Just got a call from this guy, claiming to be a lawyer from the IRS, claiming I'm being sued as the result of an audit. Very persistent, very threatening. Hung up on him and he called back.

I've lost a dog and received a call last night from a man named Jack calling from 626-763-0484.  In the message he referred to himself as Jack and asked if I had found dog and to call 281-763-0484.  I called that number and it said Pet Rescue please hold while we connect you to a representative and it hung up.

They have called several times about Windows.  They've called twice at 5:00 AM.  This morning my husband, who has worked in the computer software industry for many years, played along with them.  He finally asked the guy where he was calling from and he said California.  He then asked the guy what time it was where he was and he said 2:00 in the afternoon.  This would mean he is overseas somewhere.  My husband then asked them for a phone no. saying he would call them back.  He then told the guy that if he called again he would report them and their phone no. to law enforcement.

I received the call early in the morning... I didn't answer this time.  We have been receiving calls for over 3 years.  Most of the time, if I do not recognize the number, I don't answer.  A year ago a woman told me "they" recognized problems with my computer.  I explained I didn't have a computer.  It doesn't seem to matter... they keep calling every so often.

A friend of mine received a call 5 years ago.  My first comment was, "you didn't give them any info... did you."  She isn't computer savvy, so I was concerned.  I told her to call the police RCMP; she would not.  I called instead, asked if they had heard anything about it.  Nope, they had no idea.  Had no clue who I could call.

I suspect that a lot of people have been burned since these people keep at it.  They seem to section off the phone books and go down the list, when they reach the end, it is time to call every one again, and again.  I can not believe that the public isn't getting periodic warnings of this scam.  A couple years ago I heard a small blip... nothing since.  Nothing has deterred these people.    My friend is receiving these calls still.  It doesn't matter if you tell them to take your name off the list, or if you are and IT, of if you are using an entirely different program.  They call, and they call day and night!

You have to remember that all they do is start dialing numbers. They don't have to have a list or anything. They don't need to know your number.

Just received my second call from Mike Lee (likely phony)  this evening.  when I asked for his supervisor he came to the phone and said he is calling from "windows".  to advise that my computor is vunerable to hackers.  I said I will be reporting this call and to take my name from the Master list.
I also said Windows does not phone customers but gives advice online.

It was definately a call centre and the man had a heavy East Indian accent.

I just received a call from this heavily accented fellow named Frank "representing" Windows Servicing.  And he knew my correct name.   He was calling from California and I am in Canada.  Oh boy.   Said his company name was Ask Remote Experts.  His accent was so strong that I had to ask him to spell the company name.  Frank said my computer was showing them errors and wanted to know if it took more than 10 seconds for my screen to open when I started up my computer.  He was very insistent that he needed to fix something on my computer.  I told him to send me an e-mail and that I don't do anything over the phone because of so many SCAMS.  I just tried to call the number back and got recording:  "We are sorry but this number has been disconnected or is no longer in service."  Well, how did "Frank" just use this phone to call me?  The scary part was that he was polite and patient and kept repeating his message and it was ALMOST believable because he kept using my correct name.  I hope no one gets their computer damaged by this person.  Thank you.

No one at the other end when I answered. From what others are saying here, it looks like the standard windows support scam.

Prank Call
accented guy called claiming that my Windows computer was was apparently showing to "them" was connecting with bad files on the internet (he should know).

He told me to press the keyboard Windows and R keys and tell him what I saw on my computer.

That's when I told him that I saw a "scam", had no Windows computers in the house and had a bullet proof firewall... at which he hung up.

Hard to imagine anyone getting taken in with this crap but sadly there must be vulnerable people out there who get taken in.

I suggest everyone else who gets this call report it wherever you can.

Same deal - guy with a heavy accent (named 'Brian') called claiming to represent Microsoft and mentioning my computer is having issues.  The call quaity was terrble, and after basically hanging up on him, I called back for fun, and the number was disconnected.

Like many of you have said, it's obviously a scam.

Answering machine had background noise from what sounded like a call centre. Call came in 7pm on Tues. I called them back today. Automated message says the number has been disconnected.
If these companies can get their numbers set up so we can't call them why can't we have the same feature on our private lines?
