Hi, I'm a student at Northwest and I live in Maryville. I received a call from this number tonight around 7 pm when I was unable to answer the phone. There was no message left. I called the number back twice around 8:30 pm, but both times it just rang and rang. Reading the other posts about this number is strange. Who is the caller and why dont they leave a message?

Strange story about this, about a week ago, 8pm on a Tuesday night, this number shows up on my caller ID, I answer, it's a college girl asking for my mother.  This stranger knew my mothers name.  I was blindsided, and replied, "Wrong number, this is actually her daughter." I asked who she was, she tnever told me her name, but did tell me she was trying to get ahold of my mother, because my mom "was a parent of a student at Northwest".  She said my name, mispronounced it, and was assuming I was male (i'm a female with a male name).  I told her that was me, and snidely made a remark, "Chicky, I'm almost 30 years old, are you calling my mommy to try and get me in trouble because I skipped a class?"  She nervously chuckled, I could hear people in the background, like an office type setting, and she quickly asked how she could get ahold of my mother.  I made some crass remarks to her, basically telling her to cram it, and hung up.  This girl knows my name, that i'm a student, and my mother's name.  I think I put my mom down as an incase of emergency, that's the only way she'd know my mom's name. Anyways, she never contacted my mom, I shrugged it off as either a prank or a fundraising thing, but the girl wouldn't tell me why she needed my mom's number.  
About 4 days later I was talking to a campus police officer, and I had mentioned this chick calling me. I showed him my phone, the number (660-582-2630), and was wondering how/why some unknown chick was calling for my mom, who isn't an alumni btw.  Strangest thing, the officer looks at my phone and says, "this is impossible, that number is my direct line to my office on campus, I wasn't working Tuesday night and i'm the only one who has access to that phone line".  He said he'd bring it up with his superior and get back to me.  I haven't heard anything about it since, If i call the number, or if my husband calls from his #, it just keeps ringing.  My guess is either 1) it's a general number that you need an extension to get ahold of anyone if it's a number on campus, or 2) SCAM.  I heard that you can clone numbers on the internet now, that people can use their phones and have some way of changing their number that shows up on caller id to whatever they want.  So someone's using a NWMSU number to scam and get information from people.  IDK, but it was 2 nights before some huge football game that Northwest was in, so maybe it was some idiot trying to raise money for that kind of stuff.  But why not tell me the reason for the call?

I have read all over the Internet this number is NOT associated to northwest. If someone from this number calls do not give personal information. Tell th you will call either admissions with the missing info or will send a donation thru the website directly.

got a call from this number too... and looking at all the post maybe if it is the school trying to get money for scholarships they need to leave something of that sorts on an answering machine... when people call back the number and get a ringing phone that wierds- people out and gets them worried if they happen to have kids that go to that school or live in that town... because it could be a jail number!!!... not cool NWMSU!!!

I've had two calls from this number this week.  I went to school at Northwest Missouri State, and like someone else said, I remember campus numbers only being 562s.  This caller never leaves a message.  The very few people I know in Maryville say it's not them.  If it were the alumni association, I'd think they wouldn't call on a Sunday night and would likely leave a message at least!  Great tips here.  I haven't called back.

This is not a number from the financial aide office. All campus offices have a 562- number, not a 582 number. When I googled the number it actually showed me a name which I did not recognize. I suppose it could at some point have been connected to the University for temporary use for a "phone-a-thon". The purpose of the "phone-a-thons" are to request support for scholarship giving or support for projects or programs that alumni might support for the benefit of current students and often are programs/projects that contributors have appreciated themselves. I look at it as an opportunity to give back to NW--when I can.

The caller ID comes up Maryville University..........That IS NOT NWMSU...scammer of some sort.

This number called my best friend and left a voicemail stating she worked with social services and never received my daughters SS#. When I called it back I got a busy signal and then it continuously rang. I would say it's a scam!

Totally weird if it's Northwest Missouri... My dad and brother went to school there, but I never did so I can't figure out how they would have my number!

I have now joined the club.   missed call and when tried to call back.......rings as long as you let it go without an answer..  no answer machine which is 2x wierd.   Saw that some speculate it is NWMU students calling for money!

It's the financial aid office at NWMSU

I got a call from this number on Oct. 1 around 6:30pm. I went to NWMSU but I know that it is not a university number. It is from off campus. I am not calling it back. It is probably some college idiot.

I have been called on two different occasions, and both of them have been at night between 7:30pm and 8:30.  I knew right away what town the number was from because I went to Maryville, MO to college, but I can't figure out who would be trying to call me.  As mentioned above when I try to call back it just rings and rings.

So that number has called me 3 different times and whenever I call back it just rings and rings. So I googled it and I have and address and 3 different names for that address. It said that the caller lives in Maryville Missouri. This is really weird.

My call was missed too, called back and it just kept ringing, wierd.
