Debt Collector
Their tactics are classic!  People, do NOT fall for their fear tactics.  Believe me I was almost fooled.  Think about it, someone calls your job and of course you may be a bit embarrassed and that's what the collection company wants you to feel.

So what do many do? They rush to pay someone over the phone who never provided you proof that you own the debt.  The truth is you may indeed own it, but the law clearly states with the Federal Trade Commission that a bill collector MUST give you proof of said debt.

If they say something like: You have until 3pm, or whatever time. it's a scare tactic. If they say: we're calling from "The Law Processing Center" it's a scare tactic. LOL  Here's one where I laughed so hard on the phone they hung up on me. "Let us know if there's a different address where we will be sending a uniformed officer to serve you."  LOLOLOLOL!!!!

Bottom line folks is this: Demand they send you a copy of whatever they say the debt is from. EVEN if you know its yours.  They are the ones that must provide the burden of proof. not you. Tell them to send said proof to the home address they have on file. If they claim not to have your address, that's another clue. hang up and ignore the call backs of threats.

Hope this helps you.

What a riot!  This fake company comes off as if they are a legitimate company.  While they admitted they are just a Debt Buying Service, people DO NOT get conned into giving them ANY payment information via the phone.  They refuse to give you their company name.  (CLUE)

They will harass you by stating you're about to get served legal / court papers.  It's a SCARE tactic.  I used to be a bill collector and said the same thing.  They are supposed to adhere to the Fair Debt Collectors Practices Act. (FDCPA)  People please read the link from the FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre18.shtm

Look at all of the bullet items to ensure you're protected.  Here's my favorite you should memorize:

QUESTION: What does the debt collector have to tell me about the debt?

FTC ANSWER:  Every collector must send you a written ?validation notice? telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don?t think you owe the money.

Good For You!! Don't you just love how they claim they can't validate the debt until after you've given them some type of payment? They're rude, nasty, and insult your intelligence.  I asked one of these nasty b*****s "If I called you up out of the blue and told you that you owed me money, would you pay me without my showing you some kind of proof first? Of course not! Then why would you think I'm going to send you money until you prove to me I actually owe you this debt?"  That shut her up quick.  After that they either hang up, or they get even nastier and try to talk over you.   As far as their being legitimate - I doubt it.  Legitimate business people do not raise their voices, do not demand that you beg money from friends and family, do not lie, and certainly don't threaten legal action prior to validating the debt.  Check your state's statute of limitations.  In all probability you are no longer legally responsible for this debt, it's past the SOL.  These are probably bottom feeders who purchase charge offs for pennies on the dollar and then tack on exorbitant "collection" fees.  It's commendable that you want to pay this, but the company you originally owed the money to charged it off years ago.  If you deal with these low lifes you just encourage them to hurt more people, and you surely are NOT helping our economy.  I wouldn't give them a cent just based on their rudeness and lies. These places need to be shut down, not encouraged.  I look forward to the day this type of business is illegal in our country.

I've had two different phone calls from these people...I think they are legitimate debt collectors but they are definitely slimey.  One was the process server asking me to call a guy named David and the other was a process server asking me to call Mary Lloyd.  My mother would not give out my phone number so he called her back and yelled at her saying he knew where I worked and I would be served at my place of employment.  FUNNY, since I have been a stay at home mom for the last FIVE years!  These jackholes are trying to charge me 2k+ for a 300 credit card I had charged off in College.  I told her there was no way I could give her 2 thousand today and she says well in these cases people usually ask their friends or family to keep it from becoming a legal matter.  I said if you notice there aren't alot of people out there with an extra 2 grand right now.  She said "oh don't give me that recession garbage!  I see people at sporting events, I see people at shopping malls.  People have money to spend!!!!"  Apparently she missed the homeless people on the way to work.

I would gladly pay the 300 now, heck even double.  But to be a complete a** to me and my mother and LIE about being served (which is illegal by the way), and then expect '2 grand to be wired?  The lady said she couldn't email me a written verification of the debt until I had the money in hand ready to pay. "as i'm sure you can understand why".  NO i don't understand why.  Whether they are legit or not, they are using slimeball illegal tactics, and can be sued.  I encourage you all to report them to FTC and yes record these condescending conversations!

I just received a call from the same number and the same caller's name. He left a message for me to call him. I googled the # and got this post. So, I work for a radio station. I went into the production room, called him back and recored the conservation. He ask if i was willing to pay the "debt" I replied "no" he said ok and they would proceed with legal actions, and he hung up the phone. I am waiting for him to call back and leave me another mssage. I will ALWAYS record the calls, and as soon as I am threatened with jail or fnes, I will be sending the recorded messages to the FTC.

I had seen on another site this guy used the name Miles Davis, not Miles Anthony and not from the previous post. This caller is saying he's from a company called Johnson and Associates, so he's using a different company name from when he called the previous person. His direct line is 657-859-4567 but the company number is 949 667 2771.

