Beware! These guys are total scammers. I paid $364.90 for the ACT / SAT prep course, and of course they tried charging me for the $59.95 monthly thing. I caught that and they cancelled it because they knew I could reverse the charges through my CC company. The software however takes longer to figure out that it is ineffective. It goes past the normal 90 day window that your CC company will reverse charges, and then they simply string you along promising refunds, until you give them some kind of ultimatum, when they refuse the refund request. Don't waste your time or money with these crooks, check out their BBB rating (D-)! Check out all the complaints, and disregard the straw posters claiming glorious results, they are just UPC employees trying to put on a good image.

Perhaps the company has improved its practices by listening to their customers. I had a short-lived experience as a customer, and saw nothing of a scam, or dis-honesty. My son liked how it worked by helping him with the parts of the ACT test he wanted to improve. However, in the meantime, he also started using their scholarship guide (It's part of the whole package), and came to find out the deadline to apply was in a few days, and persued that. Since he was granted the scholarship funds he found on the UPC scholarship site , he stopped studying to re-take the ACT. I called UPC and told them I was sending it back because my son was no longer going to use it to study, and wasn't even taking the ACT after all since he got into the college of his choice through a scholarship. They reversed the charges on my card when it arrived back to them, no questions asked. My trial period was past that 30 days though, but I was told before I purchased that I could use the scholarship guide and on-line classes for 90 days. Too bad he's my only, as I probably would have kept it if I had other children taking exams and lookimng to save me money by using their scholarship guide. If I had not taken their original call, and paid for the trial period, we would not have found out about that scholarship, or it's deadline, and my son just may have been in line to take the ACT again, and then I'd be probably applying for loans, and paying for more required tests. Tests that he would not have to re-take if he studied using the UPC program.

You have pasted this same quote over and over around on the internet in forums and comment threads such as this one. You are probably some contractor in India serving your dark lords both here and abroad. I hope that one day sites like this realize they are created for the REAL SCAM ARTISTS such as yourself to practice evil in the light of day.
PR Mobsters 2012-05-04 23:04:45 Telemarketer
Bottom line here... There is a whole business based on going out and posting biased or outright false information on companies and then blackmailing them to "fix" their PR problems on the web. I just read this entire thread and am convinced that UPC is a victim of some very aggressive internet "hitmen" who specialize in this darkest of arts.
Shame...

The company does not employ a person called Genielle West. You may have mistaken the company with one of a similar name.
Happy Parent 2012-02-18 02:19:22 Unknown
This company is the reason my daughter was able to get into her first choice college and recieve schloralship money. They have their own programmers and do not resell other peoples products and go above and beyond to help families to complete the entire college prep experience.
Jill 2011-12-29 05:28:23 Unknown
Now they're charging 59.95 month....contact your credit card company or bank as soon as you this charge and have it removed. They're counting on you to forget, so they can keep charging 59.95 every month for something that is FREE on the net!!!

RE: File No. EB-08-TC-6253
Dear Correspondents:
This is an official CITATION, issued pursuant to section 503(b)(5) of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended (the Act), 47 U.S.C. § 503(b)(5), for violations of the Act and the Federal Communications Commission?s rules that govern telephone solicitations and unsolicited advertisements. As explained below, you may appeal this citation. In addition, future violations of the Act or Commission?s rules in this regard may subject you and your company to monetary forfeitures.
Attached is a consumer complaint regarding a telemarketing call that your company, or an entity acting on behalf of your company, made to telephone lines that are contained in the National Do-Not-Call Registry. This complaint indicates that your company, acting under your direction, has violated the Commission?s rules regarding telephone solicitations. See 47 C.F.R. § 64.1200(c)(2).
Section 64.1200(c)(2) of the Commission?s rules generally prohibits the delivery of telephone solicitations to residential telephone numbers that are contained in the National Do-Not-Call Registry except in certain limited situations. Under the Communications Act and the Commission?s rules, a ?telephone solicitation? is ?the initiation of a telephone call or message for the purpose of encouraging the purchase or rental of, or investment in, property, goods, or services, which is transmitted to any person.? Calls made by or on behalf of tax-exempt nonprofit groups are not considered to be telephone solicitations. Similarly, calls that are made to a person who either has provided prior express invitation or permission to call or has an established business relationship with the caller are not considered to be telephone solicitations. Finally, the rules permit telephone solicitations to a consumer whose number is listed on the National Do-Not-Call Registry if that consumer has a personal relationship with the individual making the calls.
Accordingly, under the Commission?s rules, it is unlawful to deliver a telephone solicitation to a residential telephone line on the National Do-Not-Call Registry unless: (1) the call is made by or on behalf of a tax-exempt nonprofit group; (2) the call is made by a person who has a personal relationship with the called party; (3) the called party has provided signed, written consent for the call to be made; or (4) the called party has made a purchase from, or had a transaction with, the caller within the 18 months immediately preceding the call or has made an inquiry or application regarding the caller?s products or services within the three months immediately preceding the call, and the called party has not specifically asked the caller to stop all telemarketing calls.

crystal 2011-09-21 05:21:03 Unknown
well dont blame the companies that are calling, if a family member requests the information the DNC does not apply, and most people think they are on the DNC list but either did not correctly enroll or the enrollment does run out, Im not sure but I think it it expires in 2 or 3 years, believe me being a telemarketing professional myself the last person we want to talk to is a person on DNC that is mad, its costly, unproductive and irritating for the caller, so check to make sure you are actually on the DNC list as if you really were your number would be unavailable to call so if you are really that frustrated do your due dilligence
bobby 2011-09-21 05:12:32 Unknown
I tried the 30 day trial, they ask that a call is mandatory within the 30 days, i found however e-mail is more effective , my kids did not even try using it, It was a desparate attempt on my part, but they contacted me the next day gave me a return authorization # and on my next statement my account was credited
