Hi all,

Call just came in from this number and I found this thread.

Let me address a few items.

1. The number calling you. Forget reporting the number to any do not call list. There are so many voip services out there, it will do nothing against the spammers. Many times these are spoofed numbers.

2. DO NOT answer calls from numbers you do not recognize. In many cases, there are what is called verification bots. Big Data is a term you may or may not be familiar with. Data companies, credit companies, government agencies, on and on, periodically update their data. By answering the call, you are verifying your number to the software calling you. That is why sometimes you answer the call and there is no one there. It's just verifying your number. If you don't answer the call, it cannot do that. Of course if the call goes to voicemail, they verify it, so disable your mobile voicemail.

3. Fight back against big data. Get off the grid. How? Easy, start by going to Google and getting a FREE google phone number. Use this everywhere and update all of your credit cards with this number. The google number can be forwarded to any number you choose [i.e. your mobile] for a seamless solution. Then once a month, go to google and change the google number. Do the same with free email addresses. Get a P.O. Box for mail. Get your life back and get out of the data matrix.

This is something you can do to control your lives. To just complain about it is doing nothing about it. Fight back.

I receive calls from (626) 544-5626 twice a day on my cell phone...no one answers when I pick up. I went to the Do Not Call website is down, and I was not able to report this phone for due to government issue with the budget.

The CALLERID for these SCAM Artists is CARD SERVICES.   Definitely a BOGUS company !!

Please file a COMPLAINT on them at:
http://www.fcc.gov/complaints

Eventually CARD SERVICES will end up on an INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING TV show like: 60 MINUTES.
p.s.s .  60 MINUTES had an excellent expose on Medical Compounding centers !   Another SCAM !

p.s.s.s.
One time an ISLAMIC DOCTOR contacted me because HE knew I had a COMPUTER background.
His laptop WEBCAM was pointed at HIM and I was behind his LAPTOP and therefore OFF CAMERA.
He told me that he had a VIRUS on his computer.   I got a HEADACHE and apologized that I did not have access to a DB that would have info on removing the computer virus.

I no sooner than opened my mouth and the supposed VIRUS dropped off his computer !!!
It actually was a HUMAN ATTACKER and NOT a VIRUS !!!

Remember: COMPUTERS are DUMBER than PEOPLE.

WATCH OUT FOR IDENTITY THIEVEs !!!   They are EVERYWHERE these days.

As reported in the AARP Bulletin, the people (creatures) employed as telemarketers by the "card services" scammers are mainly drug addicts trying to cheat people in order to pay for their disgusting habit. These scammers target the elderly and the gullible, in an attempt to fool them into revealing their credit card number. When the scammers are successful in gaining that number the unsuspecting victims will suffer severe financial losses. It is important to make others, especially these 2 vulnerable groups aware of the scam before they are taken advantage of!

Sounds like Rachel and her friends are back. I don't answer when Caller ID shows Credit Cards or a V followed by lots of digits. These people will never give up and block them is imposable as they change numbers every coffee break.

First, don't answer calls that you don't recognize.  Then, research the number and report these types of calls to the FCC at www.fcc.gov/complaints - that's the best bet for getting these people to stop calling, and it only takes a minute.

The caller ID read, CARD SERVICES.  The message was obviously recorded and had begun playing as soon as my answering machine picked up.  It began, " . . . as it pertains to the stimulus."  Is our old friend (?) Rachel back again?

Just got a call from these people. I just created a new contact named "DNA" followed by a number on my cellphone attached to this number. Whenever I see a call from anyone I specified as a "DNA1", "DNA2", and so on, I simply don't answer it! I may end up filling my cellphone contact list over time, so I simply recycle the ones I get fewer calls from, leaving me space to enter my important contacts. I also don't answer calls from numbers I do not recognize, figuring that they will leave me a message if it's important enough ...

That's funny.

I used to get telemarketing calls for water softeners.  I let them go through their "speel" and then told them I do not have running water!  Response:  Oh. Hang up.

Although it may still make us feel a bit better just to do it, the air horn tricks & such don't work, b/c they are ready for it with noise dampening headsets.  Best thing is to just not answer, block as many of their numbers as you can-- if you run out of block number allowance, add it to your contact list & assign NO ring tone.  This will not stop them but at least you don't have to hear it.  They never leave msg.s.  You know who they are.

This call came in about 6:00 pm, Feb 26 2013.  ID'd on phone screen as Card Services.  They are such bloody nuisances. I didn't answer, never do.  The number was attributed to El Monte CA.  Is that the outfit we all called Rachel?

Got a phone call offering to help me lower my out-of-pocket prescription drug costs. I have discovered that my only weapon I have against these folks is their time, as they ignore my requests to be taken off their list.

So I got someone to talk to me, they asked me about my out of pocket drug costs (made up a number) and they asked if I was on a fixed income, to which I told them yes (also made up). Then they asked what drugs were particularly costly. Told them I needed to go get the bottles and I'd be right back (yet again, made up). I did get them to stay on hold for nearly 15 minutes before they hung up. :-)

I encourage anyone else reading this to do the same! It's a great way to fight back.

The telco's cannot do anything to prevent these calls. The only telco that can do anything is the one the scammer is using to make his calls out. Your local telephone company had their ability to police these situations removed when the new privacy laws came into place. It is now illegal for a telco to trace or look up information regarding numbers without a warrant from a local judge.. As a telco employee i need to reiterate that we cannot  be a policing agent or we ourselves can be held accountable for harrassment of the scammers and trust me.. they win their court cases. The only people who can really help you are the members of your local, state ( provincial ), and federal governments.. They are the people who make the laws and they are the ones who have the authority to make your police uphold those laws.

Robo-call about lowering credit card rates. Pressed 1 to speak to a rep. Asked guy to take me off his list. He hung up. Called the number back, computer message gives you the option to opt out of future calls. Pressed the number to opt out. I have done this daily for 2 weeks. I continue to report the number to the do not call registry and yet, I still receive my daily call from 626-544-5526
