I got a call from this number saying there were many cases of missing children each year. She said they were in my neighborhood and wanted to come by and deliver some "kits" to help protect my children. I said no thanks and hung up the first time. An hour later a man called from this number with the same line. I told him I didn't have kids. I knew there was something strange about the call, so I googled this number. The caller ID said "skype caller."

Just received a call from this number and did not answer it because I did not recognize the number

I GOT A CALL FROM 661-748-0240 AND I PICKED UP AND IT WAS A PRANK CALLS ASKING MY BRA SIZE I HUNG UP AND THEY CALLED BACK ASKING FOR AN ANSWER AND I TOLD THEM I WAS CALLING THE POLICE AND HUNG UP AND THEY CALLED BACK AND CALLED ME "A PIECE OF SHET" AND I DID CALL THE POLICE AND THEY ARE INVESTIGATING

It appears someone in India who deals with Microsoft account holders is behind these scam calls. I also recently installed Microsoft Defender, and the calls started coming within a week. It is definitely a skype number, and although the area code is assigned to CA - that doesn't mean that's where the call is originating from. Skype assigns calls to various locations regardless of where the actual call is being made. I knew it was a scam because of the time the call was made to me - 9:30pm. Businesses  are not allowed to cold call people after 9pm in the USA.

You may not be on any website yet but as soon as you register with any of our lovely government agencies they sell your name, number, address etc.  THIS IS OUR OWN GOVERNMENT SELLING US OUT ONCE AGAIN!

Sounds like a phishing scam to me. I've received calls like this. Microsoft would NEVER call people on the phone with this message.

unknown caller with this number 661-748-0240, said in Palmdale area. Called and hung up. I just cancelled my landline because of harassing calls like this - now it's happening on my cell, too?

when I saw Skype thought it was a relative, so picked up.  caller identified himself as Microsoft tech.   Knew it was a scam 1) indian accent, 2) Microsoft doesn't have my phone number (dah).  immed blocked future calls and now know not to pick up on any incoming skypes.   Don't fall for the fast and smooth talking creeps ......

Calling asking for owner of business and when he would be in.  Would not leave any info.  When called back said it was a skype number

This number first called last night around dinner.  I thought it was one of my son's friends because they left a voicemail, sounded like a teenager playing a prank and he said " I like cookies".  I didn't think much of it.  I got another call at 10 pm, again sounded like a teenager, but this time didn't disguise their voice and said sorry I have the wrong number.  I then continued to receive 8 more phone calls in the middle of the night, 3 more during the day and one tonight.  I finally found if using an iphone and you click on the i in the recent call list next to the number you can block the user.  That's the best you can do.  Skpe doesn't have a way to report it.

I received an unsolicited email from Apiary Fund.  They're in Utah, yet the CallerID came up as a local area code, so they're trying to hide something clearly.  Next, they called me at the 661 number.  Their spiel is, for a small nominal fee of over $1,000, you get training in ForEx trading, with a little money in a trading account with which to trade.  You get to use their screens and so on.  After the initial up-front cost, you owe $97/month to continue.  I don't know how well you have to trade with their money to be allowed to continue, but they don't seem too picky about who they bring on.  A real prop trading firm would look at dozens of resumés before hiring someone.  The proportion of profits you initially get to keep is a tad high, too--over 50%.  So somehow they offer you this job for over $1,000, without having to submit a resumé, without getting good grades at an Ivy school, etc..  Google the keywords Apiary Fund BBB.

I just made a call over Skype to a friend of mine and she said she almost didn't answer because it appeared as a California call. I often use Skype, mainly video calls, so I called my own phone number to see what appears on the caller ID. This number registered as my caller ID. Reading all the above information I am really concerned. Will contact Skype and start from there. I made no calls to anyone other then to handfull of people in my phone book.
Does any one of you have a Facebook account and uses SKYPE for video calling? I had FB problrms that started after I connected to a FB friend using their Skype link.

