A look at business licensing shows http://www.ilsos.gov/corporatellc/CorporateLlcController and their active Name is "Stoneleigh Services" Their BBB report http://www.bbb.org/chicago/business-reviews/c ... ard-il-88364971 shows no alternate names or current business licensing. On their website "The foundation of Stoneleigh Recovery Associates collection services is an advanced, fully redundant computer network protected by real-time, anti-virus spyware and IDS/IPS systems." That raises particularly abusive and exploitative questions involving predatory use of non-disclosure calls to relatives, friends, and others that include the elderly, vulnerable, and uninformed.

Being in a hurry to "get it resolved and over" plays straight into the fraudulent collector's clammy hands. Did you seek validation? Is the debt held by the creditor or a junk debt buyer? Do you know the collector can be trusted? Do you know what your money is buying? Did you see any other part of this thread?

Being smart with your money means that you don't throw it at anyone who snarls your way and makes demands and tries to deceive you. Question, verify, question again, and never reward a lawbreaker.

Obviously a 10% sale off a full balance from something a junk debt buyer paid less than 05 percent to chase is no bargain. The real error here was in trying to negotiate before reaching a position of strength. Arguing unemployment, injury, illness, and other woes is arguing *from weakness*, precisely the way these thug collectors like it.

The thing to do first is demand validation right after that required dunning letter comes, and notify the agency how and when *not* to make contact. It's silly to haggle before you even know if the goons have the "paper" and the right to collect. All bets are off if your rights are violated, say like with veiled threats of litigation and other "consequences" which are never coming.

Looks like Kamali here thought someone at 800Notes could wave a wand and stop one company's phone calls to a total stranger. At least the thread hasn't seen anyone copying this foolish behavior in subsequent years.

I was trying to figure out if settling my debt with these people would be in my best interest.  I legitimately owe the debt, the settlement is for the same amount as the credit card company. I just want to make sure I don't pay off the 1800 then get letters saying I owe the rest.  I could wait out the 4 years instead.  So between Sears and Sprint, those are the only two bad credit  hits, I'd like to get it resolved and over.

these people started business in 2007. I question their address, based on my Google search. I suspect they are conducting  illegal practices. I received letters from them about debt in Illinois. I have never lived nor conducted biz in Illinois. I think that Class-Action Lawsuit is in order here. Stay tuned...

Yes, you were in the business indeed.  It is interesting that you tortured me out of your company by removing me from my roll in your IT department - forcing me to become a 'bill collector - a position from which you then lied about my intentions to cause damage to your network and not only caused me to become unemployed - but also laid upon me the heavy burden of not getting any unemployment.  You really rocked my world Earl, and it eventually added to the pile of problems that cost me my marriage.  It's interesting that you use the phrase - God bless these criminals... really?

I want to tell you something Earl - you are a tool... a very bad tool - that was used by the Lord to crush me to the point of where I had no where else to turn, except to Him.  I heard that you also lost your marriage, along with all your riches.  To move from the 'castle' to the bungalow must have been tough - perhaps God gave you some time to reflect on how evil you really were.

Bottom line?  I am now a Christian - and I've found that all of these things that have happened to me in my life are nothing by character builders as He prepares me for... ?  I want you to know that there is no way that I ever would have committed a white collar crime to strike back at you - never.  I've reflected on my life and now understand every bad thing that has ever happened to me - a very clever plan the Lord has I'll tell you!  :)

You are forgiven Earl - by me.  Whatever God decides in the matter is His business.

So thank you Earl... for being so evil and cruel to me.  I guess we all get what we deserve in the end.

In retrospect - I've looked at all the people in the past that have attacked me in one way or another and it's not pretty.  Don't mess with a rock solid Christian...  God's vengeance is upon any who do.  Agree?

I was a little nervous after reading some of the previous comments, but I am happy to say my experience was good.  Spoke with two representatives and both were very polite and were willing to work with me. Donald Raines and his associate are excellent. If you can, ask for them.

You can't disappear from debt get real.  This company Stoneleigh is fake and are trying to collect on 20 year old accounts that don't exist.  Please, when you work, move or open up a utility bill it is public record.  This fake company knows this and is praying on innocent people.  All credit card companies report you to a credit bureau the minute you open up an account, you can't escape it.  That is why Stoneleigh Company is a fraud, it doesn't show up on your credit report.

Not in twelve states it's not... http://www.dmlp.org/legal-guide/recording-phone-calls-and-conversations.
The twelve states listed there require all party consent.  Illinois, where this phone number supposedly comes from, is one of these 12 states.

Unfortunately, it IS legal to record a telephone call as long as one of the parties is aware of it. They don't have to tell you about it at any point if they don't want to. The only reason they do is to intimidate you.

