He said he's from a marketing company; I asked him to put us on the do not call list and he asked "Why, I'm not selling anything". I repeated my request, and he hung up.

this number called me today and last week inquiring about multiple sclerosis.  Said he was doing a survey  for some company called something or other Insights.  He sounded like he was from India.  He said he would send me a link to do a survey on MS so I unfortunately gave him my address to send me the link.  Several of my friends have MS so I said sure I'd do the survey.  Haven't received the e-mail yet but he's supposed to call me the day after to see if I completed the survey,. I will let you know what happens.  I unfortunately was dumb enough to give him my e-mail address!!

same deal - got a call from an indian man (line had terrible static)| asked for 4 minutes for market research - list of company names did I recognize / good ro bad opinion of them.

He kept on aksing more and more questions and I finally told him after 11 minutes that I was done - he kept on talking and I hung up on him.

Very frustrating to agree to help with a survey only to get that nonsense.

I got this call a couple of times yesterday (never answered it).  Which, after I read these comments, is quite interesting - I live in the States, not Canada.

Just got a call ... the guy said he was calling for a survey of cancer patients. When I asked how he got my number he said from the hospital. Which really pissed me off since I would think medical information is confidential. Worst of all ... I never had cancer so it made me even more pissed off ... when I told him that he asked me "So what do you want to do?" ... like I would still want to do the survey!

UPDATE:  I finally got in touch with a supervisor at Market Dimensions this afternoon. The supervisor literally begged me not to contact [name withheld-you can find it easily by googling] Director of Strategy Planning & Communication, stating that he would "reprimand the people who call repeatedly and hang up" and that he would "immediately take my name off of the list," etc (which I think is BS as it is on a CATI auto-dialer and it is their business model to make spam calls in this manner). It is about 3 hours later and the just called again, and hung up once again, this evening! Unbelievable. AND they give legitimate researchers a bad name.

This company has been making repeated calls to me for months, oftentimes calling 5-6 times per day. They hang up when I answer. This time, I answered but did not say anything and they finally spoke. They started asking me questions about who I am and my business. I told them I would not answer until they told me who they were, their company, their business and the purpose of the call. They would not, so I started threatening legal action. He eventually hung up on me. Before doing so, he said his company name is "Market Dimensions." I called there and they all play dumb and give you the run around. I suggest that we all start calling Market Dimensions repeatedly, day and night, like they do us!

I believe this firm also uses the number: 647-827-1065
Market Dimensions # is: 416-480-1500. They have offices in Canada and the US.
Go to LinkedIn.com and you can look up all of the executives at Market Dimensions and send them a message about their business practices.

Unsolicited phone call. Upon hearing a female voice, asking me if there is a Mrs. XXX (my partner's last name). Phone number is listed under my partner's name and is on the do-not-call list and should therefore not be called.

This number just called me -- claiming to be calling on behalf of the Royal Bank of Canada & they wanted to do a survey regarding my opinions on Banks.

Did not let them continue & hung up.

Whoever they are & whatever they are, they definitely cannot be trusted.  They called my place of business so unfortunately "do not call" lists don't apply.

Called a few times on Victoria Day, and my caller ID says 9 times in the last two months.  I finally answered, but there was nobody there... so it's from a call centre with automated dialling.

Of course, Canada does not have a Wildlife Department.  I called the number back and it was "Ace Research."  I've been in the marketing research business for 25 years and they must be new, as I've never heard of them.  I looked on the website for the industry association (MRIA) and didn't see them listed.  I can only assume that this is telemarketing, not legitimate survey research.  If so, it is illegal to do selling under the guise of research.  Just saying...

Had exactly the same experience as Rick. Same story. The whole thing sounded very odd and suspicious to me.
My caller  went one step further - wanting to pay me for partcipation in an online survey.
I think he was heading in the direction of trying to get an email address or possibly an account number
in order to send me my cheque.
I asked him for more specifics as to exactly what department he worked for. He then hung up.

The caller only identified himself as working for The Wildlife Department of Canada.

Mentionned to be from "Your provincial game & wildlife department" and asked if I went fishing last year.
When asked from which province the indian-sounding man did not answer and asked if I went fishing in Montreal (my place of residence) and then if I had a child of less than 15 years old living at my adress.

This call is highly suspect as much as for the text of the call and the time it was placed at (20:30).
