these calls are the police my friends.  They are calling to gather information...does this person really live at this address.  its typical to get these calls as they are preparing to issue a warrant for your arrest.  This should all make sense now right....you say hello and they hang up...they just confirmed your home and are building a profile of when the calls get answered and when they do not.

Call was a robot call. It started about senior living.... I hung up and writing to all about this nonsense going around.

I just got the call 10 mins. ago.  I get calls from 930-5142 at least once a wk.  Annoying to say the least.

I called Paetec as recommended by one of the posters. They are a phone company. They are not making the calls but they couldn't have been nicer. They will email the company they lease the number to and tell them not to call you. They have had many complaints. These are robocalls. Sometimes when you call these numbers back you can get removed. But in this case all I get is a busy signal.

I have been getting calls from 631-930-5142  every day for the past few months. I am either not at
home, or when I see the number on caller ID, I do not answer.  This morning 10:30am I decided
to answer.  It turned out that it was a caller asking me to donate to the VFW (Vet. of Foreign Wars).
I asked him for the Web site so I can look at what % go to the VFW.  He said he did not know
it.  I asked him to ask his supervisor, and he said, have a nice day,and hung up. Well I will never
answer the phone from this # again, and if I can block it I will.  7/23/10

received a call from 631-930-5142 today it came up as central islip and the person on the other end was looking for money for children with diabetes. yesterday received a call from the same number, they were calling for donations to the VFW.  when i questioned the person they put someone else on the line saying they represented several organizations......you have to question the integrity of an operation like this....is it a scam????????????

this number calls 1-3 times a day and dead air or hang up when i answer...when i try to call back, always a busy signal

I get regular calls from this number - they ALWAYS hang up, even if I answer. This is VERY bad for the company that is paying these nitwits to do what is probably legitimate phone marketing work. What is the point of dialing a number over and over if you are not even going to work the dang lead????

I have learned to recognize this number as it is a local exchange and I have always jumped to grab it in the past thinking it was someone I know, one of the kids calling from the local pizza place, etc. You usually do not get local numbers pop up with telemarketing outfits. THIS number is being manned by morons, though. It is idiots like these that make it VERY hard on the professional telemarketers out there trying to make a living.

I would suggest anyone receiving calls from them and actually getting to talk to someone hang up and do NOT give these people ANY info at all. If they cannot be trusted to handle placing calls in a professional and proper manner, how the HECK are they to be trusted with your personal info for a donation, etc. no matter what the cause. Call the organization direct. Better yet, if Toys for Tots calls, next time your in ToysRUs, buy some inexpensive toys, wrap them and come holiday time, drop them off at your local police or fire department that is collecting. MANY of them do - we had a girl in our office that headed the toy drive EVERY year because she LOVED firemen. LOL! And what can be better than a firehouse full of strapping, handsome heros all cheering cause you walked in with several boxes of wrapped toys for their ToysForTots Drive? . :)

It is not your past donation record that triggers calls from Call Centers like this one (which I believe is run VERY badly - they need a new management team in that center, that is for sure) - it is your phone number, plain and simple.

Calls are done in geographical sweeps, many times by cross directories that list people according to street and zip code rather than name.

Please do NOT let this sour you on giving to charities. I regularaly give to the Disabled American Veterans, Greenpeace and the PAL. The only people that call me are Greenpeace and PAL and those calls come DIRECTLY from these organizations, not an out sourced call center (and no we are not talking over seas Tech Support outsourcing. Thats a whole nother thread. LOL!)  I get a TON of other calls from Call Centers that depending on how many donations they have managed to secure ( their quota, so to speak), that is who they will be soliciting for. ALL non profit outfits use telemarketing outfits to help them raise money and everyone who has a visiable address or phone number is targeted. While I would NOT give via these solicitations, I also know that by giving to them, it is not going to either increase or decrease my chances of being harassed by bad telemarketers.

Over the past several weeks/months we have received many call from 631-206-4954 which is identified as a Central Islip number. Finally, I called Paetec, a local phone company, at 516-394-5000 in Woodbury, Nassau County. They were reluctant to divulge any information about their "customer" but finally gave me the email address of the company who owns the phone number. It is garrettm@optonline.net. Send them a hostile email and tell them to quit calling you.

I started getting the calls on my cell number and now they are calling my home. The cell number calls happened about 4 months ago and now on my home number. I called Optimum who I use for voice, and they said within a few weeks you can block out single phone numbers. Also i get calls from a  in washington dc a few minutes before the 631# from an outfit called AICR. They too are all hangups. this is so frustrating!!

They call daily-never anyone on the line. I have advanced cancer and this is very distressing.

I will follow the advice listed above.  I get calls frequently throughout the months and I have to leave off whatever I am doing - diapers, cooking, etc, to rush to the phone and there is NO PERSON just a hang up.  Rude, obnoxious and continues to verify to bad reputation telemarketers already have.

received a call from  a woman who said  she was from the breast cancer foundation. Thanked me for all my  help , them called me a jerk and hung up.
I found the phone number in my phone. It was 631-930-5142 and came from PAETEC communications Inc  Central Islip N,Y. The time was 8:57 PM

Came home from shopping and found this number on my caller I.D. from Unknown. No message left. People...just delete, delete, delete. Never call the number back...

Answered, no one there, so I hung up.  Seems like some kind of scam.

I got a call from this number and he said he was calling from toys for tots. He was rude when I said I had nothing for him. I was upset enough to contact toys for tots directly and this was their reply:

Toys for Tots does NOT engage in telemarketing.  We believe telemarketing is an invasive method to solicit donations.  I will check on the number and do what I can to try and stop them, but since they do not work for Toys for Tots, it will be difficult.

Got a call today from the above number...no message left...just a hangup. If you ever want to make contributions to charities, just go to their website directly. Never make any contributions over the phone..in fact, use your caller ID and don't even answer these calls.

PAETEC is just the phone service provider, not who is actually calling you.... jeesh.

its not PAETEC calling, they are just the phone service provider.
