Amen Brother.....you are so right....never, never EVER answer a number you don't recognize, let it go to your answering machine and if it is legit, they will leave a message. If not, well....you know the rest. Another thing you can do is purchase a Panasonic phone that will let you block up to 250 numbers. The cost is around $135.00 or so....well worth every penny and they are great phones. Also, they have some pretty good stand alone call blockers available on Amazon .com for around $60.00 that will block up to 1,200 numbers. Once the creeps call and they are blocked a number of times you wont be bothered by them any longer.

I called Mircosoft yesterday for a software issue..(of course the call is transferred to INDIA somewhere) I had a hell of a time understand this idiot.  They had my phone # (home) So now, I am getting swamped by all these scammers...no one is on the other end after I say hello 3 times ....various numbers show up...including this one....or they are listed as "unknown" or "unavailable"  My policy now... I just pick up the receiver & slam it back down!  If I don't recognize the # I don't answer it.  Makes me wonder if those #$!&*$!@ in eastern Indians are selling my phone # over there!

I first became aware of it in the beginning of the year, he was calling people from Craigslist and saying that he found their dog and that their dog was severely injured after being hit by a car. He would say that he took the dog to the vet but that they won't get the dog back unless they wire him money.
He made up a "company" that he would tell people he worked for.. a search and rescue company that would go out and look for your pet. He would try to get your personal information and said that it was only like $100... whoever they are, they even went as far as to go online to forums and pretend to be people who were satisfied customers ...but in every forum, the person who ran the page would put a *note* by their reviews saying that they came from a suspicious email address that was possibly them trying to scam people.

I got a call from 630 668- 9832 today.  A man with an Indian accent said he was from tech support and that I had an account with them. I asked who they were and he said A C E Tech Support and was I near my computer. I said I didn't know them and hung up. Later I got a very similar call from the 630 893-9893 number.

It looks like this is an active scammers number again.  Many calls lately from this number, although I never answer.  When it goes to voice mail you can hear some noise in the background, then they hang up.  Usually this will go on for a few days, for a few weeks, then stops.  Do yourself a favor... Simply NEVER, NEVER answer your phone if you don't recognize the caller.  If the call is legit, they will leave a message and you can call back.  When they don't leave a message typically it's a scam.  Also, NEVER, NEVER engage in conversation with them, even picking up your phone tells their auto-dial computer that it's a good number. Not only will they keep trying, but your number will be shared with thousands of other scammers.

Here I am trying to have a happy birthday and it's really difficult with a scam company waking me up in the middle of the night!

That number calls me, and then it beeps and says goodbye. I think they are actually recording you as you answer in an effort to get a name and/or to assure it's still a good number.

Anthony, I love it!!!! I am definitely going to do this. What I did the last time (Microsoft Issue) was talk to him with the same Indian accent and followed his instructions (so he thought) until he asked what I saw on the screen. I told him...It's blue, I can do nothing, you broke my computer, let me talk to your boss. He hung up. HAHAHAHA!!

Rules for handling these scam calls:

1. Don't answer if you don't recognize the number (your parents taught you not to speak to strangers, right?). You won't hurt their feelings ? they have no feelings; they just want your money, credit cards, personal info.  In other words they want to ruin your life.
2. Don't call them back - don't assume they'll put you on their "do not call" list. They won't even if they say they will.
3. Don't complain about the number of times they call if you don't use your own (your service's) Block Caller list.
4. Be proactive and responsible by using your own protection. Assume nothing.
5. Get on your phone service's Blocked Caller list - if they don't have one, get one that does. If there's a fee, it's still worth using it for your peace of mind.
6. Don't think the government's Do Not Call list is going to handle it - they won't.
7. Google the number.
8. Add the number to your personal Block Caller list.
9. Get on with your life ? you don't need to answer every phone call.

Yes, you can stop the calls!  I received one, sometimes up to three calls a day from Canadian Pharmacy using this and a dozen other numbers. for over 3 years until I finally fought back! Here's the secret: Their computer makes tens of thousands of calls a day, routed through different numbers all over the country, only connecting you to a salesperson when you say "hello".  At the first sign of negativity, they simply hang up. It costs them nothing! You will never get off the automated call list until you order something.

So DO IT! Be sure to ask lots of questions, change your mind several times, haggle on price. Then give them your address, email and credit card number (all fake!). The first time I kept the woman on the phone for 45 minutes. After she ran the fake card number (always use the correct first 2 digits), she desperately tried to call me 10 times a day for 3 days. Finally I answered and told her the credit card was canceled and gave her another. 3 more days of calling with no answer and it all stopped - for 3 months!!

I repeated the process, this time saying I had no credit card and was in the middle of switching bank accounts. After an hour on the phone fielding my stupid repeat questions and placing a $200 order, he sent instructions (to a fake email) on how to pre-pay using Western Union. He called 10 times a day for a week to figure out why they hadn't gotten the money before it all stopped again. 3 months later, here they come again. No biggie. I'm starting to enjoy this!

They make their money by selling to one of every 10,000 calls. It takes only a tiny percentage of fake orders to waste enough time for their entire marketing strategy to go bust. The salespeople get frustrated, make no commissions and quit. The company spends $1000 training another replacement. Their phone banks are stalled taking orders that only cost them money. Try it, its fun!

Put them out of business - REPOST THIS FOR EVERY NUMBER THEY USE

I had the lady with an Indian accent tell me about a federal grant of $7800 I was eligible for (red flag #1).She said all I needed to do was to go to my closest western union (red flag #2) with any form of ID, and a check for $200 (red flag 3). I asked if I could use my police badge as a form of ID.  The line went dead.

What a scam - and had the nerve to call me back immediately from another number after I hung up on him the first time! By the way - he was Filipino, not Indian. Beware! Very rude and antagonistic!

I recieved a call from that number. they claimed to be from Microsoft (in a strong east Indian accent)
long story short, I refused to buy their software and as they threatened my computer would not start up 2 hrs. later
I contacted the real Microsoft and was told IF... Microsoft had contacted me (something they never do)
any problems I had would have been fixed free of charge to Canadian Customers.
The 'problem' these people claimed I had was my computer had been hacked and was infecting other computers and as my operating system was older than 2 yrs. I no longer had microsofts protection, if I did not buy the protection package they would be forced to shut my computer down

Messages from Alex Ferguson or Sam Bishop -- all Indian/Middle Eastern accents and never leave a message about the nature of the call, just that because of the sensitivity of the matter they are not allowed and that if I don't return their call, there will be legal action and they will call my work and home. Someone please catch these creeps. They call 4 times back to back and from different numbers each time -- then on the last call they leave the message... It is roughly the same time every day too...
