What do I do?

Just got a call and it scared me. I know a lot about the law and told j smith that I will call him back I can record the conversation. He got upset. Has anyone been served with a letter because I did manage to squeeze a little info. It was a loan that is paid in full.3156360475 was the number he used.

I got the same call... this is the # they called me from : 646-583-3046.... Just in case anyone else gets a call from that #. I almost gave them the money, then they told me that I need to go to the store and buy a pre-paid visa card and pay them that way. That's when I knew for sure that this was a scam.

Beware....they are getting very convincing.

I received a call to from a man with strong accent. He scared the crap out of me.  I was all in a panic, called the brother asking what do I do he said "I'm your line of work u can't get anything on your background". I agreed with him, we disconnected. Sitting here I started to think about everything I know I never did what they accused me of but did I and forgot so I Google the address only to come with a museum and library.  But when I Google the Lawyers name it seems to be legitimate.  Going a little deeper I stumbled upon this site n i just want to thank you guys for saving me 5400 dollars I don't have.

Same thing he told me I was going to be in jail I will have to pay 5000 in fees
So t thought about it this a***ole calls me on Labour Day when every business
In the U.S. is close for the holiday an I ask for the phone number to call the company he didn't know it
Then the b*****d said u paid them dont worry bout it im knowing
I never delt with this company an the document he reads to u is false

I am also receiving calls from them I saw these posts and called them back and told them to stay on the phone the fbi is tracing there call and they told me never to call back there again and hung up when I called them back again they did not answer, callers Nick Johnson and when I told him he was going to jail and the FBI is tracing the call  he got upset and hung up

I keep getting the same people the idiot who keeps calling me is Jay Smith or its a Kevin Jay is a complete durt merchant he is so rude and nasty ..I called Mr Rothman in Washington he's an older man who said he's been fighting this for over a year his best advice was to call the. FTC and the FBI and your governors office these people are such frauds

I received a threatening call from Jay Smith.  The number they used was 646-583-2541.  They called to say that I would be served with papers to my employer and at home and asked for my attorney's name.  When I tried to get more information from him, he became rude and condescending.

**UPDATE**  I called the ACTUAL number for Mark Rothman and Associates and informed him I was receiving threatening calls that claim to be represented by his office.  The poor man was practically in tears with anger and frustration and apologized and his exact words were that "It is bull$@it and these people are thieves".  They have been doing this to his company for over a year now.  He gave me the name and number of a gentleman at the National Consumer League to contact with my info.  I called and left a message asking him to return my call.  Name and number are Mr. Perry 202-835-3323.  Hope this helps some of us in some way.  Good luck everyone as the situation unfolds on you LOL!

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

We are also receiving these calls.  Most recently from Nick Johnson from Mark Rothman and Associates Law Offices - phone # 646-480-0225, however they have called from at least 3 different numbers in the past 2 months and always use a different name.  A woman even called once (also with an East Indian accent) and when my husband tried to get info from her she yelled at him that he is an idiot, was going to jail and hung up on him.  I've tried contacting my local police but they initially told me that since they weren't communicating a physical threat there was nothing they could do.  They have become harassing though so I continue to update the officer assigned to the case with each new phone # I am contacted from.  This all started for us as well shortly after receiving a payday loan (which has been paid in full).  I know I shouldn't be bothered by them, knowing they are scam artists but it upsets me every time I get a call or voice mail from them.  They are so scary sounding.  I guess since my local law won't/can't do anything about it I will try the FTC as well - wasn't aware that was where I should be reporting them so I'm glad someone shared that information.  And what is the deal with them all being from Majic Jack numbers?  Are those not traceable or something?  If, when I do a reverse number lookup I can limited info that they are in NY can't an actual law enforcement agency or phone company do better and pinpoint them?  Grrr... so frustrating... thinking of having my phone # changed.

