It looks like this scammer is back! I received a call today from someone claiming to be Barbara Hines of the Mega Millions Claims and Legal Department, phone number 646-383-1458. She advised that I had won a sweepstakes and they had tried to notify me by certified mail. She had my correct name and address, but of course, I never received any certified mail. I was suspicious immediately because I do not play the lottery but I played along to see how far she would go. She claimed that a courier will deliver my 2nd place $325,000 after taxes prize on tomorrow. She did not ask me for any money or credit card information. She asked for my birthdate and cell phone number, but I told her I will give any personal information upon receipt of the prize. We hung up and she called back saying she needed to correct the claim number and I told her to restrict the time of delivery to between noon and 3pm. I called back to verify which lottery I supposedly won and she told me that I would have been entered through one of three ways: 1) Las Vegas Network, 2) Entered Publisher's Clearing House sweepstakes in the last 5 years, or 3) Used a credit card at a store like Walmart, Walgreens, Home Depot, Target, or Safeway. I called the police with this information as instructed on a Mega Million scam notice on the web. They advised that they are not doing formal complaints for Mega Million calls, and I should just ignore the call, but call 911 if I see any suspicious activity at my home.
