Call was from "College Genie"
I answered the phone & when I asked what the call was in regards to the caller became extremely rude & hung up on me. I immediatly called the number back & reported her behavior and asked to be removed from their call list. I suggest to everyone that they do the same. They have to by law remove your phone number & it will no doubt be annoying if millions of people returned their calls to be removed and report rude attitudes.

Caller read an obviously scripted greeting, when I asked a simple yes or no question, he simply re-read the script. I could barely understand him through his heavy accent. When asked how they got my number, he claimed that I had either filled out a suvery or an inquiry online. I've done neither, and I'm already in college, so I have no use for their 'services.' I've also been registered on the Do Not Call Registry for months, so I'm not entirely sure how they called me, unless they have a random dialer, which would explain the 10 sec interval between my answering the phone and his greeting.

Called and left a message for me at work? How did they get my work number??

I got a call on May 15, 2010 and I did not pick up. If Me, Myers, Ryan, Jim, and Heather are in college and studying online, then your data has been compromised. I have two professors harassing me on the phone and got into my credit report. I had one impersonate someone's name from a finance institution. Luckily, I recognized the voice and called all the bankers, business enterprise, and the police. These people work in the research survey or collections. Be careful and do not give any further information or call the local police and investigate.

Last Fall I completed an online Meyers-Briggs personality test and (unfortunately) clicked a box saying I'd be interested in information on online degrees. The "mystery calls" started shortly after that. They typically come in a burst, where they call you several times in a day, or several times in a week. They rarely leave voicemails, because they know most people succumb to the temptation to see who keeps calling them relentlessly. My suggestion is to never answer a call from a number you don't recognize unless that person is polite enough to leave a professional voicemail, clearly stating their full name, their company, their phone number, and the precise reason for their call. Anything less is simply rude. I hope less and less people give in to their curiosity. I know I've FINALLY learned not to call these people back. Good luck to everyone! Stop calling me.  This is an unwanted call and I am also on the do NOT call list!

NEVER ANSWER A CALL FROM 646-884-7011 ! If you ever received a call from them or called back MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR BILLS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!! So strange that they are calling me right now as I'm typing this to all victims!!!! Possibly a Gov. business.  They call almost 24/7 they wake me up real early in the morning and don't stop calling till night.

What ever you do don't call them or answer them. I believe they are somehow trying to steal minutes or lines to talk on. They are 100% Scammers, if anybody has been called from 646-884-7011 check your bill as soon as possible if you answered or called back that number!

I keep getting a call ALL DAY LONG, ALL MORNING LONG, AND ALL AFTERNOON LONG!!!! They NEVER EVER leave messages at all, They even tried blocking their number not even a minute after they hung up the last call. They tried blocking their number several times so that I could pick up their call!

I got a call from "College Genie" from this number i looked it up and its a new york number They are trying to sell you crap just call em back and ask them to take u off the list.

Asked to speak w/ my wife. then only said he was 'Brian' from 'School Advisor". Then he disconnected the call??

I received a call from this number 15 minutes ago. I didn't pick up and they did not leave a message. I looked them up and then called back. I waited on hold for less than a minute and a woman picked up. I told her that I just received a call from this number and that I'm on the national do not call list and they need to stop calling me. She asked for the phone number to stop calling and said I would be taken off of the list. We'll see if that actually happens...

I don't live in the continental US, however my phone has a stateside area code. I am in a completly different time zone. 646-884-7011 calls me at ungodly hours of the morning. I am becoming very annoyed. I do not answer as I am sleep. I wished this would stop. I know they don't have a clue and they need to respect privacy, but I don't live in continental US and I need my sleep. It is usually 5:00 am, 5:30, or 6:00 am my time when they call. I am in the South Pacific ASLEEP. What happened to the Privacy Data Act of 1974?

Got a call from this number.  Did reverse look up of the number on 411.com - says it is a cell phone and is unlisted.  As with the above complaints, no message was left. Returned call and told they were "College Genie" and was put on hold to wait for the 'next available representative'... NOT

The number 646-884-7011 keeps calling and not leaving a message and YES I do screen my calls. If I dont know the number I dont answer.

I like the ability to google unknown numbers...some comments r unrelated however i always get the answer i need about calls from people i do not know. I use "afirewall" which i downloaded from android market to blacklist these callers once i find out who they are.

646-884-7011 called me twince in one day. First, the Caller ID read "NWYRCYZN01 NY" and the second time it read "IVR"  So weird!

Maybe the DNC list only applies to telemarketers?  I don't know if it works that way or not...

Anyway, many colleges/universities have "Survey Research Centers" on campus.  Essentially, that is a center (call-center), contracted by some agency, local government, or medical researcher to conduct a telephone survey with a target demographic, say "people with diabetes" or "people in San Bernardino County".  So you say that these people were asking for the/a person with diabetes, that means they know a person with diabetes likely lives there.  How? Because that peson or someone who knows them maybe filled out a form Online, requested information, searched a diabetes website, or somehow their name got on a list of people who probably have Diabetes.  Then, a Researcher purchases that list, and uses the names to build a list of respondents to his survey about interest in a new drug or therapy.  

I know I worked as an Interviewer in one of these Centers several years ago in college. My University was in Texas.  Most of our contracts were local governments in Southern California.  We were asking respondents about everything from streetlights and road conditions to programs and events.  It is a highly useful service, IF you can get people to respond because it helps whoever is paying for the survey to know where and how to distribute their funding.  The reason you will usually hear a foreign voice is because International students are not allowed to work off-campus w/o an H1B Visa, so they gobble- up the on-campus jobs.  As for why sometimes no one speaks, the Center may be stuck with incerdibly cheap equipment (automatic dialers) that don't fully connect calls, delay once connected, get stuck on mute, or maybe the Interviewer just didn't turn it off when he went on break.  We didn't leave messages either, but that was a rule - I don't remember why.  We never asked for any private info though, only optional demographic questions (age group, race).  And we had to return calls until we made contact with the intended respondent and that person said "not interested".

My mom has diabetes, so they probably got my info from a diabetes website I searched.  That is called Data Mining, and your information could me mined from any website you visit if it has been programmed that way.  Anyway now that I know what this is, I will definitely answer the next call.  I am quite interested in anything someone may be researching which could prolong my mom's life.

If you have AT&T U-verse with Phone, you can go to the U-Verse website and block the number.

K, well I have been getting calls from this number too non stop. But really, posting on HERE telling them to stop won't do crap. It's not like they're gonna come on here and read this and say "Oh Ok." You are either just gonna have to ignore them, or like someone mentioned before, answer the phone and swear at them and hang up, or be completely rude. Eventually they should stop calling.
Again, posting on here and asking them to stop calling is not gonna do anything.

Definitely just got a call from this number. Quit harassing me or you'll be hearing from me in a much more unpleasant way.

Overhaul their blog by posting your frustrations.  Tell everyone you know to do this.  Something will stop them from cold-calling us.  Let's see how they like it.  I've called several times and occupy their time with my pointless questions.

Then find out how someone is calling from your number!
