I had the same thing happen.  They called my work and wanted my bosses information.  When I asked if I could call them back the girl hung up on me.

A man want to verify my work number and ask  me to give him my fax number. He keep mumbling something when I asked who he is and why he call me.

I have received a call from this number for at least 3 of the last 4 years. It happened again this morning. Rep claimed to be calling for the Federal Contact Directory and hung up after I asked too many questions. Phillipines location others mention seems dead-on, as the caller had an accent like that of other native Tagalog speakers I have known.

Same story.  Male caller with heavy accent (could well have been Filipino) asking if I was the [job title]for the Secretary of [Department].  I said no, asked what his business was, acted obviously suspicious.  I wouldn't cooperate so he hung up.

Just received a call asking to confirm if this was the number for "...." all I said was "speaking" and they hung up.  I work for the Federal government and they have called me at work.

632-859-0400. Foreign male asked for my bosses correct title and fax number. I barely said anything and they just hung up.

Work at a government office, just got a call from this number a couple minutes ago. Female with an odd accent, asked for the director of the office by name...hung up immediately when asked what *her* name was

indian guy called wanted to know if this was my correct telephone number and and was my title still the same.  I acted like someone else and told them I didn't know and they asked me could they get the correct number and I accidently hung up on them.  I got curious when I called back the number and it said be sure you are dialing the right number that made me even more curious so I goggled the number and lo and behold what I stumbled on too the many e-mails experiencing the same thing.

We have to get the word out, I don't know what its about but know it can't be nothing good.

Received a call this morning at my work number at 7:20 local time.  I wasn't there to get it.  No message left.

On 5/19/08, I got a call from a male with an Indian accent calling from 632-859-0400.  He said he was calling from "E-commerce" to update the Federal Contact Directory.  I asked him to repeat himself and he did but stated he wanted to verify my work phone number.  When I question what the Federal Contact Directory was he hung up.

You can't return the call to 1-632-859-0400 because the number is actually +63-2-859-0400 in the Philippines. This is a phishing scam brought to you by the same jerks that flood your email account with spam... pirates and thieves wandering the outskirts of the digital empire.

Same thing.  Someone in a robotic voice/strange accent called my work phone (202-712-4414) and asked me to verify my full name, DOB, office, title (they offered the specifics). I asked where they were from - and they said something about managing a federal database with an organization called "SPI". I asked what that stood for and why they were asking and they said they'd call back another time and hung up abruptly.

this is a "directory scam." see the FTC website for more info, but long story short if you verify their info and answer your their questions you end up getting billed for a "direcotry listing"

Same as John M.  Lady w/ accent wanted to verify GSA schedules w/ retired member of firm.  Stated her name was "Ashley w/ SBI".  DO NOT give out information.  Definitely a scam.

I received a call this morning at 1030 from a man w/ a strange accent asking my name and to confirm my job title.  When he mispronounced my name, I simply countered with the question: "WHO is this ASKING?  Who are you and why do you require this information?".   He promptly thanked me for my time and bailed off the phonecall, but not before I noted the phone number.

WTF? From the log here, this has been going on for over 2 YEARS!??  Make this STOP!!!

I got a call from 632-859-0400 at 1:00pm today.  There was a lady with an accent wanting to verify my office managers contact.  When I asked what this was in regards to, she said, there company SBI is doing a survey for onother overseas company and that that company was looking for US based companies on the GSA schedule to prime contracts for them.  She wanted to verify email addresses, upon further questioning, she got uncomfortable and said, oh well never mind.

I just got a call from that number.  It rang twice..look it's ringing again.  Also federal.  I put the number in google and saw these postings.  Not going to answer.

Lady called this morning from 632-859-0400 and aske me to verify my business address.  When I tried to call back the number did not exist.  FBI catch these scammers.

I received two calls from this number, 632-859-0400, today.  Person says she is doing a government report - asks for name and company.  According to internet, there is no 632 area code in the US.  What would be the purpose of this scam?

Vhishing (phishing) attack. They try to steal your personal info.
I believe this number was already reported to authorities. The problem is - this might be a disposable Skype/Google Voice number or something like that and attackers calling you could actually be located across the ocean.

These people are contacting government agencies trying to verify legitimate federal employees in order to help facilitate lottery/sweepstakes scams.  Once they verify your information, they generally contact older citizens, using the information you verified, and convince them that they are winners of a large sum of money.  They use your information because you are a true federal employee and your employment can be verified; Once verified, this gives the scam legitimacy.  Once the target verifies you work with that agency, they are convinced that they have won the money and are willing to do whatever it takes to collect.  They are then asked to send money via Western Union or Money Gram to cover taxes, insurance or some other fee.  This money is often collected outside of the United States.  You should contact the Federal Trade Commission's Consumer Response Center at 1-877-382-4357 to report this information.

Just got a call from this number and let it go to voice mail.

Same thing happened to me yesterday (2/23/10). I'm not sure what's going on. I am a Federal Employee, too.
