'.  My first words were "I'd like you to submit my number for removal from your call database, please".  The retort was hilarious - he said "I'd like to chop off your fingers for pressing one - you can't do dat".  If only he knew or could see who he was talking to!   I'd suggest that anyone who gets these calls, go ahead and press '1', then be totally quiet.  Public service - tie up their call center.  For what it''s worth, I have no credit cards, do not owe any credit debt, and think this is the kind of scam that leads to identity theft - or worse, hounding you about supposed 'credit' rates.

Registering your number with donotcall.com  does not help.  They continue to call.  Filing a complaint does not help either.

Same as the rest of the complaints. Multiple rings, press 1, etc. One poster named Verizon as the provider of this 616-216-2172 number. If enough people complain (tens of thousands), the FTC might do something about it and get on Verizon.

Answered 616-216-2172.  It was a robo call from Card Member Services.  I hit 1 and waited while the phone rang 10-15 times.  A lady who sounded like she had marbles in her mouth answered and when I asked to be taken off the list she hung up.

The government and/or law enforcement don't care about these type of calls.  The phone numbers are spoofed which makes tracing them difficult.

One thing that might work would be if you contacted law enforcement and told them you received a call from this number threatening to kill the President, or sell you child porn, etc.  I don't condone lying to law enforcement but I'm guessing that would get some action on their part.  Some idiot using MagicJack harrassed Nancy Pelosi and they managed to track him down and arrest him...so it can be done.
