ALWAYS record every conversation with debt collectors. Inform them that you are recording., if they don't like it they can hang up and stop calling. Force them to abide by the FDCPA. Demand a letter of validation for any alleged debt. Refuse to pay any debt that is past the statute of limitation. If no debt is legally owned send certified letter to cease and desist contacting you. Research the FDCPA. File complaints against them with your state attorney and their state attorney, file complaints with the FTC. Sue for any violation of the FDCPA. Lawyers will take these cases on commission.

Received call from this number stating that I owe $3,000. Looked into this company and it seems fraud. They will have to serve me before I pay anything.

I have been getting calls from people like them and today I received a call from a guy name Alex at work. I guess I lost twice because I have gone through two incidents like this they took my money from the bank and I never got a letter from the creditor saying the account has been paid. I am not going through this again. I will ignore them until I get a letter from them then go old school and if I have to pay I will do the old fashion way buy regular mail and money orders and they have to wait to get their money. How can you stop this people from calling you at work. I am stick and tired of this.

This joker Kevin King made all kinds false remarks, and illegal statements.  My lawyer sent a cease and desist letter.   I will not tolerate this companies harassment.  Said I was being sued, gave the wrong SS#...  For a debt I never had.

I just found out that this "Mr. King" has been threatening MY clients who are currently in a debt relief program with the company I work for.

I want you all to know that NO ONE has the right to threaten you in this manner! If anyone calls stating you owe them a debt, tell them to invoice you. Don't give them your address because apparently, they already know everything about you. NEVER give anyone your credit card number no matter how threatening they appear to be! Send out a CEASE & DESIST letter as "Victim of Fraud and Scam" stated.

Don't be a victim to cowards like "Mr. King". Fight back!

I am so glad that I read these.  A John Allen phoned my home today and spoke with my mom stating that I was going to be served anyday...blah..blah..blah.  What he didn'y know is that I worked in the County Courthouse and knew better.  First off, no one would call you personally..they would send a letter.  Secondly, if they were a process server, they would be contacting you from the county that you live in.  And if they did get to the point of serving you, they would not even bother to contact you by phone to inform you.  Also, most case #'s include your name and date filed.  I agree with what has been said on this blog...ask them to send you a letter, ask for their business information and licensing # (I am sure they will not know what you are talking about).  Until you receive something in the mail, just ignore them.  By law, you cannot be served unless you have first been informed by mail of the credit owed.  If they get nasty with you, tell them you are filing harrassment charges and hang up...than keep a log of all of the times and dates that they have contacted you, your work, family, etc.  *also too...there are new laws prohibiting them from contacting your employer.

I don't think I am going to be as lucky as the rest of you-I believe I may have messed up big time.
The man I talked to said his name was Jason Eberhard. Stated my husband had a credit card and the bill was 2500.00 and something and that we needed to settle. First he said he needed 501. and then 100. dollars down today. then we kept talking and he said we could settle for $300. paid by August 31. Then in two payments of 150.00.   WOW I don't know what to do now that I have read all these except to cancel the payments at the bank so they don't come out of my account?????
S*** this sucks if they are scammers--cause I got taken.

Re:

Dear W.P. Group and Associates,

You are hereby notified under provisions of Public Laws 95-109 and 99-361, also known as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, that your services are no longer desired.

You and your organization must CEASE & DESIST all communication with me, my place of employment, as well as my family and friends, in relation to this and all other alleged debts you claim I owe. Failure to comply with this law will result in my immediately filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, the California Attorney General's office, and the American Collectors Association.  I will pursue all criminal and civil claims against you and your company.

Let this letter also serve as your warning that I may utilize telephone recording devices in order to document any telephone conversations that we may have in the future.
Furthermore, if any negative information is placed on my credit bureau reports by your agency after receipt of this notice, this will cause me to file suit against you and your organization, both personally and corporately, to seek any and all legal remedies available to me by law.

Since it is my policy neither to recognize nor deal with collection agencies, I will settle this account with the original creditor.

Give this matter the attention it deserves!

I think this is a company named RFA or RF & A.  they do and say this kind of bs.  if you get your credit report for free from the ftc, you can check on the same date they called and therewill be the name of a company that pulled your credit report.  rfa is at 501 n golden circle drive in santa ana ca/orange county.  they are known to fake caller id so it looks like the police or some other authorityies are calling u - but its really them.  they are zombie debt collectors.  you don't have to pay them a nickle unless they send you a debt validation letter.  they never will.

check out this other phone numbers for them:  866-764-9779

no your rights - go to ftc.gov

I got a phone call first from a guy claiming he was a county process server and he had papers to serve me with a civil suit,it was on my answering machine, so I immediately called the number they claimed was an attorney, which was the 657-859-4717 number, I talked to some man I cannot remember his name, he said I had a credit card back in 1995 and I owed him $10,510.00 and they wanted the money immediately! I informed him that I did not have the money, so he said I could settle for 1500 dollars, which I did not have, then he said I had to give him 1000 dollars by 5 0'clock today or they would file charges against me, so I said I don't have 1000 dollars, so he wanted a credit card or debit card number which of course I refused to give him, then he said if I didn't have a credit or debit card, he would meet me somewhere and I would have to give him 1000 in cash, which of course I knew was not legal, so I told him I had to talk to my attorney. he said no you have to give me an answer right now, so I said I have the right to legal advice, then he said just give him 500 dollars by 5 0'clock, then it went to 250 dollars, needless to say we got into a shouting match and he hung up on me.Then my husband called him back and he said they already filed the charges and they know where I live, my social security number and they could take my house and cars so my husband said we will see you in court, I am printing this out in case I have to go to court to show a lot of people are being contacted by this company and it is the same story.

I got a voicemail from Alexis Cruz, company name was not given nor was the reason for the call. All she did was threaten me & my husband with sending our case to the Attorney General's as she believed my husband and I did "this intentionally." I have no idea what this is about but I guess she'll have to contact our bankruptcy lawyer to discuss it.

call your local courthouse - Check YOURSELF to see if anyone has filed a lawsuit against you. Probably not - this is an illegal collection tactic designed to cause panic so you will pay them.

Problem is - THEY HAVE NOT PROVEN THAT A DEBT EXISTS!

the BURDEN OF PROOF is on the collector to prove they have a valid debt and they are REQUIRED BY LAW to allow you dispute it.

I got the call.....My ex apparently was involved in a civil law suit due to charges on a credit card, leading to theft, larceny, breach of contract, blah blah.  He apparently had this card while we were married, I was listed as an authorized user, and also involved in said law suit as my State is community of property.  He was thankful that I responded to the voicemail and due to my sincerity he would delay the summons which was scheduled to take place at my work today.  He then mentioned that if I wanted to be removed from this law suit, I would have to have my ex remove me or I could pay my 50% portion and automatically be removed.  When I said that I would need something in writing and would he please repeat his firms name, he got short and said he had already told me that information and it seems I would prefer to be served.  I told him I'd call back and hung up.  I will not be calling back.  It all seemed very real as my ex had got himself in financial trouble, so very easy for someone to get scammed!!!!

I got a call from this number late yesterday afternoon.  A gentleman named "Ernie"  left a voice mail and told me that I needed to call this number, his personal cell number, to verify some information before it went to the clerk's office.  It is coming out of Orange County, California, so I"m assuming that it is some sort of scam or a collection agency trying to scare people about being served papers or some such tactics.  I'm not going to call him back.
