I just received the EXACT same email, word for word. Thank goodness I did some research on this before clicking on the link she sent, or giving them any information (beside my phone #, which is an automatic part of my email signature... oh well.)

Hello

Thank you so much for your interest in our opportunity.

I appreciate you contacting us. In case our posting was not clear, some of the responsibilities of this position are as follows:

* You will be answering the phone and taking messages when applicable
* You will be scheduling the company meetings
* Running errands for the company for things such as purchasing supplies and making bank deposits.
* You will be provided with a company car.
* While you are running errands, you will also be given one of our company credit card(s) for all business purchases.

You definitely seem qualified for the position, and more so than the other 16 applicants we received resumes from. I would like to take the next step with you. However, before I am able to schedule a formal meeting, my company will require that you acquire a recent (past 14-21 business days) credit report. We started this because our company had some bad incidents with prior employees taking advantage of having access to a company credit card.

Both myself and the company will prefer it that you use http://bit.ly/fT7mBe to acquire your check as they are offering the check at zero cost to you (unlike other places). We also discovered that their scores always reported back contain the most accurate information, but feel free to use any service you like.

Once you submit all of the required information, they will show your personal report. Please print it out and save it for your records. Please do not email me the entire report, as it will have private content. We can disscuss it when we meet in person. If you have a lower than expected credit score, it will never prevent you from a position with us. I had a fairly low score when I started.

Once your finished please e-mail me your phone number that you can be easily reached, and your availability to arrange an interview.

Personally, I am hoping to fill this position with a new friendly face and am looking forward to your quick response.

Kind Regards,
Michelle P

I responeded to a Craigslist ad for a house/apt for rent and got the same thing.  Craigslist used to be a good local tool but not any longer.

Hello,

First and foremost, thank you for your interest in the apatment.  I have attached some pictures to this email and I am available to show it this week or next if that fits your schedule as well.   Just to give you a little more information about the place, the water and electricity are paid by myself. The security deposit is $200 and can be paid in 2 installments if money is tight. (I know how that can be).

We do allow pets with a $45 security deposit, refundable at move out.  The place also includes a washer and dryer.

I will be happy to show the apartment at an agreed upon time and date but I do require that all applicants and additional renters who will be living in the home complete a credit check to ensure their eligibility.  I have to make sure potential renters are qualified before I show the property.  This ensures neither of us will be wasting our time.

It is okay if you have bad credit (trust me).  I just check to make sure that you don't have multiple evictions on your record. (We won't rent if you have 2 or more evictions on your record)

I also had to recently stop giving out the exact address of rental properties before I am able to show them because last time I did that the place was vandalized. (I will be glad to give you the address right after your reply).  I assure you though that this is a very safe area.  I actually lived in this home for a year (and it is very cozy!).

As soon as you can, please click and go to the secure website link below to complete the  credit report check (takes about 30 seconds).  Once you have complete it, I'll call you once I receive the information from the credit company (very quickly usually).

Credit Check Link: http://www.focuscreditreports.com/

*** Please do not send me your credit report directly.

Once you fill out the report the credit company automatically forwards me your name, email address, phone number, and whether you have had any outstanding evictions in the past 5 years to determine your renter eligibility. This is the only information I am interested in.  This is a soft credit report so it won't touch your FICO score (which is why we work with them).
This process turns some people off, so I completely understand if you decide not to complete it.  In that case, good luck with your home search.  I just want to be honest with you up front about our process, as it helps weed out ineligible renters and scammers and ensure that we place quality tenants in the home.

If eligible you will also be sent an email with my cell number and the apartment's address  so we can set up a time to go see the house and discuss any other questions or concerns you may have.

Thanks for the interest!

- Heather Pratt

Well I won't bother posting the email I got today from HOLLY STEVENS who apparently works for     LUXE GROUP as it is the exact same as all the other ones. I had the wise idea to google every bit of info about this and dropped on this page first. I advise anyone who uses the internet to make sure they do as it has kept me from making several mistakes such as this one.

Hi Everyone,

I got the Holly Stevens post.  I was stupid enough to fall for it, but I filed complaints with the Attorney General, and the credit report people too.  I think they must be trying to drum up bsuiness for them.  I am not sure.
Anyway, I was hoping someone else had been duped and has not had anything happen???  I am so worried that I have compromised my information.  So please, please respond!!

Thank you!

I had the exact same thing happen to me as well. I was skeptical at first but I guess I didn't look at the company close enough. Now I am learning a $50 lesson. For future reference, you should never have to pay to look at your own credit report, not even a dollar. If you go to Annual Credit Report, they will give it to you without charge. To get your FICO score (the 3 digit number) you usually have to pay something around $15. In general I have learned from this scam, always check out a company FULLY before you attempt to give them any sort of personal information. Also, Craigslist may not be the best place to be looking for jobs.

They posted a job on Craigslist for an HR Manager on May 11 - no company information offered.  I sent  my resume in an email on May 12 to:  christiflack33@hotmail.com. I tried to Google the email address, find the name on LinkedIn, etc.  Today I received an email from 'Holly Stevens' (hollystevens@luxe-group.info) with the same request as listed in other replies below.  Except they have converted the 'credit check' link into a tiny url.

