Glad you investigated and found it is a scam!  ALWAYS tell alleged debt collectors that they must send a debt validation letter to you by MAIL (not fax or email) proving that you actually owe a debt.  Read and learn your rights under the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act).

If they tell you to get a reloadable debit card - they're scammers!  Also, by LAW, any debt collector or alleged law firm has to VALIDATE the debt - they have to send you a debt validation letter which states the original creditor, the amount you owed originally, when the debt was incurred, last payment date on debt and also whether the debt collector is entitled (licensed) to collect said debt in your state!

Since he told you he could not validate the debt, do NOT PAY HIM!  If he calls back, tell him you know he's a scammer since he won't validate the debt and that you have reported him to the FTC, the FBI and also your state's Attorney General (and DO report him).  If a stranger calls you saying you have a debt and won't prove that you owe the debt, then you can ignore them!

I received a phone call from Richard Delgado at 657-201-7705 claiming I owed a debt from 2008 and I needed to get a re-loadable debit card and call him back the next day prepared to pay or the company I owed was suing me.  Made all kinds of threats and promises - if I don't pay the lawsuit will go through, if I pay he can have the company recall the lawsuit, etc.  He was also extremely rude and claimed he couldn't validate the debt.

After a sleepless night, I contacted the company he claimed to represent.  They had absolutely no record of me in their system - EVER!!  She was kind enough to go back to 2002 - no phone number, name, social security number - EVER!!  I am so looking forward to making my next phone call - to Mr. Delgado.  And also filing a report with the Attorney General and any other place I can.

This person scared the crap out of me.  It just so happened I was going thru a very bad time in my life in 2008 and thought it was possible I owed money somewhere.  But to threaten a lawsuit, turning it over to the DA in my county - who I work with on a regular basis, was terrifying!

So glad I found this site!

So what has happened since you posted this?  I received a call from him yesterday, he said he could not validate this debt but I should get a re-loadable debit card and call him back by 1:30 today.  What do I do now?

OMG... I am so glad that I decided to look this number and that Richard Delgado person up and stumbled across this site...I have been receiving calls from the same number 657-216-0008 and also at my stepmothers home who I've never used as a reference...This guy also told her as well as stated on my voicemail that they were trying to serve legal documents for a "civil case" here in the city that I live and work in so I contacted the superior courts of los angeles county to see if there were any civil claims that i was apart of and didn't know or if someone or company had filed a case against me they answered no to both questions... I also called all three credit bureaus to get copies of my credit report, as i do annually (its free once a year) and there were no pending judgments...I learned that the closer a creditor gets to not being able to collect a debt or sue (statute of limitations is 4 to 10yrs in CA depending on the type of debt) that they will start to call and try to collect...the best thing we as consumers can do is not make any contact with them acknowledging the debt which in turn can start the clock over keeping said debt on your credit report another however many years.  Be informed and send this letter advising them to stop calling you:

First, you Google FDCPA and visit the FTCs website. Know your rights.
Then you tell him you're aware of your rights as a consumer under the FDCPA. Then you DEMAND a full, complete and legitimate letter of validation, as outlined and required by federal law. By mail, not e-mail or fax. You demand he identify himself, his company, their valid address & phone number. Tell him that his refusal to provide you with this info. & a validation letter constitute violations of federal law.
He will bluster & BS and his blood pressure will skyrocket. Ignore him. Tell him he will adhere to the FDCPA or his hoped for commission will never come from your case.
His tactics have already proven that he is an outright fraud or a low-life 3rd party collector in blatant violation of federal law. Tell him all your calls at home and work will now be logged and recorded. Pay him NOTHING! Tell him "No proof..No Money! EVER!"
Be Safe. Be Aware.

Richard called my elderly grandmother and told her he was looking for me to serve me with a summons and that I was being sued by a payday loan company I had issues with in 2009.  I have never given my grandmothers info out as a reference etc and she is not even related to me by blood so how they got her number is beyond me.  At first he said the amount I owed was non negotiable then towards the end of our conversation he said he could 'recall' the case and lower the amount if I decide to settle out of court.  When I said I rather settle out of court he was very eager to receive a payment and or date I can pay it today.  He told me to "call my dad and see if he can call Richard and make a payment over the phone with a credit or debit card" Im 30 years old, calling my dad isn't gonna do anything at this point. It felt really shady and fraudulent so I decided to look up the name of the firm (Jordan & Associates) and sure enough I find this page with everyones stories and situations very similar to mine. What do I do now?

just received a similar call from Mr. Richard Delgado who spoke to my assistant stating that there was a complaint.  He gave a complaint number and stated that he couldn't leave a message for me.  I called back and he was very quick to say "I'm on the phone with an attorney" I'll call you back in 15 minutes.  We'll see if he calls back.

I got a call from someone telling my supervisor that they needed to talk to me immediately because he had court papers for a lawsuit.  Got on the phone and this guy told me they had sealed court documents that have been undeliverable...blah blah.  Could not tell me what for but that I had to call Jordan and Associates and ask for Henry Stuart.  He gave me a case number too.  I was freaked out so my husband called and they claim I have debt on a Capitol One card of 2800.00.  Back in 2002 mind you.  What took them so long to find me!  I have worked at the same  place for 13 years, and they are just finding me??  Well the guy was shady, lots of talking in the background and he was quite nasty.  My husband told him he would discuss it with me and he has to call him back mon before noon.  This is b.s. right?  Should we just ignore it, or call back and tell him this is bogus, it is illegal to tell my boss that there are papers that need to be served against me, that the statute of limitations is 6 years in my state etc..  The number was 657-229-4884, which I found out is a cell phone #.

Got a call from someone claiming they were representing Jordan & Associates, a legal firm and that they needed to know if I would be home during a certain time so they can serve court documents because I was being sued. I googled and found NOOO Jordan & Associates Law Firm anywhere in the US. Second of all, I worked for a law firm for many years Process Servers NEVER call and tell you they are coming. This is totally bogus.

Received call from a guy claiming to be from QSS representing Jordan and Associates, a law firm.  Caller said they were trying to serve with "legal documents" but I needed to call this number before.  This is the second call from QSS.  First time around, caller told me I needed to call 714-584-7251.

I have submitted a complaint to my Attorney General's Office and plan to submit another complaint to the FTC.
