I have been getting numerous "your Vicodin/Valium/Norco/Oxycodone prescription is ready" pharmacy calls from all over the Southern US, mostly South Carolina & Florida for about a year and a half now. I have managed to stop some of the repeat callers by saving all the phone numbers in my phone under the name "idiots", then when they call, I answer "this is Amy" or some other name. It has gotten almost 75 percent of the numbers that have called at least once to give up on calling my number. Today was the first call from New York, they asked "is this Jo", and I said "No, this is Amy, I think Jo had this number about 5 years ago", and they hung up without saying anything else. I am not sure this is one of the pharmacy calls, but looking it up, a similar number 646-524-3820 IS a pharmacy scam number. I did get most of the callers to give up by typing out a message and reading it when I knew it was them (repeat call or similar numbers) and the auto dialer was still connecting...I read "This is Michele in the Attorney General's Prescription Drug Diversion Investigations Unit. I am on another line or away from my desk, if you leave your name, number and if you have it, the case number you are calling in reference to, either I, or another agent will return your call by the end of business today. Thank you." I hope the person on the other end soiled themselves when they heard it. If this New York caller tries again, I'll have to use the "Michele at the Attorney General's Office" trick again. It cut down on the calls so much, it can't hurt to try it more!
