They called me and sent me a confirmation email. Yes they told me it was at 243 Queen St. W Toronto in the middle of University Ave & the Much Music bldg. He told me to go to their website to give me a background of the company and this is the website http://www.redstarmrkt.com/

.....checked on their website. I found little information about the company. It doesn't say anything about the services they offer, or price quote(if they have one), etc etc... Not to mention, the "About us" section is not professionally written. Oh gosh... I can go on and on about this...

WARNING: Do not be fooled by their flashy effects/animations on their website http://www.redstarmrkt.com/
CHECK THE CONTENT, THERE'S NOTHING IN THERE...YOU'RE NOT GONNA GET ANY INFO

THERE ARE LOTS OF JOBS OUT THERE, WHY SETTLE FOR LESS?

Got the Call today... As well. Have an imterview line up. They do have a website... Atleast now. http://www.eastlibertymarketing.com/

I don't think the guy who called looked at my resume though. I have no working experience yet and they wanted me? It does seem wierd. And I got the same thing too, 99 Atlantice Avenue 2nd Floor room 212

I'm gonna go to that interview though, need a job

I got call from REDSTAR Marketing yesterday and asked me for an interview. after reading the forum, I just called back to the company regarding to what they exactly do, she told me it's a entry level job relates to marketing. And she said they as long as someone post resume on monster, they will call them. so i cancelled my interview. I am in finance field, not interested in marketing. The number they use is 647-699 9809

The whole premise of call display is to be able to screen phone calls.  When you are looking for employment it is crucial for both the potential employer and employee to assess compatibility. The internet and forums like these help people do this. This forum is not a group of people complaining rather spreading information about a company that is potentially needlessly wasting peoples time.

Please spare us all your condescending "grow up" message.

I got this call today.. they called twice. Don't know if I'm up for door-to-door sales since I have NO experience in sales, I don't even know why they would qualify me. Confused about this. Now wondering if they're hiring just everyone or anyone.

They just kept talking on the phone rapidly fast I couldn't catch any information at all and they've set me up an interview on friday.. Not feeling it. Not going.

I worked for East liberty marketing for 3 days. as a sales representative they send you on promotional work, wandering door to door in a neighborhood and repeating the same speech again and again..

I'd agree with Brad here, this job is OK if you have the patience, and if you have the patience of getting the door slammed at ur face again and again. Its totally luck if someone agrees to give a donation( for Red cross, WWF etc). you get $10 for each application filled, if you get none, you just get $35 base rate for the whole day. as far as i know, one would be luck to get 3 applications filled in a day. and also if you get 15 applications filled in a week( 5 day work), you get a bonus of $150.

so its like, working for 5 days.. $175 base rate, $10 for each application( for 15 apps $150) and an additional $150 for reaching the 15 apps mark.. in total, $175+$150+$150= $475 for a week. but if you are not able to reach 15 apps mark.. you only get $175+$10 for each app.

in my opinion its pure luck, and gambling with your time.

So Here's an update. I mentioned that I had an interview and would see what it's about.

Pay is simple- $175 a week. You work from 1-8 pm monday to friday, AND you have to go back to return company things and paperwork, so you end up leaving around 9.
This IS commission based and IS Door- to door. Yes, the lack if webpage begs questions but it is real, the employees (that i've met) are very friendly, and willing to help you learn. Lots of potential for growth within the company.

In summary, it's a job- if your interested in it, and have the patience for door to door, i recommend it- but otherwise, keep searching!

Hello,

Upon researching Red Star and East Liberty Marketing, I came across this forum. Sadly, I took the time to read every one of your complaints and am quite honestly appauled. Has it ever occurred to any of you that this organization may have multiple locations, nationwide? Just because they use one central phone number to contact potential new hires doesn't mean they're "sketchy." It means that they clearly have a recruiting team who handles their interview schedules, as they are too busy WORKING. Which is smart, when you think about it!

Please, for the sake of the awesome non-profit organizations these companies represent, stop complaining about a phone call. They only called you, because for whatever reason, you need a job and they were kind enough to offer you one!

Grow up. And answer your phone. You never know when someone's trying to help you make something of yourself!

I got a couple of guys who are waiting for some illiterate door-to-door scammer errr I mean "salesman" (hehe) like yourself to show up at our door. Stop by and see if you can "sell" them something. You should know their names first -- one is Mr. Smith and the other is Mr. Wesson.

Again, the same situation with me. I got a call today and was asked to come in for an interview this coming Monday. He told me his boss "Susie", came across my resume on Monster and was very impressed. As my phone was cutting out and I was in my office, I was trying to get as much detail as possible and found no answers, or just plain avoidance. I asked what the position was for (as I am in HR) and he told me it was for a variety of positions. He also told me he would send me a confirmation email that day (which he did) and that they would follow up with a phone call Monday morning? lol. That is when I was like ok, something is up for sure. What is this a doctors office, they probably follow up with a phone call the day of the interview, checking to see if you have read this forum and decided you will not be attending. Any situation where they can not tell you the actual position or explain any other details, is fishy. What they are doing is not illegal but is taking advantage of someone who may be in a vulnerable position, financially.

