Rose International is a legit recruiting firm even though they called me at 9p. I asked the rep do not call me late. He respected my request and apologized but I haven't called them back yet for an interview....

They can ask for the last four of your social but not the full social. Please do not provide your full social to anyone over the phone, unless it is for verification purposes for current accounts.

I got a call today about a job with PG&E as a project manager.  He said he was going to email me the job details with a consent letter for me to sign and send back.  I told him I would happily send back any consent letter he needed once I verified all the details of the position he was discussing.  So far, no email with details OR consent letter.  Hmmm, makes me wonder if I should just pull my resume from Monster and Dice.

The recruiters are asking for the last 4 digits of your SSN and only the month and date of birth (MM/DD) because it is required in order to submit you for the position through a job portal they use. Many companies who use contracted positions use this portal which is accessible to recruiters across the country.  A few recruiters have submitted my resume for contracted positions through this portal and there has been no identity theft as a result.  They ARE a legitimate recruiting agency.

I had my resume posted on CareerBuilder.com, I am in Indiana.  I applied to several positions advertised by Rose International, the *REAL* Rose International.  Over the course of the past three days I have been contacted by two separate individuals claiming to have a "career opportunity" in my area with Tyco (this company is also known as Tyco SimplexGrinnell, although they did not know I already knew this).  Both men who contacted me had extremely thick Indian accents (no matter), both emails stated they were Recruiters with Rose International, both stated they had a local position within my zip code (although they did not know it was within my zip code, at least not from any information gained from CareerBuilder as I only included my email address and phone number on my posted resume as well as my profile), both pasted a job description into the body of the email, both asked if I would be interested in them forwarding my resume to their "client" - both messages clearly indicated that both individuals had poor mastery of the written English language (no big deal, right? I mean, 2nd language speakers often make mistakes native speakers do not, both verbally and in print, so this did not immediately raise any red flags for me).

I responded to the first man to contact me (Naveen) stating that I would be interested.  He, within a matter of minutes, sent a response asking for my social security number, DOB, my resume, and other identifying information; I was never contacted by phone by him.  I responded to his email stating that, given the number of attempts by other people to commit fraudulent acts, I do not give out identifiable or personal information through an electronic format.  It was at this point that I realized I hadn't applied to Rose International for any open position.  I did some digging and could not find any information anywhere indicating that Tyco contracts with Rose International for placement or contracted positions.  I informed Naveen of this information, stated I would be forwarding his email communications to CareerBuilder and the Cyber Crimes Unit of the local Police Department.  He never contacted me again.  He did not send any email trying to clarify who he was, reaffirm that it was a legitimate contact effort - nothing.  Coincidentally, two days later, the *REAL* Rose International advertised positions on CareerBuilder so I submitted my resume; they reference their job placements by "Job ID" numbers in their postings and their website lists all electronic addresses as @roseIT.com - pay attention to this.

I was contacted by a second individual who indicated his name was Kapil Singh, that he was a Recruiter with Rose International, and that he had seen my profile and resume on CareerBuilder.  He stated that he thought I would be a good fit for a position that one of their "clients" currently had open.  In the body of the communication he had pasted the same job ad as the first man (Naveen) had, but had also taken the time to list the actual Job ID listed on the real Rose International's site, which made his initial contact seem more legit than the first man who had contacted me.  In the email he stated the starting date was "ASAP" and that I would need to respond right away and indicate what pay rate I wanted.  He then phoned me and left a voice message (I do not answer numbers that I don't know) stating that he would be sending a "follow-up" email inquiring as to whether or not I would be interested in the position.  I responded in the affirmative and gave my consent for him to forward my resume to his client (since he stated he already was in possession of it), and I also specified the bare minimum rate I would be willing to take for the type of position advertised.  He sent another email indicating the position was with Tyco, asking me to confirm the rate of pay I would accept, asking me to provide my criminal history information, my social security number, my DOB, my most recent employer and the month it ended...and my resume.

After receiving his 2nd email communication I immediately became suspicious as I had just gone through this with another individual.  I did not respond to this 2nd email and the man called my phone on 5 different occasions over the course of 1 evening and the following morning.  I decided to check further than what I had after the first attempt to solicit my personal information.  I checked my Resume Activity on CareerBuilder to see who had been looking at my profile.  Lancesoft India Pvt Limited had accessed my profile on 3 different occasions within the same day; the same day I had been contacted by "Kapil" who claimed he was with Rose International.  I also decided to look at the exact email extensions of individuals listed with the *REAL* Rose International and all of their extensions ended with @roseIT.com -- the man who had been continually contacting me and requesting my personal information had made contact from an email ID of @roseint.com -- THIS IS NOT THE SAME COMPANY AND THIS IS A SCAM ATTEMPT!!  I subsequently sent him a response indicating that I do not provide personal or identifiable information through electronic communications.  I also stated that I would not be submitting my resume to him as I was under the impression he was already in possession of it since he claimed to be with Rose International.  I stated that I was aware he was not part of Rose International as their email extensions were listed as @roseIT.com and not @roseint.com as indicated by the email he was contacting me from.  I further explained that I would be contacting CareerBuilder and forwarding all communication that had transpired between he and I, and that I would be contacting the Cyber Crimes Unit of my local Police Department.  Once again, all contact stopped.  He did not send any further email communication, did not call my phone, nor did he attempt to validate that he was who he said he was and a legitimate representative of Rose International.

