This is nothing more than a phishing scam and someone trying to steal your private information in an attempt to steal your identity. You can forward the message on to the following address for reporting purposes:
phishing@irs.gov

Got an email with this saying that the reader is a non-resident alien...as this is an office email I assumed it was spam. For those that get this email, forward it to phishing@irs.gov

I called the IRS today, it is phishing. Do not reply, but report to the IRS anti-phishing email address.
Do not provide any information which is likely to be used for identity theft

I received a one-sentence email today (12-15-08), purportedly from the IRS, asking me to fill out two attached word documents: Form W-4100B2A1.doc and Form W-4100B2A2.doc.
It says: "Please see the attachment make sure you fill all the columns and send fax to: 1-646-731-6884."
Through my trusty ReversePhoneDirectory.com, I traced the fax number back to the Bronx, New York.
Considering the lack of conjunction (the word 'and' is missing from the sentence) this is a pretty sloppy scam. Not even the IRS is that bad at grammar!

Received this on my agency's general email. I, too, was shocked that people opened the attachments. That is a catastrophe waiting to happen. My agency has a section that handles spam so I forward all questionable items to them. How disturbing that even government computers are not immune to phishing.

Hi, I got the same message. I will report this to the IRS. Check their web site. They say on their web site that they don't send unsolicited emails and warn for identiy theft. They give an email address where you can send such examples: phishing@irs.gov.

Received an email from "nonereply@irs.gov" asking me to fill in two forms that are attached and fax to this number. No such forms on IRS site. Don't open - it can be a virus or someone looking to get your personal information.

I'm shocked that the folks here actually opened the Word attachments. Some of the very earliest computer viruses came in the form of scripts embedded in Word documents. Relying on anti-virus software to protect you against something so blatantly criminal is not a good idea. Advice to the wise: Don't open this sort of attachment in the future!

Using the IRS Name for a SCAM.
Email came with two attached word documents relayed from a sprintpcs user.
(68-247-106-202.pools.spcsdns.net [68.247.106.202])
The scam asked for a form "FORM W-4100B2 (US Tax Recertification)" to be filled out.
Apparently there are multiple telephone numbers and area codes being used with the same format. (according to this blog http://rapidcityjournal.com/blogs/editor/?cat=7)
The attached files don't appear to do anything destructive.
