Got a call 3/8 at 20:12, hung up when voice mail picked up. I am assuming this call is wrong number or total scam since I have had this phone number for nearly 10 years and my credit is clean as a whistle.

Call numerous times a day. I don't answer and don't owe anything. But, I am considering paying a seriously painful visit to their offices and there CEO to explain my opinions about there harrasement to not only my family but many others as well. In the meantime I will continue to log there calls for the soon to come lawsuit that will target them hard. Class action sounds pretty good to me.

they started to call last year. don't know why i don't own on any cards or loan. well wait i do own on one loan that was forged. sallie mae i think they are trying to tag there name to this along with another collection agency that also calls i notice sents i settled last year on a credit card that i'm paying for that they had there name on it also. but this agency never send anything to me. they started calling around 8:00am and will not stop until 9:00pm when there cut off time is. but this company along with the other is finding out that i turned on my fax machine so it rings twice and the fax machine states it high pitch sounds hope they go deaf for this :).

I also see on caller i.d. that they use anywhere from one to four different numbers. what ever you do don't settle anything with these people if that is what they are.

Dear Portfolio Recovery --
I think you ought to know that every number you call from is being forwarded to my cellphone, which I have set to hang up on automatically when it is. The only thing more satisfying would be if I could get an app that sends a loud crashing sound into your headsets when it does. The debt you continue to attempt to call me about is years beyond of the SOL in my state, so I feel no obligation to speak to you or even attempt to tell you to go f*** yourselves.
Sincerely, Me

Send them a certified cease and desist with signature requested.  Tell them that they and any and all associated or affiliated companies are to cease all telephone contact with you.  This leaves the usps mail as an open avenue for communications.  In this same letter demand complete written validationn of the debt with the Original owner of the debt and all pertinent info,  as well as their right to claim and collect in your state. Demand a copy of any existing contract that may exist.  Request a copy of the history of the alleged account/debt as well as a record of all payments or activity including the last and final action on the account.
Do not accept a single sheet of paper in the form of a bill from them.  It is not legal validation and is unacceptable as proof of the debt.   It makes it difficult for them to not follow the laws when they must communicate in writing.   If they cannot provide this information,  the debt is uncollectable and they will most likely not even respond to your request.  They have 5 days to send this information in writing via usps.  PRA will send you a single sheet...a bill hoping to bluff you into paying.   You have 30 days to dispute their claim based upon the lack of validation and probably that is will be time barred under your states statute of limitations.  Keep an eye on your credit reports and at the end of the year make sure that they did not send a 1099 to the IRS.  These skunks will do this.   If they do,  dispute the 1099 with the IRS and then PRA will have to prove and justify it to the IRS (which they can't do on an unvalidated or out of SOL alleged debt)   They are not hard to beat at this game since they rarely have any validation at all and would be unable to prove their own hat size.  This company,  in my opnion,  is a belly crawling National disgrace...

These scumbags are 3rd party, out of sol debt buyers.  They will buy a dump truck load of debts for pennies that were made prior to the Civil War and try to get any sucker to pay off an inflated,  ridiculous amount,  knowing full well that they are Time barred by the Statute of Limitations in All states.  They tried to collect an inflated amount from me for an alleged  mastercard debt that supposedly was in my name.  Address was no where that I had ever lived.   They would not accept that when I told them. They hounded my family from early in the morning until 8:59 at night,  7 days a week.  I finally sent them a Certified with signature requested letter to cease and desist all telephone calls from them as well as any associated or affiliated company of theirs.  I requested written validation of the debt to include the "full monty"  of proof including all information on the Original Owner of the debt,  payment records and the last and final payment or activity on the account,  etc,  etc.  This alleged debt was created in 1998 and had passed through 2 other collectors before being sold to PRA.  These Jerks sent me a single blue sheet of paper that amounted to nothing more than a bill from them and a threat to continue charging daily interest until paid.
Since this did not constitute Validation of the alleged debt by the original owner or PRA's right to claim and collect,  no proof of an existing signed contract as requested,   I Disputed the alleged debt and PRA's right to claim and collect.  Additionally,  since I did have legal counciling,  I advised them that in addition to disputing their claim,  that the alleged debt would be regarded and defended as Time Barred by the Statute of Limitations in my state,  should it become necessary.   PRA went away, and never responded to my dispute and request for written validation.  The B*****ds like to send 1099s to the IRS and I knew this so I kept my eyes open for that,  plus checked my credit reports regularly.  This company is not fit to be in business.  I like their motto.   "We give collections a good name"    Bullfrog...on what planet..  I have not debt and have been debt free many years.   That has been a couple of years ago but if they ever call me again,  I am ready and waiting for the sorry scum suckers...

First there was the usual waiting while it connected to their person after I answered the phone. When someone came on, they had our correct last name, but a totally incorrect first name, so I told them they had the wrong number. They apologized and hung up.

I was working in the oil fields here in Arkansas.  I was young at the time.  I was only 22 years old when I got the job.  A good friend, well.. someone I thought was my good friend at the time, got me the job.  I was 22 years old and my first year working their (I won't name the Oil Company) I was bringing home $5,300.00 PER MONTH!  Yeah, and no.. I'm not exaggerating one bit.  I even still have some of my old pay-stubs to prove it.  Now, of course, I was working some of the craziest hours like you wouldn't even believe.  In fact, there were weeks where I would work a total of 90 hours a week!  The longest week I ever pulled.. or worked.. was a 112 hour week.. and anything over 40 hours is time and a half pay.  So, yeah.. I was rolling in money. Literally!

