Just got a call from this number, with no area code...how is that done?

I answered, but didn't talk with this man.

I've gotten 2 calls from this number, again no area code.  No message left the first time, this time no one spoke they just hung up.  I just won't attempt to answer it again - since they're not leaving a message, they're not wasting my minutes if I don't answer.

Caller ID of 9852314, no area code shows, keeps calling. I have answered before and declined the scam and they keep calling. Three times already today. I will not answer. Can somebody block this number from all of us?

just a quick update...after my post from september 24- i have not received any more calls from these people!!!! i suggest calmly telling them that you know they are lying to you and trying to scam you, and if they call you ever again that you will report them to the authorities. i dont really know who to report them to, but telling them this seems to scare them, and i have not gotten a single call since. i hope this helps the rest of you, good luck

I don't think this is a collection agency...not from what everyone else has said...

So like all of you I got the dreaded 985-2314 call today the man had an asian accent and said he was from some home mortgage company. The first funny thing is he had the wrong name so I of course knew right away something was up. After I instructed the idiot he had the wrong number he went on to say he could lower my interest rate on my mortgage I just busted out laughing and straight up called him an idiot. He then said he was just trying to help me I told him obviously not you called for somebody else I instructed you that this was the wrong number that should have been the end of this conversation(dropped a few f bombs/made him sound like a complete jack a**)the idiot then went on to say all I had to say was NO to end the call so I said "NO" do you think he let me go "NO" just kept saying he could lower my interest that's right about when I said have a good day sir "click". Is anyone stupid enough to fall for this?

I just got the same type of call at my office and they keep calling and calling.  I'm concerned how they got my name and what other information they may have about me.  Sounds like an Indian accent.

me too, same number, refuse to answer, but they are very persistent. Let me know what questions to ask to catch this idot!

I recently moved to SF from Portland Oregon. and I keept getting these calls from 985-2314. I assumed my phone was just being touchy and not showing the area code for some reason.
I keep get multi calls and after every single time they call. An Unavaliable call follws with no one on the line either...I get the call at lease 3 times from both the number and the unavaliable the follows directly after it. It's gettin pretty annoying....Hopefully next time i'll be lucky enough to get a person...

everyone is saying they will turn them in?  to who?  I have no problem turning them in they are harasssing me.  The number calls all day and no one is there.

got another call...this was a different man with an accent, he told me his name was Alex Smith(yeah,right!) from the Credit Rebuild Dept. of Homeowners credit Rebuild Services. he told me one of my banks sent them my info.(whatever! he used my maiden name, and i have been married for over 2 years!) he told me i could reach him at 668-365-4929, i googled this number, and found another one of these reporting pages. i told him i believed that these phone calls are a scam and that i did not want to be called again, and if anyone called me again i would be calling the authorities. he promptly told me he would not call and he would make sure no one else called me either, we'll see. i got as much info from him as i could think to ask, but it obviously is all a BIG FAT LIE!!! if i get called again, i am going to write an email to my local news station(they have a guy who helps consumers get to the bottom of things like this) and maybe these horrible people will be caught and punished. dont fall for this, dont give them any info, and warn your friends and family!

I've been getting calls from this number as well -- no area code, never a message. Mentioned it to my husband who picked up the next call and without even answering the phone said for them to stop calling.

Called again twice this morning, so i googled it and found this bulletin board. Now i WANT to answer and give whoever it is an earful. I like the idea of reporting them. If I get any info about who they may be, i will post again.

i have been getting calls from 985-2314, too! no area code. the first time i answered he waited to long to answer, so i said to please stop calling this number, thank you and i hung up. when i answered the second time, i got a man with an indian accent(not native american) who told me that a credit bureau had sent him my credit report because my credit is bad and he can help me improve it. my credit is fine and i know this due to the reports i get every 4 months and i told him this. he also tried to tell me that he could help me with my mortgage, i dont have one. i dont even have a car loan at this time! i told him i didnt understand why he was calling me since i didnt request any info or anything. he got angry with me when i told him i didnt want his help, i didnt know who he was and i had never heard of his company. i told him not to call again. this was a couple of days ago. he called again 3 times over the weekend, and he called 3 times within 5 minutes this morning before 10 o'clock. i am going to try to get some info from him the next time he calls. hopefully if we all keep posting we can figure out who this guy is and report him.

Drop a few "F" Bombs and act crazy. They'll get the message.

I have been getting calls from 985-2314, no area code. they are persistent! just this morning i got 3 calls within 5 minutes. they never leave a message. they're calling my cell phone and i'm not sure how the hell they got my number but my number is on the national do not call list so maybe i'll just report them.

Yup... same here. Been getting the calls while at work, so I haven't been able to pick up. Just 985-2314. I'll give 'em an earful next time they do it.

this number has been calling my cell phone for 2 days; caller id does not show an area code, just 985-2314. I was able to answer today and a man who could barely speak english advised he was contacting me in reference to my home mortgage loan which i was currently in risk of defaulting on. I do not own a home, nor have i ever owned a home. I told him so and told him to stop calling me. He then offered me a great rate on home morgage rates and told me he could help me get the home of my dreams. I told him that they were harassing me (over 20 calls in less than 24 hours) and that I was turning him in. He hung up on me.

We have received several calls on my wifes cell phone (which used to be mine)from this number. These calls may originate overseas. Callers have strong middle eastern accents. They say they have been given our name by the credit bureau and that they can repair our credit. We don't have any credit problems and have an excellent credit score. They are very persistant and ask a lot of questions. I have called the number back to see who answers and either got no anwer(last attempt) or got a message that the nuber was no longer in service.