First of all, it is against the law for any 3rd party collection company to contact you more than once a day. If he called you back, then he broken that collection law and should have action taken against him.  If they talk to you one time in that day... even if for a minute and you hang up, they can not call your number anymore that day.  Also, there has been a new law put into place stating that a collection company can not call a phone number more than twice a day even if you do not answer, and they have to be timed at least two hours apart.  Check your state 3rd party collection rules, for some states rules say that you may not even be contacted more than one time a week or called at work, and they must stop calling if you request them to do so.  In some states 3rd party collection agencies are not even allowed to call neighbors or even relatives.  Just thought you might want to know this information.  Good luck

A Vanessa called my cell phone from this number and was looking for me (only said my first name).  When I asked what she wanted with her, Vanessa said she had "personal business" to discuss with her.  I revealed it was I she wanted and then told me that my HSBC credit card account has been delinquent and that she's been trying to contact me since March 14, also saying she got my cell number from my number on file (yeah, right!).  When I said I didn't have an account with them, she accused me to refusing to pay and said that I opened the account in 2007.  I told her that I was too young in 2007 to have a credit card and that finally stopped her.  I told her then that she had the wrong person by my name.  She quietly agreed and then thanked me...she ought to have apologized.

It's got to be a scam.  I don't have an account with them, and I don't know how they got my cell phone number.  This was the first time I received a call from this number.  It was a good thing she backed down because I was about to call the police and report her for harassment and for a phishing scam.

I've received numerous calls from this number on my Google Voice account. They do NOT leave a message and when I authorize the call, they hang up. It's rather annoying. They also do not identify themselves. I'm wondering how they got my Google Voice number, actually since it's not one I give out for personal business and every business entity that I contract with gets my personal number, not the throwaway Google Voice number that is listed on my company website. I smell a scam.

He stated and outrageous debt amount that is not correct, had no record of any past payments that were made, wanted to incur interest on top of balance owed. I fell this is considered harassment to myself along with my parents, I don't deserve this harassment nor do my parents.

@iCollect2011 - yes, you have access to this information, and have legal avenues to pursue debt collection.  The 'digging,' as you put it, has limits, according to FDCPA.  People who know and leverage FDCPA usually shut guys like you down after one validation letter, because it's not worth your trouble to aggressively pursue.  The legal avenues you have at your disposal are just not effective, which is why collectors such as yourself skirt the rules and prey upon unsuspecting consumers.  If you know how the game is played, your attempts to collect debt fizzle out within 45-60 days.

I just started getting calls also from this collection agency... first time!
For what I've seen..I have a long way to go with them, but they seem to be phone bullies and want their money any way they can get it. I understand if you have a debt..then you should work something out
And  if you know the law of credit debts... then use it and fight with in your rights.
I was told after 7 years.. the debt should be close..this debt is about 15yrs. old.
It was a credit card debt that sold to collection agency and been passed over to collection agency for a few years.

Any one have good info on how to fight this or know what other rights I have to deal with Stoneliegh Recovery Co.

Woman called and demanded payment and I offered a settlement amount of approx 1/2 of the total and she scoffed at me and said the "creditor" would never accept this. She gave me an amount of ten percent off and "told" me with threats that I was to either pay it or face serious consequences. I asked if she was threatening me and she didn't answer me straight and asked if I was going to pay what she quoted and when I told her that I was not employed and my husband is disabled with a broken neck she still would not negotiate and I said that was all I could do, and the conversation was abruptly ended by her with her telling me I was going to face serious consequences.

Unfortunately, the folks at SRA buy what they call unpaid debt from outfits like GE Money Bank. I am personally dealing with idiots calling me, not listening, I've told them to stop contacting me (six weeks ago at least), yet I've had two phone calls today. One from an "unknown" number that I stupidly answered. Some fellow named "Dominic" wanted to talk about a "business related issue." Yeah, right. These third-party folks are idiots. In my case, I've had to deal with GE Money Bank shuffling my "debt" (which was paid IN FULL, by the way), from one agency to another, because agency (a) can't send me verification of the debt, so they get a cease-and-desist letter. Then agency (b) tries. Same thing. Now SRA is at it. Between them and GE Money Bank, there isn't a brain to be had in the whole bunch. Not to mention they're dishonest, outright rude and abusive on the phone, and won't provide verification. Again. It's a racket designed to steal money from people who have already made payments, or who declared bankruptcy and had their debt reduced or eliminated.

Luckily after I called backed after numerous hang ups on their end, calls coming from a cell phone, I got a helpful person. But, the previous day a very nasty, rude, obnoxious, last but not least arrogant male left me a childish answer on my machine. Unfortunately this place was give FALSE and incomplete info about my account that I closed out quite awhile back. Tsk, Tsk,
Some people should NOT be allowed on a phone for any reason, especially an obnoxious male who has nothing better to do than to harass folks. Didn't work on me very well, now did it Stoneleigh?
