Called my cell phone this morning and I ignored it because I don't answer calls from unknown numbers. Called my WORK phone a little bit later. I answered it because I thought it was work and immediately knew it wasn't when the caller said, "May I please speak with Anne regarding a personal matter." I said, "This is a business number so NO, you may NOT speak with anyone regarding a personal matter" and hung up.
Discover had been fraudulently taking out $150 a month from my account for "phone pay" even though I had been making online payments (so I was basically paying them twice each month). I called numerous times to get them to stop doing that and they never did stop. So, I got my bank to put a block on the "phone pay." The next month, Discover AGAIN took out $150, this time with some other code. Called my bank, they reversed the charges and put another block on Discover. My bank said that if this happens again, the only recourse would be to close my account and open a new one where they would not have access to my new account number.

After they called for days and never left a message I called and talked to them. They are Discover Card. They never leave a message. I closed my account several years ago, so I told them to remove my information from their system. Will wait and see if they continue to call.

I doubt that this is from Discover. I do not have a Discover card and never did, so why would they be calling me. I have no intention of answering a call from this number since it is obviously an illegal call. All my bills are paid and there is no reason for any collections company or anyone else calling me. I'm about 99.99% sure this is a scam. They have called 3 times in the last 30 minutes, with NO caller ID except the number. If it were legitimate, it would identify the company.

Nonstop calls from this number. It's so aggravating. But I have been online looking at careers etc. so I figured it is some kind of school.

Folks,
I?ve finally succeeded in putting a stop to phone calls from this phone number. First, I can confirm 100% that it is Discover Card who is generating all these robocalls. Second, I can happily report that these robocalls can be stopped quickly and easily (at least if you get the same rep that I got). The first part of the plan I set out to follow was to try to get any and all addresses relating to Discover Card?s corporate office, and then send a cease-and-desist letter to each one. If that didn?t work, I was going to ?up the ante? by getting the letter notarized and sending it via certified mail with return receipt. If that didn?t work, then I was going to contact both my State Attorney General and ?the feds?. Well, I didn?t have to do all that work. I called the number listed on my Discover billing statement (800-347-2683) and asked the lady rep what the address was that I could write to in order to get robocalls stopped. She said she might be able to help me with this herself. So I told her what the phone number was. She immediately admitted that this phone number was Discover?s, she never even mentioned the issue of my owing them money, and she proceeded right to the stage of getting the calls stopped. It took very little time, and she announced that there wouldn?t be any more calls from that number. It?s been over a week, and I haven?t gotten a single call since. So for the moment, it appears that I have a victory.

To "Old Grouch": You wrote, "Discover Card service folks said they do not own or use this number, and have not tried to call me." You're honestly relaying what you were told, but why do you trust Discover to be truthful? You must be believing Discover is ethical in order to simply take them at their word. As you can see from the post I did recently today, Discover is NOT ethical, as they committed fraud against me. Instead of postulating that they're innocent, postulate that they're underhanded, and then ask yourself what you'd expect them to say. Would you honestly expect them to admit that they're behind these annoying calls? No. To the contrary, you'd expect them to deny it. We can't let operations like this pull the wool over our eyes.

It would make sense that this is Discover Card. I used to be in great financial standing and had a Discover card. Uncontrollable circumstances put me in financial limbo, and Discover canceled my card (but not the balance due, of course). When I finally got the money I was waiting for (for over 2 years), I called them and said I could now give them some money and I wanted to reactivate my card so I once again would have a credit card to use for travel or on-line purchases. I offered them 1/3 of my balance, and the lady said a certain round number just under 1/3 would be enough. When I called days later to confirm payment receipt and get my card reactivated, the guy said they would do so if I authorized them to get auto-pay (from my checking account) of the minimum due each month. I said "fine". When I called back still later to confirm that my card was usable, they said it wasn't, and never would be. So I assumed that "the deal was off". But they didn't. They fraudulently took over $400 from me. My bank recently put a block to the auto-payments for all my old cards. Then for the 1st time since the "agreement" phone call, Discover contacted me to find out why their most recent auto-attempt at getting some money from me failed. So I spelled it out for them: FRAUD. About then, these phone calls started. I never answered, because I don't answer calls from unfamiliar area codes, in case it's from a spammer or telemarketer, because I don't want them to know that it's a "good" and "live" number, because that might get me embedded in their call list instead of eventually removed from it. Now that I'm pretty sure these calls are from Discover, I'm going after them. I'm contacting my State Attorney General, and also the Feds (FTC or FCC), to see what they can do. I will also send Discover a cease-and-desist letter, letting them know that from now on, every time they call me, I will charge them $100, and then sue them for it. (I'm serious; someone has already done this for another harasser, and he won.)

They may claim to be Discover, but are not. I have had a card for nearly 40 years, no problems. Discover Card service folks said they do not own or use this number, and have not tried to call me.
This is a scam, pure and simple.
Standard response (stated on many threads here) Do not answer. And never give out any info to anyone who calls you, not even your dog's name. Callers can say anything, trying to get card numbers, etc.
More than a couple of calls? File a complaint with the FCC/FTC. One complaint won't do much, but if hundreds of folks file, then they will act.

Have received dozens of these phone calls over the last two weeks. I never answer a number I don't recognize. They have never left a message but the frequency is increasing. Whoever suggested a harassment suite, I'm in.

Calls several times a day. I let it go to voice mail, but they never leave a message. It's getting quite annoying! This usually happens when I'm at work, too, which is quite annoying.

Unless you missed a payment what they are doing is trying to sign you up for automatic payments. If you talk and haggle with them, they will sometimes put a credit on your account. Last 2 times, I got $50 off my balance.

Same story as everyone else. I have a Discover but no missed payments or debt so why the heck are they calling? Called my cell phone about 3-5 times a day with no one on the other line. Smartphones nowaday have an automatic rejection feature that's lovely. It automatically send calls in your blocklist to voicemail without ringing your phone. My phone happens to be a Samsung S3 but I'm sure all smartphone have this feature.

I have already received 6 calls from this number today on my cell phone as well as 8 calls yesterday. No one is there if I answer. I do not have a Discover card so I don't understand why they are harassing me.

These people ring my phone at least 8 times a day. The FUNNY? part is that they are NOT looking for ME. I have told them that they would be reported to the Attorney General of my state if they did not stop--but I need an actual address for them. They start calling as early as they can in the morning and stop as late as possible at night. I believe I've caught them ONCE making a call AFTER hours--late at night. The people making these calls need to find a job that doesn't harass totally innocent people-in other words--they need to get a LIFE!

Contact Discover to do that.

It's Discover Card. It's really funny reading posts here! "I'm on the Don't Call list," "I'm filing a class action lawsuit for harassment," etc. If you have an account with them--they have your consent to call you.they may call as many times as they want within reasonable daily hours. If you people want them to stop calling--pay your friggin' bills!
