They said they are an officer & that there are three federal investigations and allegations against my name.   They said that they have received allegations of illegal criminal acts against my name & my identity.

They said they will start legal action against my identity if I don't call them back immediately.

They had a thick foreign Indiana or Pakistani accent.

Reported it to National Do Not Call Registry complaint at

so that we can get rid of these harassing phone calls!

Ordinarily I'd advise finding a mailing address and sending the thugs a cease-communication notice via USPS Certified with return card. However, the strong hint from other comments is that we have South Asian fakers making these ludicrous threats. They're either cousins of the bogus payday loan collectors or the same fiends with a few key terms in their talk-off scripts revised for "back tax" baloney. You might have to examine options for blocking the numbers they use. Others like to blast the thugs with choice curse-laden rebuttals or fool them into thinking they're tangling with some official "fraud division" .... some response which makes clear that their stupid bluff is not working on you.

Meantime, file complaints with the FTC and attorneys general for the common good. Maybe one day the thugs will get what's coming.

A caution from the *real* IRS, excerpted:

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

... "Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. .... Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail.

source: "IRS Warns of Pervasive Telephone Scam" - 31 Oct 2013
http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Warns-of-Pervasive-Telephone-Scam

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

You see that, you rotten thugs? The IRS still uses ink and paper if they have a problem with tax delinquency. Their agents do not ambush and terrify citizens like cheap hoodlums by phone or email.

The more elaborate the story, the less true it rings from extortionists. I'm glad you told these fools where they could go and sorry they added needless pain to your recent loss.

The thugs think they're pretty cute. The IRS does list a Taxpayer Assistance Center at 375 Bay Road in Queensbury. As you well know, tax collectors in the US don't rewrite scripts from fake payday loan collectors and shake down random victims on the phone. Two minutes on the phone with a *real* TAC should confirm that for anyone.

Sounds very fishy..the caller won't identify but is very keen in getting my personal information. Here is what he said. "My name is investigator Officer Jim Parker and I'm calling you from crime investigation Department. This message is to make you aware that we have received an affidavit against your name your name and your identities under the investigation. So I need you to give me a call as soon as you receive this message on my call back number which is 6469294626. I repeat the number 6469294626."  I have contacted my local police. They were already aware of this scam phone number. Can anyone suggest how to stop this?

Received a call from 646-929-4626

Same story here.  Received a voice mail that I have 3 legal allegations on your name & your identity is under threat.  Asked me to call the number.  Scammers.  They are after SSN and other financial information.  I blocked my caller id on mobile and called back them 8 times today to harass back.  Just giving back the treatment they are providing :-)  They have stopped taking all calls from unrecognized number.  LOL

Some guy claiming to be Investigation Officer Jim Barker, of crime investigation department left a voicemail message for my wife. The message states that they have received an affidavit against her name and her identity is under investigation. Wants me to call him back at 646 929 4626.. Funny, I do not have a wife here.

I normally do not answer calls from unknown numbers or unknown persons, and after seeing the caller ID my first action is to search that number on Google. This is what I have done and note that this is a scammer.

I would recommend every one to get a caller ID setup with their telephones and not answer their phones unless they are sure of the caller. It is sad that it has come to this.

I received the call from 646-929-4626. Saying there are legal allegations in my name and my identity is under threat. It's a scammer looking for SSNs and financial information. Call originating from Pakistan or India. Please call the number back after blocking your user id and harass them back. Only way to stop it. They need to get a taste of their own medicine.

I received the call too.... initially it scared the s*** out of me.. but thanks to these messages I am relieved.

Here is what I have done - http://www.irs.gov/uac/Report-Phishing

From the website:
"You receive a phone call or paper letter via mail from an individual claiming to be the IRS but you suspect they are not an IRS employee ?"

Phone call:
Ask for a call back number and employee badge number.
Contact the IRS to determine if the caller is an IRS employee with a legitimate need to contact you.
If you determine the person calling you is an IRS employee with a legitimate need to contact you, call them back.

I got a call from this number. A person named  Chris Robinson said I have  allegations against me by IRS for tax fraud and not paying my taxes since 1967.
There were not one but three allegations against me. By the way , I wasn't even born in 1967.

Just be careful -- don't tell them anything else if they call back. Just ignore them. You probably told them too much already (your dad passed, the date of his death, the coroner's info, etc.). And, sorry about your dad's passing.

Got a v-mail from 646-929-4626. The guy had an Asian accent (sounded Chinese). Claimed that it is Officer John Price from the Crime Investigation Department calling to let me know that they "received a legal affidavit, a legal case filed against [me], in [my] name and [my] legal identity is under investigation". As soon as I receive the message, I am supposed to call him back and if I don't, he will start his legal case against my identity. He capped it off telling me that it is better for me if I call him back and, by that time, his voice had a threatening tone. Clearly, the message itself is inconsistent (if there is already a legal case, why would you need to start your legal case). Also, his English grammar and pronunciation are off.

I received a call 10 minutes ago, from these a***oles.

They were looking for my father. Stated that there was a huge lawsuit pending against him and his social security number. They said that he used an illegal credit card in Las Vegas last weekend, at the Bellagio, to the tune of $17,256 and that they would be showing up to arrest him tomorrow. I called this a***ipe a bold-faced liar. I told him that I knew FOR SURE that Dad was NOT in Las Vegas last weekend. He laughed and said, "I guess there are some things that you don't know about your father. He spent the money on craps, Black Jack and prostitutes".

I said, "YOU are the idiot and a the liar. The reason I know that you are a scammer and a liar, is that my father PASSED AWAY on November 7th of this year." (This is the truth) I referred this jerk to the Coroners Office in Los Angeles County for verification.

He then said that maybe my MOTHER used the credit card. Not so much. I gave him the number of our probate attorney. (As soon as I concluded the call, I called the attorney to give her a heads up!) She told me that one of the newest scams is that these butt-wipes check the obits and try to scam the families, after someone has died.

I hope my son and my brother can find these jack-offs!!!
