Same Indian voice as reported below. he stated sayying how I have virus and he could fix it. Started giving me instructions. I hung up but really - does anyone know how to stop this?

I have been receiving two or three phone calls a day from 631-401-1062 - a New York caller ID number. The man calling goes by the name Victor or Johnny. He speaks with a heavy Indian accent. He says he works with Microsoft or another computer company. He tries to convince you that your computer is having problems and he is going to help. DO NOT allow this person to get access to you computer - it is a SCAM!!

This Indian/Pakistani accented crook just called.  He said I have a problem with my computer.  

I told him "I don't have a computer".  He hung up.

What is more disturbing is that he knew my name.  I have an unpublished number, and I hardly ever use my landline phone.  This crook stole this information from somewhere.  I only give out my information when I buy something online.  Therefore he somehow stole this information from a retailers web site, or a software company that I have had dealings with.

Our caller ID reports that this number called us at 4:00am MST.  WTF!  Woke up one of the kids. Obviously we did not answer it... Comes across as "NEW YORK" in caller ID name. We too are on the do not call list. The list is a joke, and now they are de-regulating it in Idaho, so beware, here come the calls again. Calling ANYONE at 4am should be a prosecutable crime.

Received a call at 3:35 in the morning for my father-in-law. He passed away Feb 7th at the age of 86. He didn't have a computer or a cell phone.

Rob, thanks for sharing this story and making me laugh,!  You are SO funny.   My call was not a joking matter.  A Mideastern lady called me and threatened twice (in the same phone call) to kidnap my daughter.  My daughter was at home at the time, and we both got upset.  I called the FBI in New Orleans, and they are currently investigating.  Next time, I will do what you did.  This will be fun!

The FBI in New Orleans were very responsive.  My daughter, who was threatened to be kidnapped by the lady calling, was relieved to know that the FBI were going to work on finding out who called.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.  My condolences and prayers to Sandy's family and to you, who have  been a good friend to her.  I guess that someday we will fully understand what is meant by "suffering brings joy."  May God richly bless you, Rosie,  for being such a loving friend to Sandy.

Called at 830 this morning.  Caller ID just said NEW YORK.  Number was 631 401 1062.  I let it go to VM and no message was left, just a hangup.  I called the # back and got a recording "the number is not in service at this time."  What do they call 100,000 telemarketers on the bottom of the ocean?  A good start!

Also received a call from them this morning.  Google "your computer has problems" scam to read all about it.  

It's an identity theft scam...they try to convince you to download software that gives them complete access to your computer, including your bank accounts and credit cards.   They also send emails or you could get a popup on the screen.

My rule:  if I don't recognize the caller ID, I don't answer... then check the number here to see if it's been reported as a scam or telemarketer. If it's spam or a scam, I block the number.

Received a call from this number at 6:36 am, 631-401-1062 "Name Not Found".  No one talked when I answered, just hung up.  Most annoying at this time of day.

Woman with an Indian accent asked for me by name.  I said, "He's not here, can I take a message."  Then she got angry and told me, "Stop shouting."  She hung up.

Received a call from this number at 7:38 am.  I was rude when I answered the phone because I was asleep.  I said hell-o 3 times and asked why are you calling here so early.  Man with indian accent said, a name that was not mine and said "go back to sleep" and hung up.  Telemarketers continue to call me wanting me to turn my computer on and claim they work for Microsoft or Windows.  There has to be something the public can do to stop these calls.  If anyone can figure it out, I would be very appreciative.  It's annoying.

had me on the phone for almost 1 hr.  What am scam.  Wanted to sell me software registration!!!!!

Called this morning, said I had windows errors and I needed to turn on my computer and follow his directions.  Ended the call after that.  Foreign accent, .

My Mom got a call this morning at 7:30. She says it was a woman with an Indian accent so thick that she couldn't understand what was being said. Something about the hard drive on the computer being about to crash. My Mom finally just hung up.

Just got a phone ( land line )call from this number and a man with a strong middle eastern accent said he had important information about my computer.  He wouldn't tell me who he was and when i told him i would contact the SEC and the FTC he hung up.  but my caller ID gave me the number ( but not the name )so I am reporting it here!

this # apparently has been used often.  who is he really.  how can he be stopped.

I had the same call today at 7:38 i did not do what the indian sounding man told me to do.  it was about windows also..

i hung up after he wouldn't tell me his name and where he was.

They called us at 8:10 this Saturday morning. We let the voice mail answer it as we were heading out to attend a beloved friend's memorial service (if we hadn't been going there we would have been sleeping!) and whomever it was calling left no message. Before 9 a.m. on a Saturday-- tsk--  that's just rude. And it appears that others have been bothered at that early hour (and even earlier) as well. We ought to get on that "Do Not Call" list. Oh, wait a minute... we already ARE on the DNC list, for all the good that does!
  As long as I'm here: Please join me in wishing my dear friend Sandy-- probably one of the BEST AND MOST AMAZING people who ever lived-- a peaceful transition. She fought hard against cancer for ten years, but she passed away a week ago. I want to believe that she's found Heaven and is catching up with her dad. And please send a kind thought to her loving family-- they miss her so much. Thanks.

Just got a call from this number at 6:39 AM EST on a Saturday. I did not answer, I just let it go to the answering machine. They did not attempt to leave a message.

I tried and was not able to get the *60 to work, but I sure wished it would. It must be an extra feature through the phone company, I would use it on the credit card interest rate scammers as well. I have asked them and nearly begged, that they just quit trying to torture us, we will never fall for there ignorance...

I simply do not understand what gets these kind of people off, by calling and annoying people with there dumb a** calls at 7:00 AM. All I got was a woman of Indian accent, asking if I was Mr........ my name? I said yea, but why are you calling me at 7:00AM? Then all I got was a click and it went dead with just a dial tone. I don't get it. It must provide them with a 7:00 AM orgasm annoying another human voice.......do they think I am so stupid to believe anything they would tell me at this hour? Sorry I am not that fricken stupid...

     1(631)-401-1062 NEW YORK is all the caller ID showed..........if they are gonna call they should at least wait until we have the opportunity to say what we want.

On a day when the kids are home from school there's a good chance the kids will answer the phone.  A kid is more likely to believe the scammer and do like he asks.  

Also - the scammer is probably calling from India.  They may not know your kids don't have school today.

7 am I cannot believe it on a day the kids dont have school! what is WRONG with people!

Have you had any luck with the Fed Trade Commission, doing anything about these calls? So far they appear to have no back bone.

Just dial *60 then add that number and it will block all future calls.