My first year there, I brought home a total income of $71,181.49 - and that was AFTER taxes.  Well, long story short here.. my friend of mine who was a certified and seasoned BMW mechanic had a 2004 BMW E36 M3 Coupe.  It had EVERY option that you can get on it from the factory.. not to mention all the engine performance aftermarket add-ons that he had installed himself on the car.  It had the factory engine, but the internals of the engine were all BMW high-performance racing parts.  It was only a 3.2 I-6 (inline 6 cylinder) which was a very durable and stout engine to begin with, even from the factory.

But, it also had a Dinan V2-SQ Turbo kit; Custom 11" Crank Pulley; Tial 50mm BOV (Blow-Out Valve);

Tial 44mm Waste-gate; SP Alcohol injection Stage-1 kit; spec performance organic clutch; Siemens 72lb

injectors; 24x12x4 FMIC; 3" intercooler pipings;  s54 oil filter housing; 666 Top-mount manifold and

oil-cooler kit.  Not to mention a staggered wheel/tire setup with 18x9 aluminum BMW racing wheels up

front and 19x10.5 aluminum BMW racing wheels on the rear.

But yeah, to get to the point.. I was making so much money and didn't really have any bills except my rent and my monthly payment on my 2005 Chevy Silverado, that I went ahead and purchased the car from my buddy as a toy to drive and play with on the very few days I had off from work, which didn't come often.

I got so many tickets in that car. In fact, I got so many points on my driving record because of that car, that the D.M.V. here in the state I live in, actually sent me a "points warning" letter in the mail.  It was at that point I decided to try and sell the car.  Well, before I could sell the car.. I got laid-off from the oil fields.. which was the worst feeling I have ever experienced in my life.  I hadn't had that car 6 months and now I'm suddenly laid-off and have no way to pay the monthly payment for the BMW.  So, as I was saying.. I put an ad in the local paper and even put it up on Ebay to try and sell it.  But, the a***oles at the finance company, who were so nice and willing to loan me the 17k to buy the car... wouldn't give me more than one single month to come up with that months payment.  I told them there was no way I could make that payment PLUS make my truck payment.. with being laid-off from work.  It just wasn't possible.  So, within 2 weeks of telling them this.. they sent a freaking repossession crew to my house at 3 or 4 in the morning and repossessed the car without even notifying me!!

Sorry for making the story so long.. but I know that these people at "Portfolio Recovery" were hired by the finance company that gave me the loan for the BMW and they've now been calling my house for the past 4 years on a non-stop basis.  I mean, literally.. I get at LEAST 5 to 8 calls per week.

But, what they don't know is.. is they keep harassing me, I can actually file harassment charges against them.  Why?  Well, its simple.  My father gave 34+ years of his life to this state AND city that I live in.. as a Judge.  He's recently retired as of January 2012.. but anyhow, he informed me that here in this state, there is actually a 'statute of limitations' on how long these people can call and harass you about things like this.. and if they keep doing it after the statute of limitations has kicked in? Then yea, I can actually file charges against THEM and even sue them.. if I want to take it that far.

But anyhow, yeah.. they're a bunch of dicks.  You know, if they would have worked with me and given me more time to find another job and or come up with a months payment, then I wouldn't be so pissed off about this entire situation.  I mean, I had a PERFECT credit score until they repossessed the BMW.  I had a credit score in this low 700's and after they hit me with that repossession of the BMW, that killed my credit score.  That repossession actually brought my credit score all the way down to a 620!  Which, still isn't all that bad.. but these days, in order to get any kind of good loans with low financing charges and interest rates, you have to have a credit score that's in the low to mid 700's or higher.

But anyhow, I still owe the finance company like 15k.. but I know they sold the car in an auction and got 90% of their money back.. so, basically, in a nutshell? Yeah, I'm not paying them their money, period.  They can call me all they want.. but yeah, it AIN'T happening, PERIOD!  Capeche?!?

Prank Call
It's nothing personal. They don't sit there dialing your number. It is all automated, the numbers are pre-programmed into the robo caller. All those area codes from all over the USA are actually dialed  out of their sad little shop in Norfolk Virginia, where a bunch of sad people who need a paycheck sit in a big room with earphones and wait for somebody to pick up.

It is an extortion scam, although it is a legal one. Best bet, just never answer, make no contact, as long as they are permitted by the best government money can buy to try to get their hands on your bank info, and claim you owe them an amount about a hundred times what they actually paid for a line on a printout from Citibank or whatever, they will keep calling. If they can't verify the debt, can't prove it's yours, and if it's past the statute of limitations in your state on unsecured debt, there is not anything they can do, without your cooperation. So don't cooperate.

Imagine, if not one single person talked to them over the course of a week, they would soon go out of business.

Research tells me (I could be wrong) that debt collectors can call any day between 8:00 AM and 9:00 PM YOUR LOCAL TIME. The last call I received from this number was at 8:36 AM (which would be 5:36 AM Covina CA time). This only convinces me that these calls are robo calls, made by a computer which is programmed to cal you between 8 AM and 9 PM YOUR LOCAL TIME (either that, or someone was awake in Covina at 5:36 AM and made a call)

Once again, this number calls me on my google voice. If I really had a debt, they would call my cell, for which I have had the same phone number for more than 4 years. Let them call and call and call-no one would answer, because I set it not to ring my actual cell number, and any call they make goes straight to the spam folder on google voice.