I've been getting calls from a Miles Anthony claiming I owe over $800 from a 2005/6 debt. He told me I was gonna be served with papers, and sued for this outstanding debt. He told me I could make a payment with a debit card and it would be settled. If I didn't pay I would have to go to court and pay attorney fees on top of the outstanding debt I supposedly owe. I'm not sure what to believe or how to validate this. This "debt" doesn't show up on my credit report. The guy new my social security number. I will call him back tomorrow and ask for some type of proof or a validation of debt. If this is a scam this is super shady and there will be a lot of unsuspecting individuals who get taken advantage of. It's super suspicious that when he called me his last name is Anthony and not Davis like in the previous post. You think he would be smart enough to use a different first name too.

I also received a call from this number (657-859-4567). He claimed his name was Miles Anthony. The first call I got, they left a message saying it was Legal Support Services. When I called back, he said he was with the office of AVA. He was claiming that I had a debt for $1688 and if I did not pay it immediately with a debit card that I would be summoned to court, face a $1000 fine, 6 months jail time, and all court cost. When I asked for some form of documentation, he said he would email it to me, but never did. I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and I have also notified my local police department. If the calls do not stop, I will be pressing harrassment charges as my number is on the National No Call List. So, whatever you do, don't pay attention to these idiots. They are scam artists. Report them to the Federal Trade Commission and to your local police as soon as they contact you.

For all to see...Any contanct with a third party about any debt is against the law period. Also False or misleading representations of any kind is against the law. All of your rights are protected. Ifyou want to read more check out the Fair Credit Reporting Act. You can Google it. Knowing what is in there has helped me and I am sure that it will do the same for all of you.

Debt Collector
First I got a call last week at my job. The caller asked a co-worker to be transferred to me, which he was. When I answered the phone, the caller, Ron Slade, acted very confused and said that he had asked to speak with my direct supervisor. He said that as a courtesy, since he had been mistakenly put in direct contact with me, he can give me one hour's time to contact the acting attorney on the matter to discuss an alternative location in which I am to be served legal papers by a uniformed officer. I called 657-859-4567 and spoke with a Paul Allen. Instead of asking for an alternate location, he said that I can wire money to an account to "voluntarily" take care of the debt with a settlement. He said that I can name a figure and he would, while I waited on the phone, bring this settlement figure to "the company." At this point in time, I was scared and gave him a figure. He kept me on the line and came back and said that they would accept, but that I had to wire money within an hour or the settlement was void. After consulting with a friend, who advised me not to send any money, I did not comply with "the agreement." Paul Allen called my direct work line and left a voicemail that he would retract the settlement and tell the "processor" to procee with issuing the court documents. I called him back later and, long story short, asked for something in writing to ensure that this transaction was legitimate. I received nothing but another voicemail from him the following day, stating that he would have a uniformed officer deliver the legal papers to my job on Monday. Today, instead of that, another call from Ron Slade came to my place of employment. He was transferred to my manager's voicemail. She informed me of this and I told her what was going on. We completed a call to Ron Slade, who answered the phone as "Sheriff's dispatch." After my manager refused to give him any information and told him that documents could not be delivered to our building and that she would not transfer his call to my direct line, he hung up on her. He immediately called my cell phone at that point and left a voicemail on my direct line at work. He said that I can call him back directly to give an alternate address for the papers to be served or call Paul Allen. I called him back and informed him that we can set up a different address for the documents to be delivered. He did not want to take this address from me and continued to try to get me to call Paul Allen. I told him that this is what happened previously and no one wanted that information. I was only asked to wire money. He continued speaking over me and stating that I could call Paul Allen within 30 minutes as, "it sounded like there was miscommunication." I said that there was not and I wanted something in writing. I told him that I would give him and alternate address and set up an appointment for the papers to be served. He said that I would need to be on record that I would be at the alternate address between 8-4pm. He also said that I would have to call Paul Allen to do this. I asked him why he was calling from an unpublished number (469-893-5660) in Texas, when he is representing the sheriff in Hennepin County, MN. He started to talk over me again and insisted that I needed to call Paul Allen. Almost immediately after this call, Paul Allen called my cell phone. After much research and looking into the comments that everyone has written here and other sites, I am certain that this is a scam. However, I do not know how to make them stop calling my job and speaking to managers and coworkers. Has anyone had the same situation in which they will not stop calling your employer? Any help or advice would be much appreciate...

This company changes their name and business info every so often.  They buy OLD Old collection accounts for pennies on the dollar that other companies have already written off.

They have no legal way to collect the money, so they use illegal tactics to try and get any money.

I've gotten calls before from this same person, but he uses a different name and company.  The story is usually the same.  This time he called himself Ron Slade from Legal Claims Services, working for attorney Paul Allen.  He left a voicemail, attempting to sound all formal saying, "This is for the residents of (my address) OR (my name mispronounced).  You have 24 hours to call us back to make arrangements for receipt of papers for your upcoming court case." and blah blah blah.
This is a SCAM.  The company gambles and preys on the ignorant and innocent.  They were trying to collect on a debt that did not, nor ever, existed.
Ran all 3 credit reports and nada...

Got a call fromthis number. Ihad requested a debt validation from them but they refuse to provide. They are bottom feeder collection agents. They even claim to have look into my credit file and seen my debts. I think that is illegal without my permission. This debt is from an old account that statue of limitations has expired. Whatever you do, don't pay a dime without receiving a validation letter from any collection agency.