This is the number I get when my father calls when he's abroad. I just wanted to let you know in case you are expecting a call from abroad and don't think it's a scammer. I was just checking out this number because I was wondering if it was used exclusively by Skype.

I am a freelancer and do PR. I often call folks using Skype for business, and this is the number that shows up on my recipients' phone when I call. So please be aware that, although many folks may be using Skype to conduct fraudulent activity, not everyone does. :)

Said he was from Richmond VA needing emergency child care for his 20 year old son from 12 noon to midnight EVERYDAY. He said he got my number off a CRAIGSLIST AD.  Number on caller ID said "California".  Man sounded like a 25 yr old African desperately wanting to keep me on the line.  He absolutely did not WANT ME TO HANG UP.  I hung up while he was still taking. Even after I explained that I was in Utah. He even asked me if I knew anyone in Virginia who could help him out. I hung up. Calling redial....message said it was a SKYPE user.

I got a call from 661-748-0240 yesterday at 5:24 PM Eastern Time. The caller ID showed 'Skype Caller'. I answered and the person on the other end (sounded like a early teens kid...) asked me if he could date my daughter. I don't have a daughter so I stated he had the wrong number. He said that he had the right number, said I had a beautiful daughter named Clara. I again told him he had the wrong number. He said again that he had the correct number and that 'Clara' gave it to him. I told him that this Clara gave him the wrong number and hung up. I got a call right back and told him to quit calling me because he had the wrong number and he was about to say something but I hung up. I got a call right back again from 661-748-0242. I picked up and told him I was gonna block his number. He told me to listen up but I interrupted and told him I was going to call my service provider to trace him. He hung up, and didn't call back until today. He was once again, asking for a 'Clara.' I told him to recall what I had said the day prior before calling again.

THIS IS A SHARED NUMBER USED BY SKYPE. Not all calls with this caller ID are scams. Some are from regular, normal people who have purchased "Skype Minutes" to make outgoing calls from their computers but have not also purchased a Skype Phone number.

In other words, this number is recycled by Skype and used by MANY, MANY different Skype users. Some are legit, some are SCAMS

This person called my home phone first and then my cell phone right after. Yelling s*** and screaming in the background. Sounded like a group of drunk children. First was at 9:11PM After my kids were already in bed and asleep, then at 4:41 AM While myself and all my kids were asleep. The phone woke them up both times. There really needs to be a simple way to see what skype account is being used to harrass others.... I'd like to know who feels the need to wake my 5 kids up 4:30 AM and why.

If you receive a call from them soliciting a donation, it is most likely because you have donated to another Charity, which in turn, either donates to this group as well, or has an aligned partnership with this group.

This number hasn't contacted me, but a friend of mine.  My friend was contacting someone who claimed to be a British girl named Penelope.  To me, this didn't make sense because the email address was elenakorst@yahoo.com.  "Penelope" keeps asking for money because she says she wants to visit America from Russia. This number called his phone and left a voice message from the number (661) 748-0240.  It is, as everyone else said, a Skype number.  With the area code from Palmdale California.  From what I hear this person's name is Michael Walton, If anyone else has information on this person, suffered from a similar case, or has had any encounter with the email provided please share your story and be safe.

Just wired $2,000 via Western Union to protect computer, hope its legit

This number is the caller ID of someone using Skype. Every call from this number is a Skype phone call.

And I'm sorry, but that Microsoft call was not legit.

Got the "I'm from Microsoft support and we are getting error messages from your PC". He wanted me to go to "www,fastsupport.com" probably to initiate a remote session at which time I hung up. The indian fellow called back again at which time I informed him to not call this number again. He began cursing at me quite colorfully (maybe he WAS from Microsoft support  :-)   ). I told him that I knew is was a scan and he was a thief and hung up. No further calls received..

fake call from someone pretending to be from Microsoft claiming that my computer is infected with a virus. I hang up on them before the speel goes much further.
