Thx. Read your threads. Also NYU Grad. Called NYU Dept of Alumni Development and reported this just now. They removed my number from their calling list.

No vm, keeps ringing me on my cell.
NYU Engineering Grad 2014-04-28 16:27:41 Unknown
I called the number and there is a recorded announcement. It is: "You have called a number that is not recognized by New York University's telephone system." Called multiple times on my cell, so no caller ID. No message. VERY ANNOYING.
This could be an automated system that records when you answer, and then a human will call in one of those time windows.

Yep, me too -- NYU grad.
They've been calling my cell repeatedly over the last month but never leave a message. I just blocked them.
Hopefully that will end it.

I think we've established who the callers are. I have blocked the other numbers they use (I used to get 212 area code calls, and then 201 area code calls -which I blocked) but here we go again!

I have been getting this for a couple of weeks. Also an NYU Alumni. They must not realize that they're 160K education yielded a well read financial failure...

Sadly, these calls are part of he trend, or may be a total fraud altogether, illegally using NYU on Caller Id. Two of the universities I earned degrees from, including NYU, have a terrible habit of calling and calling and calling, but don't have the human/professional decency to leave a message with a legitimate number to call back on. They persist in using call-out only numbers. Dumb! If they really want a donation from an alumnus, they need to smarten up their procedures, otherwise why bother calling at all? Calls to the Alumni Office have been to no avail. In the end, I have to put these calls into the general group of nuisance, fraud, scam calls, etc.. It is assumed that all improperly or incompletely identified numbers are from the increasing number of scams, frauds, tie-lines, etc. This is why everyone must contact their elected reps in DC to demand that they significantly strengthen the DNC laws, providing extremely severe dollar and prison sentences for violators, and give more strength to the FTC. This is an opportunity for Congress to actually do something useful for the country, not just pass gas and throw spitballs at each other. Any business must be properly identified with their legal name on Caller Id, not hide behind Not Available, Private, Unavailable, etc. It is time to ban any kind of solicitation call, whether telemarketer, charitable, political, survey, opinion poll or whatever, plus outlaw any use of tie lines, robo-callers, VoIP, or use of numbers not issued by a legitimate, FCC licensed common carrier (telephone company). You can be assured that funds donated or authorized over the phone will mostly go into the pockets of the organizers, not to the charity or political campaign, or intended purpose, along with a $10 donation showing up as $100s in charges. Never give a credit card number or any personal data to anyone over the phone. There must be a new scam and fraud being generated every second out there. We need call control, not gun control!

Got a call from this number today. No one in my family or anyone we know goes to or has ever gone to NYU.

My mom and I have been getting calls from this number at least a dozen times in the past week. Each time, they refuse to reveal their identity, only insisting that they are associated with New York University (where I've recently graduated from). They keep asking for donations, even though we've politely declined and requested that they stop calling us.

picked up and hung up on. have gotten this call plenty of times over the past month.
NYU alum 2013-08-01 23:34:19 Unknown
I'm an NYU alumnus as well, been getting this call for months now, but the pace has picked up this past month, almost once a day it seems. I never answer.

"you have dialed a number that is not recognized by new york universities telephone system... please hang up and dial again."

I answered once last mo. They knew my address and email. Said they were nyu and were collecting information regarding my experience. I hung up after thinking it was suspicious. Since then ive had 18 calls from them... all blocked by me of course !!! So creepy. Could It really be nyu??!! From a 646 no?
Hayley 2013-07-11 02:00:49 Unknown
Same as above, every day for a week now! Someone make this stop??

Why is NYU always taking my money!!!

It's from NYU Development Office, seeking donations. Like many folks who posted above, I am an NYU grad school alum. I don't mind calls seeking a solicitation, just the time of day they contact me. I now have put this number on my cell blocker so that they can only get though to me at times of my choosing.

JB 2013-04-30 22:14:54 Unknown
SAME. NYU. DAMMIT.
LJ 2013-04-17 00:22:37 Unknown
Me too . . . NYU graduate . . .
Kim 2013-04-02 23:02:30 Unknown
I answered the phone and someone started screaming at me saying they were from NYU. At first they just kept saying my first and last name and wouldn't say who they were. I hung up. When I called back there was a message saying that this number is not recognized by NYU. I did not go to NYU. It is probably some sort of scam.

I called the number and there is a recorded announcement. It is: "You have called a number that is not recognized by New York University's telephone system."

It's the same number you all got and I'm an NYU graduate from a long time ago. It must be time to hit up alumnus for the 'ole annual donation. I hate this. They hung up before I could answer.

I've been getting this call almost every day for a month now. I'm not sure if it doesn't actually ring because I ALWAYS just see that its a missed call. Called back once and said something about NYU?
