Just got this call too--claiming to want to feature local writers and give us "media coverage."  Good to know this is a scam.

I got the radio show scam too.  But it just struck me as so bogus.  I mean, I'm a very small potatoes kinda guy--who would care what I have to say?  Also, the "executive producer" (who in real life would not be the one to make a cold call to a nobody) didn't say where he got my name, so there was no reference or referral from any of my actual clients or colleagues.  I didn't play the caller long enough for him to get to how much money he wanted from me for the privilege of being on his lousy internet radio show, but I could smell it coming.  I actually was in broadcasting way back in the 20th century, so I know this ain't how it worked then--except for the scam, which is timeless.

Kathleen's update on her blog: "I emailed them through their web site and sent them a link to this blog. A few minutes later I received an email from Louis Ceparano <lou@closeuptvnews.com> saying: 'We have forwarded your blog to our legal department. You have now involved yourself in a legal matter you will be contacted shortly by our legal team'"

Thanks for sharing that, Kathleen.  Sounds like the same scammers that worked out of Florida and tried to get business owners to pony up thousands of bucks to be featured in some important-sounding TV show hosted by either Hugh Downs or Terry Bradshaw (which only aired in off-hours on cable outlets, if at all).  It's a modern variation of the old "puff sheet racket."
