Got a call in the UK from this number - English accent, but showed the UK-US dial code and number (oops). Somewhere in MI, I gather. Trying to sell some debt reducing "service" and all I needed to do was press a button.

Just got a call from this number.  It was an automated recording saying "WalMart, Macey's, & *some store I don't remember* all have their winter displays up.  One of your friends or family members entered your name in a draw to win a vacation."  Went on to describe vacations at two different places - Punta Cana and somewhere else - and saying I won $2,600 towards vacations, etc.  Press 1 to claim my prize.

I hung up.  Then called back out of curiosity.

When I called back, I got an automated recording saying "Telephone number removal system.  To remove your number from our calling list, enter your telephone number with the area code first."  I did nothing, and after a short while it suddenly changed to dial tone.  This sounds like one of those scams that trick you into giving them permission to charge long distance to your phone.

I forgot to mention in my comment above.  It is now spring.  This makes the opening line of this recorded message a big red flag!!!

Left crazy comment about wanting me to spend my tax rebate check on their company- whatever that may be.