I swear I went to this place once on  interview once, it was in one of those converted warehouses in Liberty Village.  It was the summer, the windows were cranked wide open and they had no A/C.  Big office, music blaring, young people walking around seemingly busy but a very vague business plan.

These are just young people trying to make it in the business world selling a product someone probably doesn't want door to door.  I felt a little over qualified to work for minimum wages they were offering.  I never called back or was followed up with after the interview.

Now that I've seen the page, there's grammar and punctuation errors and the company seems worried about spam as they put their email address as info (at) www (dot) com.

Look at their privacy policy, it was obviously a cut and paste job from another site. Since when is Ontario a US state?

8. Governing Law
Any claim relating to East Liberty Marketing's web site shall be governed by the laws of the State of Ontario without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

That's what people in business do, figure out ways to make money on your back even if it seems sketchy and unethical.  They aren't selling drugs or sex so what's the big deal really?  If you want to work there, you should just start your own business, save yourself the pressure they're likely to put on you that you can't handle.

The guy who called me was so vague about what the job was about and tried to go directly into setting up an interview with me (stating only that it was a job I applied for on Monster.ca)...when I pressed further about which specific job I actually applied for he said "customer service".  I went along and setup an interview with him (which I am 100% for sure not attending) and he said he would send me a confirmation email regarding the address and other details, which I never received.  He did make sure to verify my email at the end of the conversation though which worries me that it'll now be added to some list I don't want to be on.

They are clearly calling you and giving you as little information as possible just to get you there so they can give you their pitch for a job you are not likely to want.  My boyfriend had a really similar experience to this where he went to an interview for what he thought was a warehouse job...he did very well in the interview and later that day received a call only to be told that all of a sudden the warehouse jobs were filled but that he would be perfect for a door-to-door sales job they had available.

Don't even pick up if you get a call from this # unless that's the type of job you are interested in.  Even if you are, I wouldn't work for such a shady company.

Well after reading this forum im proud to say that today , 12/5/11 at 3:39pm i received my phone call from RedStar Marketing (what losers) , as a interim manager for a more reputable company , communicating with Clients and Customers in order to  mitigate risk and generally provide a better environment , you can clearly tell by cnversating with the "Mysterious woman who fumbles on her words when you ask too much question  lady ", that she herself doesn't know much about her company, and for the type of field she is working in, a  MARKETING firm her communication skills was way below average, how strange :s     , well anyways im going tomorrow for the interview 12:00pm because its my day off, and i love the rain , and of course curiosity , always a need to explore the unexpected ,lol more info 2morrow for those who care .

No. I'm still unemployed.
I'm just telling everyone here my experience going to an interview
and they wouldn't hire me. Because I told them I wasn't looking to do marketing in the long run and this would just be a side thing. I don't know what specific duties their employees do, I'm just going by the little information they gave me at the end.

What I found weird though is that they wouldn't let me keep the resume that I had on me, even though I thought there was no point.

Oh and if it helps, here's a craigslist ad I just found, to show you what their office exactly looks like.
http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/off/2683468995.html

That 1st picture is where the lobby area I had to wait. The opening between the plant and chair, is the elevator. (which is small as hell). They had a flat screen TV in there, playing the Rachel Rae show. And the 4th picture: the hallway with all the rooms; the interviewer's office is exactly from where the picture is being taken from (at the complete end).

I actually went to an interview with them a few weeks ago (Toronto office on Queen St.)
It's a pretty nice and hip office on the 2nd floor of the building. Everybody I saw there were either wearing suits, or dressed business/casual. The lady that interviewed me was nice. Nothing seemed sketchy whatsoever.

My interview was cut short, because I told them I was currently interning at another company, in a completely differently field that I'm looking to get into. They told me they were looking for more career oriented folks, who are looking to stay in the field of marketing for the long run; instead of part-time people treating this as just a job. I've got to give it to them. They respected my time.

+ I've worked for some sketchy companies doing door to door sales and promotions before, and they didn't give a s***, if I had other priorities or if I treated this as a job instead of a career. So these guys definitely have some legitimacy, and don't seem that desperate to hire anyone.

As she sent me on my way, I asked her what the job was. She said they're working on a promotional campaign for a new client of theirs: some environmental organization. From what I remember, you only work Monday-Friday between 1PM and 8PM at their office. I can't really remember if there might be some outside work as well.

Hopefully this helps. Though it would be best for someone that actually works for them, to respond on here.