There is NEVER a reason to disclose any identifiable information to ANYONE through an electronic exchange.  Having worked in the legal industry for over 15 years I am well aware of what NEEDS to be disclosed pre-employment.  You do not even need to submit your social security number to a staffing agency prior to any placement or prior to the need to run a criminal history check.

I was notified about a job through their agency and after 2 weeks of faxing them my personal information & me doing all their work, and not able to understand two of the people I spoke with, I advised them to shred all my information & that I would be not be taking the job. I honestly feel they are a unprofessional agency. When I would call the number I was given , I was told the person I was working with was out of the country at this time. That did not make me feel very secure. I would not suggest this company to any one.

Hello - I do work at Rose International in the US and unfortunately part of what a few clients require of us is that we do ask for candidate's Social Security Numbers in order to even submit candidates into their contract management portals.  It is not something that we enjoy doing and even have gone back to our client's to find out if there is another way they can verify if someone is eligible for employment with that company, however they will not budge on their requirement of a full social security number.

The clients that have been discussed on this forum are the client's the do request the social security number up front even before submitting the resume. We do have many other clients that do not request any form of the SSN, or a partial number like the last 4-5 digits, but unfortunately there are a select few that ask for the entire thing.  If you do not feel comfortable giving your Social Security number to someone who has an accent, we understand.  Please just kindly ask that recruiter to speak with a US Recruiter or Resource Manager for that information and they'll be able to connect you with that person validating the reason behind requesting the sensitive information.

We sincerely hope that there are not companies out there who are posing at Rose Int'l and scamming - but if you do have a suspicion please do ask to speak with a Resource Manager for the position and we'll be happy to validate the position.  That would also be another way to verify that it is a legit opening is by asking the recruiter to email you the job description then going through it with them on the phone or also asking for a position ID# or hiring manager's first name.  I hope this helps candidates understand that Rose is not in the business of collecting SSN, but rather abiding by our client's submittal requirements and doing our best to help you understand those as well as find you a fulfilling job opportunity!

I received a voicemail from someone saying they were from Rose Int'l and could not understand a word the person said due to a heavy accent. I received several emails about a job with Kaiser Permanente in the San Diego Area. The spelling and grammar in the emails were pretty bad so that made me especially suspicious that a company would allow somebody that hardly speaks or type proper English recruit for them. Another thing is the job id that is provided does not match anything on the Kaiser website. I find it very strange that I got calls and emails from two other recruiting agencies and they both have representatives with Indian names as well. Can it be that all recruiting now a days is done by India? I think something is very wrong and websites like career builder and monster should not allow these companies to view or search resumes if they are not legitimate companies in the U.S. it makes finding a job that much harder worrying about if it's an actual job offer or somebody trying to steal my identity.

Indian recruiter scam - they farm out to call centers in India in order to try to get a referral fee even though those referral fee's are not paid out as they would think.  It is pretty much the same thing as spam.

It is not illegal for anyone to ask anyone for his/her SSN. It is, however, illegal for anyone to "require" that one have a SSN or require SSN before anyone has 1) accepted a job. 2) Before an employee has earned wages. 3) Before an employee is receiving pay for wages earned. It is illegal for anyone to require that an employee have a SSN. The Social Security Act is a "voluntary" program. Write a letter to the Social Security Administration and ask for name and number of the law and Social Security Administration will tell you: "The Social Security Act does not require a person to have an SSN to live and work in the United States, nor does it require an SSN simply for having one." I can document this because I did send Social Security Administration a letter and did get their response which says exactly what appear here in quotation marks.

Sorry - I disagree about the legality of asking for a social security number.  NEVER PROVIDE it.   I have worked for both large corporations and tech consulting companies and have never given my social security number to ANYONE prior to filling out the background check  after I was offered the job.

Received a call from this number from a man named Naveen Satywali today. I definitely had to have him repeat pretty much everything, and it makes sense now that he was probably from India. That is fine, if it is legitimate. But I am just really afraid and hesitant now and seeing that anyone who posts anything positive about Rose International are few and far between and seem like they are just in on the ploy...

Should've gone with my first instinct when I thought it the email was a scam. There are definitely a lot of red flags, and although they didn't ask for my social, I still emailed them my resume AFTER they said they had already SEEN my resume prior to contacting me. He also called me about three times within ten minutes and wanting a detailed run-down of my entire resume and asked what my middle initial "C" stood for. I know having just your name and address out there is dangerous, which is why you're supposed to shred your mail, right? So.. I just hope nothing becomes of this.

Many large Corporations DO ask for your SSN as they use a tracking system for applicants to show eligibility for the positions the different companies submit for.  If you get submitted into their system twice for the same job with 2 different recruiting firms, you are ineligible for that position.

That is not true either.  When I was submitted to Enterprise, Express Scripts and a couple of other companies, the recruiting firm could not even submit my resume without adding my SSN and the MMDD together as an identification code.

The companies put you into their system and if you show up as having applied with another firm within 30 days, you are ineligible to apply for other positions.

This is Harem from Rose International regarding my resume on Monster for an opening for an IT Project Manager.  I don't have any IT experience, stop wasting my time.

This is the downside of posting  a resume on monster.com, everyone will call.  I don't want to sell Farmer's insurance either.
