East Indian guy who said his name was Steve Walker gave me a NYC callback number 646-664-1919 said he was calling from Microsoft and that there were problems on my computer. I asked him how he knew that and he said I had done a scan (which I actually had just done!), so very creepy. He told me to go to my computer and he would help fix my computer. I told him I would not let him into my computer. He told me to go to the Event Viewer, which showed a lot of errors. Then he said he would have to look inside my computer and I said NO. He said he couldn't help me otherwise. He suggested I call the number above to verify. I told him to hold on instead and looked the number up on the web and it directed me here. It took me that long to remember a scam I heard about where people call and say they are tech help and then bill you hundreds of dollars you knew nothing about.  I told the guy no thank you and I hung up. Can't wait to see if I get billed so I can call the FBI. He shouldn't have my address or email so if I do get billed that is even more creepy!

We received a call from the same indian guy.  He was trying to get us to do a computer sharing program with him.  He would have had complete control of our computer.  He was pretty insistent too.  This is a scam.  This man is a thief!

Well I got the cold call saying that with all the error codes that I was sending to microsoft, they were calling me to fix them.  I knew that my computer was running slow and had lots of error codes so assumed it was lagit, but still had reservations.  I let him into my computer and he showed me all the error etc and I let him go ahead and do the "work"... interestingly today I have had multiple calls from this number which I have not answered .Now I see it is a scam what I allowed them to fix and worried that they have access to my information and I am out $$$$$.  Yes call be sucker

One of these fools just called me and told me my computer was infected and it was about to crash at any time. He said he needed me to turn it on so he could show me what was wrong with it.  Of course I told him I couldn't at the moment and he gave me this number.  His name was "Adam" and he had a strong Indian accent.

Phone number showing on Screen was "Out of Area 4410". Curious so answered the call. Stated they were "Microsoft Tech Team" and were getting error messages from my computer (??????) and needed me to correct them per their instructions. Said they were not true Microsoft employees but outsourced by them. I asked for a legitimate phone number where I could verify the validity of the call and he gave me 646-664-1919 and said to ask for him, Sam Anderson (with a very strong Asian accent).

Yeah, like I'm gonna do that!!!

Dude called, said he is in New York and my system is currently being hacked by 12 different people. He said that he was calling from Microsoft. Knowing that Microsoft does not call people, I asked for the phone number, he gave 616-664-1919. Knowing that it is not a Washington state area code, I was able to relax and have some fun.
I first pointed out that Microsoft is in Washington and that area code is not. He then advised that he actually works for a company called ask4tech.net based out of New York (oh I see, the story is already changing).
Now I am trying to stop myself from laughing and I say "since you are calling from New York, there must be someone in your office that speaks perfect English with either no accent or a New York accent. Let me talk to them. I was transferred about 4 times before I finally hung up laughing.

Caller was barely intelligible.  I think it was partly him and partly the connection.
I asked him for his number so I could call him back.
He gave me 16466641919 in bits and pieces and kept talking.
Claimed Microsoft was getting error messages from my computer.
I'm not running Microsoft, but I asked him for the IP address anyway.
He said he didn't have it, but said my Microsoft software was sending error messages.
I told him I wasn't running Microsoft.
He said something else before I hung up.
I think it was intelligible, but I don
t remember it.

they are still at it, Call ID said "unknown Caller".  last week I laughed when he said he was with Microsoft team, and he hung up so today I played along.  Gave me his ID number and I did go thru the steps he requested to see the Event Viewer. He said my computer was sending 3000 error messages to Microsoft and he wanted me to go to Google, I stopped him there and said Microsoft would not send me to Goog, but to their website instead.  He gave me his phone as 646-664-1919 x2866 Sam Heuns and address Szold Place, E 12th St, NYC,NY.

Don't know exactly what the scam is or if they are trying to steal my info because never let them get that far.

I'm sure many do. That doesn't negate the fact that Microsoft NEVER cold calls you. They do NOT "monitor" your computer. If you have not initiated contact with MS first, they will NOT call you. EVER!
Be Safe. Be Aware.

"Lee" spoke with what sounded like an Indian accent and told me he was calling from Microsoft to tell me that my computer was connected to their system and showing them error messages and spyware and he'd help me fix it. I asked for his name and callback number, googled it and found this along with a few other sites saying the same thing.

I just wonder why they're still using the same number.

These are scum sucking criminals. There is no way that they can trace error messages from your PC and know what your phone number is. DO NOT FALL FOR THEIR SCAM!

Got a call from 'Jack' ID 2827, with an East Indian accent telling me he was from Microsoft tech team and they were getting error messages and it could harm the server and my computer. He told me to go to START  >right click on My Computer and pull up MANAGE>he then got me to look at Event Viewer, and showed me how to see all the Errors and Warnings on my computer. He suggested I try and delete them (right click) and I couldn't (that was bad). He wanted me to install a remote viewer so he could see my server connections because other people where trying to use my network. I have one computer through CenturyLink, no network. I am doubtful so I tell him he is not credible and ask for a phone number. He gives me 646-664-1919 and tells me his name and employee ID number. I said I'd check into it. Pulled up this site and got clued in, and then I googled "why should I delete error and warnings from my computer" and got a site that told me the steps to delete the event logs (just click on ACTION in the tool bar and it gives you an option to "Clear All Events".
