Also got one, after a phione call from the people a couple of weeks ago trying to pull the same scam by phone. To old to fall that one.

The scam continues.   Received the letter today - dated 2/8/2011
Says it is a UK based sweepstakes, winners on 1/5/2011.
This time it says contact "RAY SCOTT", Claim Agent (no Dr. this time !!!)

The check looks really real - company Hickory Springs Co. Hickory, NC and drawn on a wachovia Bank check.
Check for 3,879.50, (don't use until you call), and mentions needing $2970 sent for taxes on the 250,000 winnings.

received a check for almost 4,000.00 only had to send 2800.00 to cover taxes! Who-Hoo, made almost 900.00 dollars right off the bat! can't beat that! seriously, I hope they can catch these low lifes; they are the lowest of the low. sadly, some people, usually old, poor, or just too trusting still fall for these scams and lose their money. i am passing this info on to any interested law enforcement.

Wow this is too funny, I just got one today.With all the news going around about this stuff how do people still fall for it? What do I do to report it?

Received same check, was suspicious when I noticed the stamp on the envelope. The envelope was also dated 10/19/10 with no return address.  Sweepstakes and check information are combination of business addresses, routing number, and company information.  Called postmaster to report.  

Other suspicious items such as phone number is not toll-free; and why would a "Dr" of any kind be a claim agent.

received the same thing, same day, wow,,we must all be winners of $250,000.  I can imagine what these crooks would do once you endorsed that check and they had your signature to reproduce like they reproduced the so called original numbers on the bottom of the letter.  What a sick world we live in.

THIS IS A PHONE NUMBER I RECEIVED TO CALL REGARDING A BOGUS INTERNATIONAL SWEEPSTAKES AGENT.  I RECEIVED IT ON OCTOBER 19, 2010.  THEY SAY YOU WON MONEY, SEND YOU A CHECK AND ASK YOU TO CALL AN AGENT BEFORE CASHING THE CHECK.  THE CHECK IS SUPPOSEDLY TO PAY THE TAXES ON THE $250,000.00 THEY SAY I WON.
