I recieved the same call, accused the guy of being from India. He said he was from California. I told him the number originated from New York and that he was trying to scam me. He denied it and kept rambling about a virus. I told him to go F*** himself, and in turn he said "f*** you". I would assume he isnt affiliated with Microsoft.

Yes we had two calls from them today. We were not around, but apparently they are persistant. The funny thing is that we have not been on our computer for about 3 days. And I can't recall reporting any issues.

This is a scam that will ask you to do several things on your computer in order to "get rid of spyware" that is clogging your computer. In the least technical terms, they ask you to (unwittingly) give them control of your computer by typing in several commands. Don't fall for it! Google the terms "windows+R scam" (include the quotation marks and it will search specifically for the alerts on the scam, otherwise you might be going to websites that are actually promoting this scam instead!!).

Also got a call from a guy with a heavy accent, told me my computor was running slower from all the hackers messing with my computor. (Not true) I finally told him I was busy, thanks anyway, and hung up. Hubby was listening on another phone, said the guy cussed when I hung up. Hubby tried calling the number back but it just rang busy. That's when I googled the number and found this post.

Have been receiving calls from this number since Feb. 27th and usually very early in morning
They told me they were receiving error and warning messages from my computer and they
worked for Microsoft and would fix it...the cost is anywhere from $199.00 to $400.00.
THIS IS A SCAM AND DO NOT PARTICIPATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The number 646-559-6131 has been calling my house for the past week. Very annoying because it is all hours of the day and night. I have starting filing reports with the national do not call registry. If everyone files a report with them, they will investigate it.

Got this call too from NY, NY. This computer virus scam has been popular for a while. A number of my friends and neighbors have fallen for it. Usually the caller has an Indian accent, but it appears now the callers from this number are Asian.
In either case, please know that Microsoft or any other company is not going to call you about a virus. These callers can be very polite, and accommodating to your schedule. They will call you back if you ask and they will give you a number where you can reach them. Don't be fooled. It's a scam to get access to you computer. You've lost nothing by answering the phone. Please don't give them access to you computer.
If you pick up a second call, tell them the virus trashed your computer. It won't even start up, so you brought it in to be recycled and will be buying a new computer that doesn't have a virus.

I got a call from this number at 8:15 A.M. on Feb. 25, 2012. The caller asked to speak to the owner of the computer and of course that was me. He told me my computer was hacked and used for criminal activity. I asked him to identify himself and where he was located. He said PC Support from New York, I told him I already own a PC support program and he told me to hold the line. I hung up and filed a police report, scanned my computer for a virus and changed some passwords. By the way, no virus was found and McAfee would block an intrusion of course. But I decided to err on the side of caution. These phishing scams are getting annoying.

Thick African accent - said he worked for Windows PC Support.
I immediately recognized it as a Scam call - I told him I had a MAC, which I don't and he hung up.
So sad that there are so many scam artists out there.
Why doesn't the drop down menu on this site include 'Scam' as a call type???

Received a call from this number at 7:59am. The person speaking said that my Windows computer had been hacked. He then asked if I would go online (with the probable intention of trying to get me to allow him to remotely attach to my computer). When I asked him how he obtained my phone number he freaked and hung up. I hope they (whoever "they" are), will call back. Two can play at this game!
Folks, don't buy into this nonsense! There is no way a legitimate company would know, or care, if your computer is compromised unless you're paying someone to monitor your system; a highly unlikely scenario given the volume of virus and antimalware programs available for free or at a cost (i.e., Norton, McAfee, etc.).
Like it or not, you are responsible for the security of your computer, and unfortunately most people seem to think that virus and antimalware programs keep them safe. This is only part of the game. Windows operating systems are probably the most vulnerable of all to attack mostly because it is probably the most widely used OS. Along with this the US has not yet really come to terms with legislating any really meaningful computer privacy laws. Add to this that Microsoft is often slow to release patches and fixes for known security vulnerabilities and/or that companies that love selling your information to third parties, and you have a good idea of the extent of the problem.
So what can you do? Actually quite a bit.
First, obtain and use good virus and antimalware protection. I use Malwarebytes Antimalware (the free version), which means that I have to run it every day. The price of being cheep....
Safeguard your online privacy. Two programs I like and use are DoNotTrackMe Plus. A free program that keeps companies from tracking your online web browsing (mostly for marketing strategies). It also keeps these companies from dropping tracking cookies into your computer. I also like and use Adblock Plus (also free). It really cuts down on those distracting and annoying ads from appearing. Better still, I have yet to see any loss in functionality in any websites that I visit which can become a problem when using IP address proxies.
Never allow a company to store information on your computer. On occasion I used to see a pop up (supposedly from Adobe Systems Inc.), requesting to temporarily store information on my computer. I find it impossible to believe that Adobe would ever have need to use my meager computer for storage. Adobe is a multinational company that probably has huge server farms quite possibly all over the world.
Take the time to educate yourself about computer security and privacy. It is not as complicated as most people think. Knock on wood, I have not had a virus or malware threat in several years thanks to taking these few simple precautions. Because of those precautions when I get calls like the one this morning I know with reasonably certainty that the call is a scam.

I just received two calls from 646-559-6131 supposedly my computer needed help. I yelled @ him because he called @ 7:40 & 8:00 AM. Foreign voice same person. What can we do to stop these calls. Probably callinf from a foreign country also. I don't deal with people that I can't understand especially on the phone. When I called the number back it was always busy.

of having problems with virus. He wouldn't tell his name.
