They may be a telemarketer acting for a charity. If so you can ask them to not call again. If they do on behalf of the same "charity" they can be reported. No legitimate police agency solicits money over the phone.

do not call does not apply to charitable orgs.  They do not have to scrub their call list against it

The reason everyone is speaking to different charities is because the calls are all coming from the same company.  They have contracts with the charities and recycle your numbers.  You could get a call from this number twice in a day, but it'll be a different charity.  They recycle the numbers year after year, and as stated they don't need to pay attention to the DNC list.

If you want your number removed from their call list, call one of their offices. If they do not remove your number, keep calling them until they do. The callers are supposed to code you as a "do not call" number if you ask, but rarely do.

Called on 8-23-11 at 7:53 pm.  Man asked for my husband by first name only.  When I asked who was calling he said ATI.  I asked in regards to what and he asked for my husband by first name again.  I asked three times who he was and what it was in regards to.  He was very rude and would only respond by asking for my husband by his first name only.  I finally said, "I'll ask you one last time what this is regarding before I hang up."  Then I hung up.  Caller ID said DuPage County F...I live in Cook.

My wife got a call from this number also.  There was a long pause and they said they were from the Du page co. police. They kept calling my wife Mike and she sort of yelled at them and hung up.  I don't think it was really the police. We called the # back and got no answer. Then we looked it up on the internet and found all these complaints from the same #.

Caller ID says its the DuPage County Fairgrounds. As it appears from previous posts this is a solicitation from a charity.  Unfortunately charities, political parties, and telephone surveys are exempt from the do not call list since they are not providing goods or services.

They are in fact a charitable organization. that are associated with police unions. not the government agencies. You can actually contact the Illinois state police and they will take you off of their call list.
dont like their tactics.

OK: is this legit? Last night I was TRYING to get an early sleep as I had a headache. At 8:15PM CT on 8/4/11 a hang up from Du Page County. Well, we're in CROOK (I mean Cook!) I hope someone finds out if this is a legal Company or not. DNC & Unlisted don't matter anymore I guess.

No message. Caller ID showed "Dupage County Fire"....this time

The same number has come up showing Dupage County Sheriff or Police Assn

They never leave a message. Tried to call back...always rings busy.. At least 10 calls to my number with no message.

They should be reported to the Illinois States Attorney office for telephone harassment. If I made that many calls to a particular number and never left a message, you can be sure the police would be knocking at my door.

I am on the DNC list

Asking for donation for kids.
With the caller ID saying DuPage county something one would think it is form Dupage Count yoffice.
What is with that?
I ask him to take my name off list and he said it was not on a list and kept talking.
Was rude . So i said well then just stop talking and hang up and don't call me again.
I think he did..

Oh - and because they are calling for a nonprofit organization, they are EXEMPT from following any do not call list rules and regulations.  So, it does NOT matter if you are on the DNC list or not.  They don't have to consult the list.

The police calling is the Police Athletic League - it is a legit (and worthwhile) charity.  I regularly donate to them, and I did also hang up after they called once with the "please hold - transferring to an attendant..." But I realized who it was.

You can google the association & will find a TON of information on them.   But definitely a call center that needs to have a better format for reaching potential donors in the community!!

Another hangup tonight from this number . . I've been getting almost daily calls from solicitors using my first name in a very familiar manner, some for "the police officers" or "the sheriff's office," and also for "the Vietnam Vets."   When I was a statehouse reporter several years ago, I looked into a number of these scams . . the one that claims to be "the Vietnam Vets" was, at that time, based out of Iowa but under investigation for fraudulent practices by Attorneys General in several states, including Wisconsin.  My dad, who is 93 years old and lives in the Peoria area, also has been plagued with these calls.  We are both on the "do not call" list and have been for years, but that doesn't stop these folks who pose as a legitimate nonprofit charity.  Maybe our own Attorney General here in Illinois should be asked to look into this harassment scam, if she has not already.

I received a robocall from this number seeking donations to the Illinois Vietnam veterans.  The woman was persistent but polite and when I indicated that I wouldn't donate without knowing how much money went to the vets (whcih she said she doesn't know) she politely ended the call.

Received a call from 630.749.1661 just few minutes ago saying that they are from a police association asking donation if I prefer $12 or $25.  I am kind of skeptical and so I answered just sent me anything via mail and have a look at it.  This guy on the other line said: "you sound so skeptical" and did say a lot of words but didn't bother to understand it. He was so quick and turned the phone in to a lady who I believe getting information.  The lady confirmed my address for some reason, they knew it.   If I do recall it, the same person called our phone # 6 or 3 mos. ago.  Where do I have to report this issue?  Should I report it to the nearest police district? Please advise.

Thanks,
Brenda

I'm experiencing the same issues as everyone reports above.  Numerous calls per day for days on end.  I answer and nothing - dead.  Obviously all of the efforts that others have tried in the past don't seem to work (aka BBB / Atty Gen office as someone mentioned above).

My temporary solution is just to answer and hang up.  Don't even bother with hello.  Hopefully SOMEDAY the jerk will get the hint.  I'm wondering though if we might be able to call our phone company and invoke some kind of "block" function that indicates that I don't want to receive phone calls from this number.  With all of the functionality that we have these days it would seem that this would be a feature that every phone company should offer!  Not too hopeful but I may try that avenue someday when I have hours to kill on the phone!

Good luck all!

The holidays are coming and now we am bombarded with this calls again.  Just got another one from this number.  Picked it up and they hung up.  I made a list of the numbers that seem to be bogus and/or nuisance calls, left it by the kitchen phone, and told the family not to pick them up!

Received a call this morning (12-27-10) / 630-749-1661. They identified themselves as
the Police looking for a donation. They wanted $20.00. My wife hanged up on them. We received a call from the same people a couple of times before. Told them to not call us again!
