This # keeps calling, but doesn't leave a message and there is no one on the other end.  I've attempted to call back, but their phone system has weird options and I can barely understand the operator.

pay your bills, Collector you are a moron!  You have no bills cause your fat mama bought you the van you live in,  now i actually work for a legit collection agency THE DIVISION OF CHILD SUPPORT ENFORCEMENT!
We have MUCH more power then some collection agency and we NEVER treat people the way collector's like you.  I have the ability to actually but people in jail, take there cars, drivers licences, lien property, seize bank accounts etc....
and AGAIN we do not treat people like this collection agency does!  Go get a real job as a collector, loser!

The satute  you mention prevents ANY legal action taken after this period expires. It varies according to state law. So yes there is a point that the collector regardless of current ownership of the account, cannot leagally come after the person.

You're an idiot for working in that company.. Get your damn facts straight some of us pay our bills.. Some of us don't owe s***.. Some of us fell on hardships but regardless of the reason if you are collecting atleast state "this is an attempt to collect" ugh!!

Nonetheless I get calls occasionally and guess what they are always asking for someone different -.- !!

Some of us are lawyers who keep getting calls for clients we had 2 years ago.  Others have lost their jobs and can't afford to pay their bills.  Or they have gotten injured or sick.  Try not being so judgmental next time.  You never know what will happen to you in the future.

I got a call from this, I think people use legit cell phone numbers and place them down to take advantage of the company, so I usually just tell the company such, and that's it.

Your message was long winded. I don't blame the collectors themselves most of the time but I do blame the companies you work for. They encourage less than ethical practices and unfortunately the US government has allowed too many loop holes in the laws as they are written. For instance no collector can call "excessively" but they get around that by calling from different numbers all the time so it looks like they only call 2-3 times a day when it fact you idiots call 12-15 times a day. Also, stop blowing sunshine up your a**. An associates degree does not qualify you as "well educated". If the only job you could get was working as a collector then I think that says it all. Best thing we can do is write down all the calls we get and from which number and what time. Then forward that information to the FCC. They will look into it. Hell just threaten to report them to the FCC and they usually cool it for awhile. Bottom line is laws governing debt in this country protect the consumer for a reason.

I agree with most of what you said....

Yet there is such a thing as the "FAIR DEBT COLLECTIONS ACT"....

Maybe you can check it out to see what collectors can and cannot legally do to get money from a debtor.....

These collectors (if they are for real, and not scammers) - should know this act, and abide by it!!!

I just a got voicemail message from 1-651-457-1130 on my cell phone, and at first I hear a "Hmmm" from a man's voice.... then it switches to a musical instrumental for over a minute. After that time, I hear voices in the background, but no-one asking for anyone.
If they are going to call my cell, I would think that they would at least say SOMETHING.... not just silly instrumentals...
I have no idea why they called or who that are.....
And I got the voicemail at 7:51pm (CST) this evening....
I know I work early and odd hours.... but I thought there was still 9-to-5 type of jobs out there....?

Yes, these people will do whatever it takes to search for relatives or friends of the people who owe the company their working for to collect. If these claims are correct in the first place. But, is it right that they continually harass the people who don't owe them. I wish someone would do something about this mess. It is unfair.
Here's a tip: google the phone number..it gives you a reverse lookup and claims it is a collections company. I do not know how reputable the company. It shows up as RMS - Receivables Management Solutions, Inc. 260 E. Wentworth Ave. West St. Paul, MN 55118. 651-457-1130 office or 1-800-299-8301 and 651-457-3827 fax.
The interesting thing is that if you call them back there's no greeting with company name, "this is Paul how may I help you."
FACTS or LIES ~ Many times these companies pick up old debt(s) from searching peoples credit history of old debt or have bought these at an undisclosed amount for the original company. Then in turn go after the people or person who originally owed that company.  Truth/Facts: They will try to collect full amount when its already been written off by the company they bought it from that's why companies like RMS or others negoiate monies. So, BEWARE cause its a large way to scam people for sure.
Good luck.....I know you want to say how do I know. Because I am a researching and have helped others in the same prediciment that were worried sick with their scare tactics.
If RMS is a reputable then what would make them call people and not be real with name on caller id or when they take incoming calls. It would be like making a call to any business for example walmart- this is paul... I called walmart...so now I'm promoting someone named paul who only works here.

Debt Collector
They called my number pretending to be a friend of Jason. It was a girl with a very sweet voice.  She asked if I knew him.  I said "No" and she said, "Are you sure because Jason gave me his number and this is his number."  This is a debt collection agency using up my precious cell phone minutes and it is irritating.  I just called them back and let them know that I was reporting them to DO NOT CALL registry.  I understand that you shouldn't answer a call from numbers you don't recognize but these debt collection agencies should identify themselves especially since they are trying to be a legitimate agency. Any agency or business that refuses to identify itself over the phone and has an actress call pretending to be a friend of a person who is named Jason and just happens to owe money is not a professional agency.  Collection agencies must honor Do Not Call Lists because they interfere with the livelihood of people that they call by accident....They are soliciting funds at the expense of others so they must govern themselves accordingly.  It is their duty as a legitimate agency to identify themselves and to carefully research numbers to see that they belong to the right person.  I am fed up with calls that I shouldn't be getting because these debt collectors are too stupid to do their research and figure out that Jason gave everyone in town a fake number that happens to be my number. Their lack of research equals harrassment and a diminishing of my cell phone minutes and clogging of my voicemail. These debt collection agencies are acting irresponsibly and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Do what I do. I have a whistle next to the phone. When I continue to get calls from a particularly annoying salesman or bill collector I do this:

I answer the phone and speak very softly. I tell them something like "Leave me alone" and then blow my whistle very hard.

Problem solved!

From the tone and content of your comment, it is obvious that you are one of the deep thinkers that gave us Cheney for 8 years. People are hurting real bad pal, I know you have no empathy, but just remember, God made a full proof system, no one gets out of here alive, and you are going to have to answer for your lack of compassion buddy!
