This company is legit.  Very professional.  I have consulted for them with excellent support, and quick pahment for services.  The terms are both reasonable and current with todays liability standards.
Why would finding you and contacting you through LinkedIn cause suspicion?  It is a networking site, you post your resume....

I have concerns about the agreement they are asking potential consultants to sign, so am happy to read that you are also suspicious. It might just be a match-making operation that takes a cut from the top, which is perfectly legitimate, but it strikes me as odd that they would force me to sign an agreement first and foremost which gives them a lot of legal power and loop-holes.

For example, you can only charge for the actual time spent on the phone, which (I assume) can be tracked digitally. You have to agree to release them from any legal obligations. If a client is unhappy with your services, they reserve the right not to pay you. And so on.

I would suggest that everyone read the agreement carefully before taking it any further. And again, they may be completely legitimate and happy to help us consultants find a little extra work. Still, it's odd that they would approach me without knowing any more than my LinkedIn information....

So whats the problem if investors want to understand an unknown industry better? It is pretty reasonable and logical way to ask.

They smell like are a breed of firms that offer services known as "Expert Interviews" to their clients.  Basically, a private equity or hedge fund firm looking to go long or short an industry or a company, will hire such firms to seek out senior individuals within that industry or firm to get their views and information.  While this may sound legit (and often is), the line between legit and illegal is very blurry here.  What many of the clients are really trying to extract is non-public and insider information to help make their investment decision.  I don't want to be any part of that and I am sure most of you don't either.

I got an email from Chip Emery but haven't replied. Google brought me here.

It doesn't matter if they pay you or not. Look at the the privacy statement posted by ChrisJ.  Notice that " As a pre-condition to participating in the consulting services described herein, you agree that Ridgetop Research may obtain and retain information about you, including personal and private information."

I won't sell my personal and private information for couple of hundred of bucks, when that information can be legally kept and resold by Ridgetop forever.

I also have been contacted by Ridgetop. I am a successful CEO and they want my consulting services. I the same as everyone else have received their agreement which I would NEVER agree to any of these terms unless I was struggling to pay bills, which I am not. Any lawyer would advise you not to agree to their terms. I will probably go check out their office only to see the face behind the emails, but will not be doing any work with them. Word to the wise, if you are successful and a leader in your industry and you get a strange email via LinkedIn, it probably is not a smart move to take it for a measly lump some of a few hundred dollars. And as for BBB accreditation, the BBB charges a fee for this and it is barely accountable these days. The BBB became so popular many years ago that they decided they could sell accreditation to generate a profit. You will notice their profile has no history on it whatsoever. Some BBB employee just processed the payment and selected "A-" and went on to the next company.

Can you be more specific?  Indicating they are shady is pejorative and not substantiated.

I got the same message form Linked In and have received it before.  I am very leery of it.  They want you to basically submit your resume BEFORE you are consdiered for a "highly paid" consulting gig via telphone.  They may be legit but if not it is a good scheme to scape resumes.

Has anyone actually been paid by this guy for a consutlting gig?

Ridgetop Research (via Linkedin...)

Got contacted from Peter Allison QUITE some time ago, went through the process and waited for the consultancy work....

A couple of days ago, I get contacted AGAIN this time by a Peter Schramm, asking the same thing in the same industry - There was me thinking some type of Phoenix from the flames had risen out of the ashes...

There´s been much talk about personal experience, so this is mine.

I just replied and made my position clear this time around...  RETAINER and I´ll be happy for you to secure my services, simple.  This is how it works when consultants feel a client is giving them the runaround, something I have no doubt in my mind Ridgetop has done.

I don't know if they´re legit or not, I haven't had the opportunity to find out, but I think if they´re prepared to go as far as they have with me, then after all this trouble, now they MUST pay the retainer to secure my services from here on in...

I generaly don´t come on to these type of sites, but hope my experience will help others serve their time better informed when contacted from this firm.

Good luck...

An Experienced Executive in the Gaming Industry.

I was contacted today by Ridgetop Research.  I've provided my contact information and agreed to their terms and conditions.  They so far are completely professional and I don't see anything out of the ordinary.

Posters on this thread with negative comments strike me as ill informed and malcontent.

I'm not sure if I'll end up doing any work for the firm, but I felt it necessary to update these posts and let folks know I don't see any scam here.

If I provide any service to them or their clients, I'll try to post an update.

Interesting pattern here: a few posts criticising/questioning this 'company', then, one saying how great it is and how they were paid on time etc

I got a similar message through a "linked-in" internal email. I'm requesting information from another member who shows as a consultant to the company and is a solid citizen. I'll update later.

These guys asked a friend of mine to do this kind of telephone consulting and she indicated me. They never called until today when they made the same proposition. I don't know if it is a scam, but I just work if they "Show me the money".

I got a call today from a lady Tiernan Ely at 646-465-9524 saying they are RidgeTop Consulting from NYC and have a client who would be interested in working with my former employer and get competitive advantage information etc.  I told her to email me the job description, instead I get their terms and conditions document.   She said she found my resume on jobhike.com or something, she said it really fast I had to ask her twice and even then she said it very fast that makes it hard to grasp the name of the jobboard site.

In my opinion trust nothing to do with Ridgetop Research. Nothing about this company rings true and I am suspicious that anything positive said on this message board is posted by plants/stooges.

Hi everyone - further to my post above dated 10th March, I recieved my cheque in the mail this morning. I have to say that Tiernan at Ridgetop has been nothing but extreamley professional from start to fininsh returning calls, answering emails promptly and delivering payment when promised.

For all the negative postings above - just how many of you have actually engaged with Ridgetop to do business? Shame on anyone who posts an 'opinion' without actually experiencing for themsleves.

As for me, I have worked with Ridgetop, would totally reccommend them and would be more than happy to work with them again in the future. It's a true shame that such a credible company has to consistanly justify itself on a rumours site like this.

Finally, if anyone is reading this and thinks 'yeah right, anyone included in this scam could be writing that' consider this.... I live in Scotland, have never worked with Ridgetop before and prior to working with them I had never heard of them, what reason would I have to post this otherwise?

Anyway that's my rant over - well done Ridgetop - good luck for the future and keep up the good work!
