This is not a scam. I have made these calls. AARP Roadside renewal program. I see basic account information and renewal date. You get a $5 discount by renewing over the phone.

This actually is AARP Roadside assistance and they are trying to get people to renew by phone. I called AARP Roadside Assistance and they confirmed that they have hired telemarketers to try to get renewals via phone so they don't have to mail out the renewals.

I got this call with a hang up yesterday but today they first asked for my husband. When I said he wasn't home they asked for Mrs. They said they were AARP and since our renewal was coming up soon, etc, etc. In the interest of saving paper they wanted me to renew over the phone at a $5 discount. They seemed to know our information, so if they are not AARP then they have somehow accessed the data. Very convincing call making me think it could actually be AARP. Anyway, I told them I wasn't giving credit card info over the phone and they said okay, thank you and gave me a number to call. I didn't write it down.

Called 7/30 - no message. Caller ID shows West Chicago. After checking here, I blocked number. Thanks to all that post here.

On July 24, at 8 pm I was told call was from AARP. Said AARP was trying to eliminate snail mail and wanted me to sign-up for AARP Road Assistance Plan and wanted me to give them my credit card number. I didn't do it and told them good-night.

the call is from "unknown". lthey called last week and again today (1/19). i hit speaker and do not reply when a voice comes on. i hope i'm as big a nuisance as they are and they will go away. (good luck with that).

a voice asked to speak to me but i ignored this call as i do other unsolicited calls.
