This number called and I was sitting on the toilet. I ran to answer the call since I am looking for a new job, but they hung up before I could get to the phone. No message was left either.
When I called the number on the Call Display- I got about 2 seconds of music, then disconnected. I called them back 3X and the music/disconnect occured all three times.

Xentel is a telemarking company specializing in pressuring people to donate for charity. Go onto their site and email on the special "do not call" address and ask to be removed. They cannot produce a charity registration number [required if you are registered with government to show you are ligitimate] and request you pledge money first to get any information mailed to you. They state the charity number is on invoice [do not be fooled & do not promise anything]. They answer phone with the charity organization name and not their own name. When they use "Xentel" it sounds like the person's own name. Very secretive.

I worked for Xentel for quite a few years as a telephone fund-raiser. Quite a few retired people work for Xentel, we are not all the names that have described us in this website. Even though I draw my pensions there isn't a lot left over when all the bills are paid. I'm not expecting my family to bankroll me they have enough problems of their own during these trying times. Over the years Xentel has given jobs to the younger generation so that they can continue their schooling. It wasn't an easy job. It was hard to remain cheerful on the telephone when we were constantly being hung up on, called dirty names, threatened. My axiom was "Someone Has To Do It." Volunteering is fine but it doesn't put bread on the table.
Thank You

I received a call from a representative of the Shriners and politely told them that I already contribute monthly to two other Toronto hospital and that, given the present economy, I could not add them to the list. I have since received several automatically dialed calls from them. I intend to file a complaint as I believe that these calls originate from agencies that are hired by the Shriners and that they may not be aware of these abusive practices on the part of such agencies. I suggest we all do this.

I called them back and it says the line is out of order - "try again in forty-eight hours". They call over and over again. I've gone to the Xentel website and emailed to get off their list. We'll see if they ignore that.

They are actually from Xentel [telemarketing firm]. They help charity organizations do the calling. You can check at www.rameses-shriners.ca and their asking for donations for Kids Circus. Go onto their website [xentel] and email them on the "do not call" email line. Ask to be removed from their list. NOTE: donations are not registered on CRA. Just an invoice and will not be tax deductable. They just couldn't give me a charity registration number and fumbled when getting Shriner's website address.
When in doubt, just refuse to pledge any money. I just hate pressured calls.