I did not go to the link nor did I respond to the email.  I'm filing a complaint with my state's Attorney General office.  I also emailed a complaint to Craigslist to pull the ad.

Some info on employment background checks - no legitimate company should ask you for such personal information PRIOR to a written offer of employment.  NEVER give your SSN, driver's license number, or dates of graduation until AFTER they offer you a position.  Legally, they cannot conduct a background check on you until they have made a binding agreement with you (offer of employment).  Background checks fall under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) legislation protecting you and your personal information.  If a company offers you employment, conducts a credit check, finds something in question, they MUST notify you in writing if they decide to pull the offer based on your credit check.  By law, they must tell you their reason for adverse action AND submit a copy of the report in question to you.  You have 5 business days to respond to the employer and/or clear up the issue in question.  Also, there is no standard in the employment world as to what is a "good credit score" and this is an issue being discussed before Congress lately - that employers should not be able to deny candidates employment b/c of their credit score.  No one can identify or correlate credit score = good/bad employee.

IT IS A SCAM.... I GOT THE SAME EMAIL ....BE AWARE...LUCKILY I USED FREECREDITREPORT.COM TO OBTAIN MY SCORE INSTEAD OF THE ONE THEY SUGGESTED.
THIS IS THE EMAIL THEY SENT ME.....
I appreciate you e-mailing us. In case our posting was not clear, the responsibilities of the position are as follows: you will be answering our main phone and taking messages when applicable, you will work on scheduling the company meetings, and errand running for the company for things such as purchasing supplies and making our bank deposits (you will be provided with a company car). While you are running errands, you will also be given one of our company credit card(s) for all business purchases.

You are extremely qualified for our job opening, and more so than the other 17 people I have received applications from. I want to find an available time to set up the next step with you. However, before I can set up a formal meeting, my company will require that you attain a fairly recent(from the past 10-12 business days) credit report. We, at Vexas Corp, enforce this because our company have unfortunately had a couple bad encounters with former employees exploiting having access to one of the company credit cards.

Both myself and Vexas prefer it if you use http://directfreescore.com to attain your report as they are giving the check at no cost to you(unlike other places). Vexas has also found that their scores always report back the most factual information compared to others.

Once you submit all necessary information, their company will show you your personal report. Then, you will need to email me the reported credit score, a phone number that you can be easily reached, and your availability schedule to schedule an interview.
Please do not email me the complete report, as it will most likely contain private content. If you have a less than desirable credit score, it will never prevent you from employment. Personally, I had a pretty low score when I started here.

If you don't want to complete a recent credit check, unfortunately I will need to contact the second choice.

Honestly, I am hoping to fill this position with a new friendly face and am looking to your quick reply.

Thank you to these various posts.  I also received an email based on my application to a Craigs List ad, and received the exact same message below.  I attempted to research the company, etc since it asked for a credit score - as well as the position was not exactly the one I had applied for based on the description.  All of your feedback prevented me from moving further.  In case it helps others doing internet searches before responding, this is the exact message I received (I removed my name and other personal info):

"Thank you for e-mailing us. In case my post was not extremely clear, the responsibilities of this position are as follows: you will be answering the main phone and taking messages whenever applicable, you will work on scheduling our company meetings, and running errands for us for things such as purchasing office supplies and making bank deposits (you will always be provided with a company car). However, before I can set up an interview, our company requires that you obtain a fairly recent(past 14-21 business days) credit report. We, at Vexas Corp, have made this a standard because we unfortunately had a couple bad experiences with former employees taking advantage of being able to access a company credit card.

I ask you to not email me your entire credit report, as it will most likely contain private information. If you currently have a less than desirable credit score, it does not prevent you from employment. I had a fairly low score whenever I started.

If you do not want to send in a recent credit check, unfortunately Vexas will require that I contact our second choice.

Honestly, I am excited to get this position filled with a new friendly face and am looking to your quick response.

OMFG!! Same thing here, replied to the job offer on craigslist, the responded with the name Vexas Corp, and gave me the same web address to get my credit score... I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one who got scammed. As soon as I submitted info, it came up with an error, and I immediately knew that there was something wrong. I called my bank and cancelled my card. I told them I got scammed and the guy I spoke with said that my bank will help me take care of it, I hope this is true... UGH!! I have been looking for a freakin job since October.... I should've known that the email this "Amy" sent me was too good to be true. I am saving everything I can from this whole ordeal to show my bank when I dispute the charges... I hope everyone who lost money from this can get it back. I wish you all luck,

I too was scamed!  I applyed for a job through craigs list a few days ago, Today I received an email telling me I was the perfect person for the job at this company called Vexas Corp.  However for the company to further considered me they needed my credit scores.  They gave me this web site http://directfreescore.com which when I looked it up it looked ok I even looked up Vexas Corp and its web site look legit also, so I did it, Boy was I Stupid. Per the web site their was only suppose to be a $1.00 charge but was charged $50.00 instead. I have tried calling the contact # 1-888-406-5579 which I got off of the terms of the site and including their support@focuscreditreport.com email address which I have sent an email to trying to get the charges reversed.  Per my cc company since the charge is still a pending charge on my acct I have to wait for it to go through inorder to dispute the charges.  I just hope I can recope the lost. The worst part is now if you go to either web sites they do not exist!  Boy I'm mad!
