Similar story as above.  Made the mistake of scheduling the appointment.  They arrived.  Set-up.  "You needa new chimney liner or else the whole place will fall apart.  Gonna cost $1800....pay cash or it will cost more, etc. etc.".  I asked them to leave.

If they call you, stay away.

I said "well I don't want to waist your time have a great day" and the guy left just now 7/17/2012 12:56 pm hahahaha what a bunch of... well it's not really a scam but they do have a gimmick and they want to do more than clean your chimney they want to sell you a new chimney liner and cap.

Two Long Island men were arrested Thursday and charged with larceny in connection with chimney cleaning and repairs they did in New Canaan.

Adam Joyce, 26, and his brother Travis Joyce, 22, both of Babylon, NY, turned themselves in at the New Canaan police department shortly before 7 a.m. after being told there was a warrant for their arrest.

The arrests stemmed from an article in the Stamford Advocate about the brothers' arraignment in Norwalk on charges that they performed $3,200 worth of unnecessary work for a 63-year-old Wilton man. An elderly Village Drive resident read the article and called New Canaan police on April 4, saying she was afraid she had been defrauded by one of the men as well. She told officers that Adam Joyce had charged her $2,800 to clean her chimney but that another chimney company which inspected his work had found numerous problems.

The Village Drive resident later contacted a Stonehenge Drive resident, who had had chimney work performed by Travis Joyce this spring. The Stonehenge Drive resident told police she paid Joyce $3,500 for work on her chimney, which another chimney company later said had been done improperly.

Adam Joyce was charged with larceny in the second degree from a person over 60, second-degree reckless endangerment, performing home improvements without a certificate of registration, failure to provide notices in sales agreements, making sales illegally without a tax permit, and performing craftsman work without a license.

Travis Joyce faces charges of larceny in the second degree, performing home improvements without a certificate of registration, failure to provide notices in sales agreements, and making sales illegally without a tax permit.

Both men were arraigned Thursday in state Superior Court in Norwalk and released on $5,000 bond. Neither man has yet entered a plea in the New Canaan cases. They plead not guilty to the Wilton charges.

I got the call yesterday, it was clearly a cold call; they told me that I was in their customer database which was not possible but once we got around the bs, I thought it sounded reasonable.  I figured the $50 cleaning offer was their marketing "foot in the door".  I really should have done my research but luckily my story ends fine.  The technician came this morning and my husband (really big guy) escorted him to the furnace.  They weren't in the phone book and I couldn't find the company on-line.  I found this forum right as he was pulling up to the door so I had enough time to put my husband on his guard.  He ended up leaving without doing anything and no cost to us.  He said that our walls looked bad and he didn't want to put his brushes inside...???  My husband said that he didn't see anything wrong and told the guy to put everything back and go.  I really don't know if this is legit or not but I'm glad that we found this site so we could at least be on guard.  Lesson learned!  The number on the caller ID was 631-393-6845 and the call back number they gave me was 877-730-5898.  BTW - I am in the national do not call registry.

The way you call people makes you chronic violators of federal law (look up TCPA and DNCL). But that's only the beginning. If someone actually permits you crooks to inspect their chimney, you will invariably recommend a very expensive repair that is unneeded, you will grossly overcharge for it, and you will slap in whatever third rate part is available. Your victims will eventually have to call a legitimate contractor to straighten out the mess you criminals have made, at considerable additional expense. So, your highly illegal marketing tactics are ONLY THE BEGINNING.

Potential victims are catching on to this filthy scam, due at least in part to site like this. The scammers realize this, so they send their shills LIKE YOU and several others (or the same crook posting under different names) to make fake posts and pretend this is a legitmate operation.

Don't answer numbers you don't recognize. If you do, NEVER to business with anyone who cold calls you EVER. That is a sure way to lose money -- and in the case of this especially toxic and property-threatening scam, A LOT of money. Who markets their "service" with cold calls these days? SCAMMERS. That's who. "El" is one of them.

These people are only trying to do their jobs. What happens is you schedule a cleaning , because you need it.....then if the sevicemen tell you what you dont want to hear, you call them names.  The bottomline here is that the homeowner sets the stage but refuses to take Responsibity.  All he wants to do is blame. If your not prepared, graciously decline.  I think its known how Chimney cos are scapegoats and people use that to take advantage. "Blame it on the Chimney guys".   Do we go online to complain when we dont like our haircut?

The only one doing the  scamming is the DNC (do not call)  "list".  So what, you think when your name comes up theyre supposed to stop, look up on some "list" that doesnt exist, after the computer ALREADY made the call?  If your name was on this "list", it wouldnt have come up in the first place.

They are telling the truth... the automated dialer and landline phone are not in sinc. THE LANDLINE ANSWERS FIRST  THE DIALER FEW SECONDS AFTER.

The only "in" they get is to CLEAN your chimney(as per your request) and if they see  you need a liner its for the benefit of you ( the homeowner) and of course, your chimney.  You re under no obligation.

I just received a call from Lysco.  The obnoxious telemarketer informed me that it was time to schedule the chimney cleaning that they perform for me annually.  When I asked her if she was a telemarketer she denied it and again claimed that they clean my chimney every year.  I proceeded to tell her that this was not true and that she was, in fact, a telemarketer and that we are on a do-not-call list Sshe told me that she'd be calling again and then hung up on me.  Definitely a scam.

You can add my name to the scammed by Lysco.
Got called today on a follow up cold call from last week. Missed that red flag.
Agreed to a estimate appointment today for next week. 10 minutes later got a call back from Lysco Contract 631-393-6843 saying there was a crew 20 minutes away and a appointment was canceled and they could come out now. I thought/wondered , as I was waiting for them to show up, how they knew my address since I never gave it to them. However they showed up in my driveway. Missed that red flag too..

I should have figured they where up to no good when he pulled the furnace flue pipe and they tried to convince me I needed a $1200 new liner when I knew otherwise. What he was showing me as a "dangerous crack and chimney ready to collapse" was the seam between the clay flue liners....Missed that red lag too...

But I was off my game on pain pills and got taken for "water proofing" and caps. 2 Cheap stainless caps and 1/2 a tube of calk 30 minutes later I was the only one cleaned out of $600 bucks. Supposedly the chimney didn't need cleaning after 30 years even though that was the reason for the appointment..
I had no argument even though I told them off as petty thieves..Yes,.I agreed to the "work" like they said. Unfortunately we never discussed cleaning in the verbal (sigh)  estimate because I ASSUMED. Yes I feel like a A**.

Oh, Oh, the big RED FLAG I missed was that they would "not charge sales tax if I paid in cash". Double Dumb A**.
You would think by 70 I would have seen it all by now.. I really could have used that 600 for better things than a quick education on scammery.

Never again.. in Connecticut.
