Yeah my name is james, sure more like rashad. I knew something was not right. So I sent him a text back telling him I knew about him. Never heard his mouth again

I also posted an item on craiglist (couch), in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He texted me and offered the certified bank check spiel, just like he did with everyone else.  I told him cash only, and he gave some explanation about his work schedule.  I told him no again, that we only do cash and in person transactions.  I then googled the phone number, and found this forum.  I asked him not to contact me again and told him I was aware that he was trying to scam me.

Thank you everyone for reporting these people.  It helps the rest of us identify and avoid scams or sketchy situations.

 He sent me a Phony Cashiers Check on Saturday morning drawn on BB&T Bank...They are closed on Saturday so you can't verify authenticity .. he suggests an independent check cashing store...why does law enforcement not round these scammers up ..

I knew this was a scam, was selling a scooter on craigslist and offered to overnight check , I was asking 350 and got a check for 1700 and he expected me to cash it. I dropped the bomb on him that I knew it was a scam and purmously waisted his time. He's threatened to come to the address I had the check sent twhich is an Indiana prison officers housing unit, and sent him a picture of my badge. Sent that bi*** running.  Check is made out from some cancer hope foundation, sick. If you cash these checks playing ignorance you will be charged with fraud.

I posted on craigslist and within the hour got this text:

"I saw your ad on craigslist now,Kuskee by Murray Mower for Sale - $300 (Leo,IN) ..i hope the condition is as described ? also am OK with the prices and if a certified bank check will be good for u to make payment by having it in the mail via next day air and check will clear before picking it up."

When I asked why he wanted a mower from indiana when he is from mississippi, he replied:

"I got some other items i had purchased already from another seller around your location which all will be picked together at once but that's gonna be after when check clears."

He then asked for my name and address to send the check.

Yada yada yada i kept toying with him. To his credit, he was persistent in the scam.

the check could clear at first. you would get the cash and it would later bounce. you would owe your bank the money plus fees.

I was bored,..so I played with the guy for 3 days..im a PI so this was great for killing time....I acted so excited and ancious..got stuck in traffic in tampa couldn't get check before bank closed..that was tues..then said my bank was closed wed...then wed he cussed at me..pretended that worried me...then he had lots of apologies...then bla..bla bla and so on..then I sent text after text saying one work ++peckerhead ++over and over..then asked if he was tired of peckerhead so I started doing d****ead ___over and over  :)

Just got  a text IMMEDIATELY after posting on Craigslist from this number 662-259-7196
"I saw your ad on craigslist now, SUPER comfortable Brown Leather Couch - $300 (Marion, IA). i hope the condition is as described? also am OK with th eprice and if a certified bank check will be good for u to make payment by having it in the mail via next day air and check will clear before picking it up.
I responded, "Sorry, cash or local check only" and the number responded "Check will be drawn from Wellsfargo bank. How about that?"

I asked where he lived, no response. Then I saw all these posts for this number and informed him I was aware of the scam.

Just got a text from this number asking to purchase my baby crib set saying they would send me a certified check and we could wait for it to clear and then I can next day air the item. I responded I was only dealing with CASH buyers and I don't ship items. Total scam artist. NEVER NEVER ACCEPT ANYTHING BUT CASH on Craigslist.

Looks like a close to a year has past for a posting complaint for this number. Wants to buy my car sight unseen with a cashier's check. Good luck with that dude!

I received a text from this man regaurding my laptop for sale, same as everyone

I've realised everyone is convinced this is a scam, but What are the consequence for following
through with the deal? How is it possible to get scammed if I have the check in hand and it clears?
Assuming the check even shows up of course .
The only information this person has gotten from me is my full name
and address. But he wont get very far anyway since I have lifelock.

Very similar circumstances to what others have described.  Complete scan, texts seem to have been saved and re-sent, as if they've done it a million times.  Avoid!

Just got spammed from this guy!  I took a screen shot of this web site with everyone talking about him since June of last year!  Awsome! Maybe he will quit... Or just change his number... But at lest his number is out there as a scammer!

Same thing for me, selling something on craigslist and same text about certified mail.

Just got one yesterday from "James Yeoman" or something like that couldn't really understand him. Chinese or Asian I think. wanting to buy my bike off craigslist without even looking at it!! Hate'em!!!

Got a text from this guy this morning! The said his name is James! Glad i searched it!! Ugh! I hate a scammer!

He is still trying to scam people.  He responded to my ad on CL via test message.  Who agrees to pay the asking price on an item that says "or best offer"??  He wanted to pay with a bank check and then pick up later.  Why not just bring cash with you?  Thought it was strange. Glad I checked here 1st.

Just about got into the same situation with the same guy. He texts me about a bed I'm selling on Craigslist. Insists he'll send a certified bank check to pay via one day airmail. Find out after some probing he's in Mississippi, his name is "James". Tried to call him and him me and all I got was static on his side. He says he has arrangements to pick up other things locally where I am (Arizona) from other buyers. Realizing what was going on, I ended the deal with the guy. Upon doing some further research of what little into I have from this guy, apparently he's one of the most popular CL scammers out there. Looks like I just barely managed to get out of a sticky situation... I hope this guy gets caught and soon before too many more people fall victim to his BS.

this guy texted me about some wheels for sale did'nt want to look at them wanted to over night the check and have an agent pick them up, i cancelled before transaction was done after talking to someone seemed not right.

I am selling a scooter on Craigslist.  Same story as everyone else...offered to pay full price with an overnighted check...claimed his name was James.  His phone was so crackly I couldnt understand him but his voice was heavily accented.  Feels like a scam to me!  I am not falling for it.

He did the same to me. He was trying to buy an exercises machine. But good thing i look the number up.

Got a reply from this number on a Craigslist ad. Asking the same stuff everyone else has been saying. Jokes on him now

I got the same text - I wished I would have searched his number first but I cancelled the sale like TD did and I agree with CC - Craigslist needs to notified

This same thing, craigslist with this # someone should find a way to alert craigslist. I agree scammers should be stopped there is no telling how many people he's already taken advantage of. He still seems to be at it. Although I knew I will say I am very appreciative of a site like this!

This guy said his name is Terry form this same number.  Wanted to buy a $900 item from me without seeing it.  Told me he was too busy to come by.  I looked up his number and found out he was from Mississippi.   Now he is upset because I won't deal with him.

This person did the same to me. He wanted my name and address to send me a cashiers check so that i can proceed with the sale as quickly as possible. I dont like giving out my information so i looked up the number and ended up here. And it was also about an item i posted on craigslist.

I had an item on craigslist as well and got a text from this number. They said they'd send a cashier's check then come pick my item up as I held the cash from the check in my hand. I told them to call, they did and it was some dirty Jamaican SCAM artist, that's all they are good for any more. They just try to cheat us AMERICANS.. I then told him I changed my mind and it's not for sale

received call from 662-259-7196. 662- is the area code form mexico.. sounds like a scam to me. I asked were the person was from and he texed back from Mississippi.I don't think so.  he aslo said he bought other things from around my area (which no were close to were I am) and will have someone come pick up my item then he will mail me a check. These are the kind of people we have to look out for  to help protect our fellow man. I know I wouldn't want to get taken for a ride and who ever I help to not have to be taken advantage of, I will do my best. we have to pull together to get ride of this kind of thing. I think my item would have gone to mexico, and more money taken away from the us.
