You should also be aware that it is ridiculously easy to obtain a "070" personal number in the United Kingdom.  They can obtained for free, with diversion (call forwarding) to a number of your choice, even outside of the U.K.  And the CALLER pays the cost of the diversion by paying a premium for calling the number!

There are currently British laws in force that require safeguards with respect to these numbers -- e.g., the owner of the number is supposed to give the carrier providing this number real, honest personal information about him or herself (but when have you ever heard of a Nigerian 419 scammer that did that?) and the owner of the number cannot share fees with the carrier, unlike some other U.K. numbers, where the owner gets a share of the profits produced by fees charged to callers for calling the number.  But using the number as a "one off" for advertising something when you don't want to give out your actual home telephone number is considered OK, as far as I am able to determine.  In fact, it appears that that is exactly one of the reasons this type of number exists at all aside from giving travelers a single number where they can be reached no matter where they are.

These "070" numbers are usually written with a + and the country code "44" but without the leading "0" to indicate that you have to dial your international dialing prefix (instead of the "+" -- usually the international dialing prefix is "011" in the United States and Canada, but may vary depending upon your carrier and is often something else outside the U.S. and Canada) followed by the U.K. country code "44" followed by "70" and the rest of the number.

Thus, +447017602550 is a U.K. personal number.  You have no idea who you might reach or where you are calling when you call it, and the cost you pay for calling it is as opaque as a whirlpool in a mud puddle.  It's very difficult to find out, although there are supposed to be maximums in place in the U.K. that can still be rather expensive.  Calling from a U.K. cell phone especially can get very expensive!

If you want, you can go ahead and call +447017602550 if you want.  Just check with your carrier to determine how much it will cost you before you do.  That particular number is set up right now to dial my voice mail!  (You won't hear my voice, though, just a standard voice mail greeting.)  I got the number just this morning to prove to myself how easy it was to get one of these numbers for free.  I have, however, set it up to reject anonymous callers.

At least if you call my number, you won't be reaching a scammer.  But I recommend AGAINST calling ANY number that starts with +4470... (and several other, possibly even more expensive British-prefixed numbers) unless you know who it is and why you have to reach them that way.  The number may well be forwarded to Nigeria -- and YOU would be paying for it!

IMPORTANT: It you try calling  my voice mail at +447017602550, it will NOT be free to you to call, and I can't be responsible for the charges made to you by your phone company for dialing it!  (Just remember that I don't get any of it.)  I checked the prices on three different carriers offering VOIP service in the U.S. to see how much it might cost a caller from the U.S. to dial my number.  The price varies from about 8 cents per minute to 30 cents per minute.  One of the carriers had a quality option that brought one of these prices up to about 45 cents per minute.  It may be MUCH more than that if you try calling from a cell phone or a traditional landline service!  (FYI, whenever you dial the U.K., try to dial regular landline numbers rather than cell phone numbers if you can.  It is MUCH less expensive for the overseas call because, unlike the U.S., in the U.K. it is the CALLER who pays for the cell phone airtime.)

It's a scam - did you actually enter this lottery?  There's no such thing as an email lottery - no matter what the scammers tell you.  They will ask you to deposit checks and then send them money for "taxes" or other fees.  The check they had you deposit will come back as stolen or fraudulent and you will be out of the money that they had you send.  Remember - if you win something, then you NEVER have to pay anything to receive it!