Today got one from Nick Johnson (bad English LOL) from Mark Rothman & A**. 646-480-0225. Im going to jail tomorrow ladies lol. All these loans I took out & blah blah blah!! I told them to come and get me it might be a vacation

I received an email today from a former co-worker that "Frank Foster"  from Mark Rothman and Associates needed to speak with me about a time sensitive legal matter.  Having seen these posts, I knew it to be a scam. I called the number (646-480-0225) and when "Frank" answered, told him that I was aware of the scam and to stop harassing me.  Less than 2 minutes later, I received a phone call that my caller ID registered as my town's police department.  The person on the other end of the phone had and Indian accent and said that he was looking for the lady who called the law office.  I stated that I was that person.  He asked for my name, I refused to give it.  He asked for my location and I refused to give that as well.  He asked why and I said that this was a scam.  He told me that it wasn't, that I could look at my caller ID and see that it was from the police department.  I replied that if that was the case, they would know my location.  He replied that he would be over to "throw my a** in a police car." I called our local police department, they sent an officer over, he called the 646 number, and all of a sudden, nobody could speak english.  He also took a picture of the call that came in from the police department's phone number.  Because these scumbag b*****ds were able to place a call through the police department's phone system, law enforcement is taking this very, very seriously.  It has already left the local level and the CT state police are now involved.  If you get a phone call or message that comes from a phone number registered to law enforcement that is harassing or threatening, notify your police department and DO NOT erase the message or the caller ID tag!!

Got this call today, told them my lawyers name was Moe Howard (3 Stooges) and gave him a 800 number for phone sex. lol. STUPID PEOPLE get stupid responses from me :)

It seems that some govt agency should be able to stop these con artists. ENOUGH !

I just got a few calls from these people, calling in behalf of Mark Rothman and Associates Law Firm. There are calling from 2 different numbers, (646) 719-8382 and (315) 370-7965, both of which are Magic Jack #'s. Saying that I have a pending lawsuit that will be going to the court house in couple of days. I kept asking the information but all they wanted is to confirm my information first. The scariest thing about it, is that they had at the very least; the last 4 digits of my social security. The accent is from India, and although he is using different names, I think is the same person.

This Law Firm needs to be sees by the Authority of NYC...

I got this same call, and it happened last year.  This guy is nuts!  Never a legit answering machine or voice message, and he keeps changing name!  I looked up the "law office" he called from and it is a marketing group!

I just received the same phone call!    Same name and everything-  kind of scared me for a minute-  as of 11:00 tomorrow I will be on my way to jail!!

THIS East Indian man called saying he is calling from the law office of Mark Rothman New York.He said his name is Eric Stewart.He also threaten me that if i did not return his call as soon as i get this message he will be sorry for me and can only wish me good luck.

Same person is calling me, I called back and got a Kevin Miller - Edwards supervisor, same statements as yours...What I got was the following information...Law office of Mark Rothman address 675 3rd ave New York 10007... Had to make him spell several times very hard to understand any of them.  calling from 645-233-3085 too.

Eddy Brown is the guy who keeps calling me saying I owe since 2008. I've never gotten a loan from what he says I did. I googled n bing that loan company and showed I had to application with them. Please help me and let them quit calling me. I've never gotten a loan from Advance America Cash or Advance Cash America.

i been getting calls from these numbers saying that i own  them $2300 and if i dont pay them that i would go to jail and also  my mom and my brother would go to jail the numbers are 646-845-9727 and 646-233-3085 and local numbers 954-753-5040 and 954-753-5050 . the local numbers said that they are cops and had a warrent for all 3 of us .  i told them to come get me cause i had paid off a loan i got last year . but really it was the same people so these indians got me once for $1900 i feel so stupid for falling to this scam . but ill tell you its hard not to fall cause they have all my info . home info work info my s/s/ number  my routing  info and account info . and my e-mails also .  i was told that at 11 am officers would come pick me up . this has been going on  for months now . and it sucks why cant the FBI stop this from happening ?? or the phone company help in tracking them down . i asked them for  there info so i could wire the payment and was told that they could not give me that info . any ways good luck people . this sucks big time .

Same here..I am so glad that you guys posted this as well. I have contacted several people regarding this matter. I got these calls  about a year ago and for some reason they started back again on yesterday. Is there ANYTHING we can do to STOP this!!!??? None of us deserve to be harrassed like this!
