Consumer alert: Debt reduction companies
Beware of ?too good to be true offers?

Ottawa, January 10, 2012 ? The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) today issued a Consumer Alert on debt reduction companies. FCAC is warning Canadians: Be very cautious about companies that claim they can negotiate a deal with your creditors so that you will have to pay only part of your debt. This process is often called ?debt reduction,? ?debt settlement,? ?debt relief? or ?debt negotiation.?

Consumers who are looking for information on dealing with their debt will find tips on getting out of debt on FCAC's website at fcac.gc.ca

scam from illinois established number

SPAM:  left automated message saying a friend or family member had entered my name into a contest at the vacation kiosk at either Sears, Zellers, Walmart or The Bay and lo & behold I had won an all inclusive trip for 4 ppl to Cancun if I would just press one now.  Right...ya got a bridge for sale too?

Ottawa area as well. Machine caught this number and the message stated that I was entered in a draw by a friend for 1600 points towards a cancun vacation. press 1 for more info press 3 to pass.

I just got a call from them too!! Wtf

Am in Ottawa ON, just got a call from 630-869-6891. Didn't bother to answer it, from the messages above, it was another damn con-man trying to steal $$$ from anyone press a number to unknowningly aurthorize the charge.

Same here, press one to recv a $100 WalMart gift card

The phone rang about 4-5 times, while I was trying to find it to pu. When I answered there was no one there.When I called back, it said to press one to recv a $100 WalMart gift card. I did not. Not interested

I just got a call also. They did not leave a message. Called back and it said "Press 1 now to receive a free $100.00 gift card." It's an automated system that then tells you after that to only Press 1 again if you A) Have a job and B) have attachments to a financial institution such as a credit or debit card. I didn't push 1 the second time but it seems pretty much like spam to me.

They keep calling my phone as well and not leaving messages.

Phone spammer.  Made mistake of picking up phone as I thought it might be one of the rare times someone was trying to get hold of me. Message claiming to be calling from Canadian tire.

I don't like these people call me. I would like to know who they are.
