A Richard Lewis left a threatening message which said both there is a claim against me and a settlement for me, for which time is running out and that I must contact him urgently, said he was calling from 'CBD' whatever that is, but the number was a Vancouver, BC number- 604 661-7955, this was the only sight that seemed relevant when I tried to find out about this nonsense call.

Marcia & Richard Lewis both called on two seperate occasions and left a message saying that is is very important that I contact them immediately regarding some personal backround information that was given to them.This is a collection company. BEWARE of your rights. The Federal Trade Commision which protects consumers against the illegal practices of collection companies and also the credit card companies has a law written to protect you is The Fair Debt Collection Practice Act. Creditors are not allowed to threaten you, be abusive ,volgure or call your place of employment after you have told them not too. If they do call your place of employment after you have told them then get the name of the person you spoke to, what company they are calling from, also what day and time you spoke to them. You can then report them to your local Attorney Generals office and the Federeal Trade Commision.They can receive fines for every time they call you. They CAN call once an hour between the hours of 9am and 8 pm. they can call neighbors or freinds and family but CANNOT discuss to any one what the matter is about. BEWARE OF YOUR RIGHTS!!!!!!!! You can negotiate with these agencies as well. Industry averages for negotiated debt today is between 30 and 42 cents on the dollar.

Nope.

This is a ruse commonly used by outlaw collection agencies, claiming to have "sent" documentation. If they had, you would have received it.

Call their bluff and send them this letter DEMANDING validation of the debt they are calling about. Send it VIA certified mail and request a return receipt:

Today's Date

Your Name
Your Address

Collector's Name
Collector's Address

VIA CERTIFIED MAIL

Dear {insert name of collector or company},

I am writing in response to your (letter or phone call) dated {insert date}, (copy enclosed) because I do not believe I owe what you say I owe.

This is the first I've heard from you, or any other company on this matter therefore, in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Section 809(b): Validating Debts:

(b) If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period described in subsection (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.

I respectfully request that you provide me with the following information:

(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) Provide a verification or copy of any judgment (if applicable);
(4) Proof that you are licensed to collect debts in (insert name of your state).

Be advised that I am fully aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. For instance, I know that:

because I have disputed this debt in writing within 30 days of receipt of your dunning notice, you must obtain verification of the debt or a copy of the judgment against me and mail these items to me at your expense;
you cannot add interest or fees except those allowed by the original contract or state law.

you do not have to respond to this dispute but if you do, any attempt to collect this debt without validating it, violates the FDCPA;
Also be advised that I am keeping very accurate records of all correspondence from you and your company including recording all phone calls and I will not hesitate to report violations of the law to my State Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.

I have disputed this debt; therefore, until validated you know your information concerning this debt is inaccurate. Thus, if you have already reported this debt to any credit-reporting agency (CRA) or Credit Bureau (CB) then, you must immediately inform them of my dispute with this debt. Reporting information that you know to be inaccurate or failing to report information correctly violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act § 1681s-2. Should you pursue a judgment without validating this debt, I will inform the judge and request the case be dismissed based on your failure to comply with the FDCPA.

Finally, if you do not own this debt, I demand that you immediately send a copy of this dispute letter to the original creditor so they are also aware of my dispute with this debt.

Jane Warner called my home several times and my grandmothers saying that I was in serious trouble and didn't realize how much trouble I was in and that it was very important that I call her. Told my grandmother that the Federal Courts were after me had my grandmother all upset.  When I called them they represented themselves as a lawyers office, and could settle this account for a lesser sum. We googles them and found out what dreads of the earth they really are.  How they sleep at night is beyond me.
Don't get sucked in or be scared by their tactics.

Scum collector ( debt buyer) buying debt and trying to make a profit on it is illegal. The credit card company who sold the debt should be charged also with fraud also. Just report them to your local Attorney General's office and they will take care of it. Buying debt has been going on for about 5 years now. No more (normal type collection agencies. The lender gets half of what you owe then the illegal debt buyer tries to pose as an attorney and get you to pay the full amount or just some settlement. You won't get recipts because it is a scam. Go to www.bankruptcy-law.freeadvice.com. You wont belive what you read on the first page.

Listen they will tell you that you need to move forward or they will take action, but THEY WON'T.  DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR ACCOUT NUMBER OR CREDIT CARD NUMBER. Loud bark and no bite.  All they want is a payment so they get extra money on their paychecks.  You can make them take payments (because they want money).  Only give them cashier checks or money orders.  You can also talk them down on the money you owe, (but it my hurt your credit.) They work for people who own your account find out who and call them.  Remember they are trained to tell you that paying them is the only thing you can do and that it will save you money.  All that will happen if you don?t pay is that another agency will take your account and Weinberg, Stanley & Associates wont get paid.
Here are a few things to do if you talk to them.
1) Never say you are not going to pay
2) Tell them not to call you or anyone you know.
3) Ask for a letter of validation for the account
4) Do not give them anymore information?..I.E ?where you work, phone numbers, Accounts?.

They are very aggressive and rude so beware and do not let them back you into a corner.

Received call, no one on the line, retrieved # from my caller Id. I called the # and was told that I had dialed a #

They called my neighbor (who I've talked to like twice in 8 years), gave him my phone # and had him call me to tell me there is something very important they need to talk to me about. This guy is like almost 90 and had major heart surgery and was paniced that something was really wrong. Total scum these people are.
