To those who sent "Cease and Desist" letters:  If you sent it, not naming phone contact, but just paper contact, they can still call you. You have to name both clearly to have it go into effect.
DNCR: This does not apply to them because you have a contract with them. If you do not and you do call back... that opens the door for them to be able to call you. That is for anyone, that calls and leaves a message, any business, telemarketer, anything.... DO NOT CALL BACK. They then are bound to not call you according to the law.  A CREDIT CARD IS A CONTRACT. They can and will call you, call you as many times as they want, 5 or 6 times is a limit per day in some areas.  They want the $$$. Some people can not afford bankruptcy.  If you find yourself on Social Security, they can not attach with a judgement any of these funds if this is your only and sole income. Just do not deposit anything else, even that "Christmas $" you got from someone. That shows as extra $$ in your account and they can attach what ever amount they want.  CALL for information for the state you live to find out the particulars in your area.
Good Luck.

I miss the days when REAL people used to bug me. I'd tell them that the person they are requesting will be right here, then put the phone down. Every couple of minutes I'd pick it up again and tell them: "sorry, he's on his way. Just another minute." Sometimes I'd lay the phone right next to a speaker and blast some annoying music. Ahh . . . the good old days!!!

Calls all during day and night, from different area codes. I'm fairly certain its Capital One hounding my daughter, a fulltime college student who is away at school. They stalk the kids to open the credit, knowing they are students with no job/income. Credit is granted to them quicker than to adults with jobs, credit history and ability to pay.Go figure??????

Hi it's Linda - traveling the states and calling you this time from New York with some great opportunities from Capital One. Won't you call me back TODAY? Either way, I'll be calling you back tomorrow from who knows where?

Caller ID "Spoofing" is when someone deliberately alters information about where they are calling from so that false information appears on someone elses' caller ID device.

For example, if your real Caller ID information is Jovialias Burns Hosenpfepper, phone number 555-555-5555, but you change your information so that something else appears, this could be considered Caller ID Spoofing.

March 10, 2010 The House Commerce Committee (HCC) amended and approved HR 1258 [LOC | WW], the "Truth In Caller ID Act Of 2010", by voice vote. See, amendment in the nature of a substitute [4 pages in PDF].

The bill does not require truth in caller ID information. Callers would remain free to block caller ID information. Callers would remain free to transmit false caller ID information, provided it is not with intent to defraud. And, law enforcement and intelligence agencies would remain free to do whatever they choose with caller ID information.

You can see the entire amendment using the link below. Capitol One, according to the amendment, is breaking the law.

This is one of the many Capitol One phone numbers.  They call on average once every 45 minutes every day from 8:05 am to 8:50 pm.  They are so persistent that if you block a number they just use another number to call from or they change their caller ID.  Some come through as Capitol One, while some come through as restricted.  So far in December they used 11 different numbers.  Now in 4 days of January they have added 4 more numbers. And now they use SIGNET BANK-VA (800)955-6600.  When you call back it's Capitol One.  I'm looking into a harassment solution now.

people... when you sign the credit card agreement, you give these people the right to call you!  the "DO NOT CALL" registry does not apply to them.

just save the number with the bank name, change the ring tone on your cell phone and DO NOT answer these calls.

I didn't realize this was another capital 1 number. One day "Linda" called me every hour and a half practically on the dot. Today was the first day with this number. This one looked like it could be someone. I'm glad I found this site before I called it. They call and call and call, but when you talk to them they have no solution for you even if you happen to be unemployed.

I sent Capital One a cease and desist letter  over 2 months ago and the STILL continue to call. Isn't this against the law to continue to call? They are relentless, where were they when we call them to renegotiate the interest rates....Sorry we can't!!! Block their calls with ATT Smart Limits.

I switched to a different cell phone number and Capital One called my new number over and over again from different numbers even though I'm not a customer. I emailed webinfo@capitalone.com and nicely explained to them what was going on and gave them my number. I didn't expect them to do anything but they emailed me back saying my number is off the list and I haven't received a call since!!!!

Linda really doesn't quit. Started getting calls from this number a few days ago, accidentally picked up once because the area code is a neighboring one, unlike usually where its from bumblefuck. Thankfully I only got through the linda part and hung up. her number is now BLOCKED .. thanks Verizon
