Yes, cancel your credit card. Get a new card. It looks like you've been taken on a scam. At least notify your credit card company. Call the number on the back of the card, tell them what happened. Do it quicktime!

I have been getting these same phone calls for months now. They are coming in from two different phone numbers, the most common is 251-279-9505. The other is 530-845-5960. I tell them I have never received, nor do I want to receive magazines, and they usually hang up. I finally got someone to hang on the phone with me, but he told me he could not tell me any of the information I was asking for. Just yesterday, a woman called, I asked for a manager, she said she was the manager, but she couldn't give me the phone number or any information about American Readers Services and asked how I would like to pay my $699 debt. 2 weeks ago it was $299. I am someone concerned about my credit, but I obviously do not believe these people are for real - how do I make it STOP?

Just got a call from 631-604-0448, man claiming he was with a collection agency representing American Reader Services, and that he was attempting to collect money for subscriptions that were set up in August of 2009. I asked if he had a phone number I could call him back at, and he replied that it was a collection agency, that they don't take incoming calls. When I insisted that I receive a written record of the debt, he replied that such had been sent to my mailing address back in May. I never received anything from them, and never had any magazine subscriptions. They did seem to have my correct name and mailing address, but given that the "collector" was insisting that the only way to settle the debt was to pay by credit card TODAY, or the information would be given to the credit bureaus, I told him that I wasn't falling for his scam, and didn't give them any additional information

Thank you, Heather. I got a call from this scam artist as well. I was supposed to have ordered magazines and have a bill for over $1,000, which I was given the option of settling for $665. I was furious so I looked up the number, and found this site, and your posting. Obviously, I am not the only one to be targeted with this kind of a fraud.

I just got a call from these people claiming I owe 499 for a magazine subscription. I knew this wasn't true because I NEVER do magazine subscriptions. How they got some of my information is beyond me but I contacted the attorney general's office in NY. Please do the same so we can put a stop to this scam before they contact an innocent, believing young or elderly person that divulges their credit card information to these frauds.

Received a call from this number. A rude young girl said her name was Lauren. I asked why she was calling and she said I owed Verizon almost $1,000. I told her I did not belong to this organization. She then proceeded to ask me specific questions, which I did not answer. At that point she said she was repotting me to another collection agency. I said that was fine because I was reporting her to a lawyer, my husband. Then she just hung up. I called the number and a man called John Benjamin began a recorded message and his last words were, " have a blessed day!"
What a scam!!

I've been getting these phone calls for a couple of months now. They say they are a debt collections agency and are willing to settle my $1000 account for $600, but it has to be done today. Supposedly this "debt" came from a magazine subscription....are they freakin crazy? They want my bank number to settle the account. I tell them I do not give such information over the phone to people I do not call and I also wanted something in writing about this so called debt and company. They say they will send it, but I have never received anything nor did I ever receive anything about any accounts past due before going to this so called debt collection agency. They say if I don't settle the account they will report it to the credit bureaus. Funny thing is I checked my credit reports after I started receiving these phone calls and there is nothing there about an account that needs paid.....all OTHER legitimate accounts I have ever opened or pay (including utilities, vehicles payments, credit card accounts, student loans, and so forth) are there, but nothing about this so called account. I'm getting ready to call my state attorney general as soon as I submit this post.

These people have been harassing my mom for 5 years. They always say they will take her to court and she says see you there. One time they told my dad they would call every day until it was paid. He said 'ok, talk to you tomorrow,' and hung up. They didnt call back for the longest time when they called today.

Got several calls from this number. The message left by them is a recorded message from the customer service department. They leave no company name at all or any other information. I've called this number back and no one ever answers. It's probably a scam.

NCO Scam new number - 763-273-2984
This is the NCO scam taking it one step further. Cross reference it with 631-604-0448. This new 763 number claim to be the victims of the first scam trying to "apologize" but really they're identifying you to see if you were taken by the first scam and then try and get your info so they can fix it, but will hit you again if you entertain them. They say they are American publish house magazines.
Tell them to take you off their list and never call back or you will call the police immediately!
