Someone called me claiming to be a investigator. He tried to verify my social and address and then went on to say it involved a debt and that they would serve an arrest warrant issued to me if I did not cooperate with them. I hung up at that point knowing it was some sort of scare tactic. The guy also called my office at work and left the same message. I am bout to go off!!!

I recieved a call from them sometime in the summer.  I agreed to pay 25 dollars a week for a bill I had.  I called them to pay it off early, they then told me I had to pay another 410 dollars to settle.  One week later a different collection company stole 125 dollars out of my account.  I got all that money back but it cost me 15 dollars for a wire transfer.  Last week 12/13/12 Stanley Lawhorn and Lebo stole 105 dollars out of my account.  I am still waiting for my refund.  DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE.  Go to court, or better yet pay for Pre-Paid Legal at a cost of about 25 dollars a month and have them deal with it.

Just NOW received this call and they left yet another message. They have called 8 times within this past month and EVERY time they leave a message. Thing is, it's the EXACT same message each time. If they were gonna do anything, they would have by now. It is a TOTAL SCAM!!! Please, people, don't deal with these scum buckets. I keep filing complaints, so let's keep doing that and hope it stops even if it seems like it's not doing any good.

My brother received a call today from a Ms. Branson from phone #678-245-4406.  She informed him that she needed to speak to me concerning a summons and that she needed to speak to me today "or else".  First, if this was not spam, she could not, under the penalty of law, speak to anyone concerning any of my affairs unless I have authorized her to do so.  In addition, this is a scam and they are trying to get me to send them money for something that isn't mine.  I spoke with Ms. Branson probably about 6-8 months ago with the same information.  I informed her that if I did owe money that she should send me something in writing outlining who the original creditor was and the exact amount of what was owed.  I was scammed before due to these calls and I want it to stop.  Especially since they are calling my brother, harassing him and providing him with private information.  Brother or not, he was not authorized to speak to anyone on my beha

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

To everyone and anyone out there.  If you get a call from a number you don't recgonize just hit ignore on your phone or let them leave a message.  Then google the number and most likely you will come to a website like this one and find out if the number is legit or not. Don't ever give out any personal information unless you get something in writing.  Don't entertain this.

Its a total scam. I've had them say that to me several times. The only way a company can get wage garnishments is if they actually take you to court. That takes YEARS! and usually the dollar amount owed is to small to even make an issue to take to court and in most states if you owe a debt for more than 7 years it is wiped off your credit report and the debt collection agencies write it off their books. I hope this helps

tammy, i did send them money also for a payday loan that closed. they started calling me about two monthes ago. i feel like a fool also, i went into my account and found out they not only took one payment but two, without my permission. i have now filed a claim with my bank and will get one payment back and hopefully both and let my bank go after them. if they think they are getting another one from me good luck. they have not only called my cell but my work as well, i will get a lawyer if they continue to call espically my work number. i don't think you made a mistake. i would cancel my card so they can't take any money and for those calls you are getting i would check it out with the better business bureau to see if the company is real before doing anything more. i hope things work out for you.

I have has the same number since 1995 and never used payday loans. We have not had credit cards for over 20 years and do not write checks. We constantly get these calls. They are a scam. Do not pay thrived you do they will mark you as an easy mark. To the one who have their card number,cancel it and replace, put a fraud alert on your account. better safe then wiped out. Yes, there are people who pay their bills electronically or with autodraft and have no checks for the specific reason to avoid the possibility of fraud. It is austere but pragmatic. No, we aren't rich and have a mortgage and normal bills, but we are military background and make do with what we have.  We get these calls threatening us all the time, yet nothing is on our credit report since we have never done business with their "client" at anytime. They will not stop calling, even after being reported to the States Attorney of the state they call from and the date they are calling to.

I feel like a fool, after reading everyone's messages. I did give them my debt card # because they had all the right information about one payday loan debt that I still owed. They gave me the name of the company I owed, the last 4 of my social (which i never repeated to them), the amount on the penny I owed ($594.58), and when I took it out. So I set up 4 payment plans to get rid of it using my debt card.. The last payment was 07/25/12. They took the payments out faithfully. They didn't wipe my account. And they never threaten me when I told them at first i didn't have the money to pay it right away. However, a few days ago I started getting another automatted message about fraud and debt. What should I do? Should i go to the company to which i owed in the first place and asked if they hired these people and was the debt paid in full or should i cancel my debt card and get another one and hope that's the end of it? Either way, I feel like a fool. But on the other hand, could they be a real debt collection company because they didn't wipe me out. I'm confused and afriad I've made a mistake.

Started receiving calls just a few days ago.  they left incomplete automated messages.  I redialed the number instead of the toll free number they gave me and Amber answered immediately.  I asked her how she was doing...she was surprised...hardly knew how to answer.  I then told her I'd received incomplete messages from the number I dialed.  She verified my phone number and then told me the name of the person she'd been trying to reach.  Wasn't me or anyone I knew.  She said they would remove my number from their list...we'll see.

I have received a message similar to what is being described.   They claim they are a law firm with 3 names. They claim that they are representing a client and that I endorsed a check which was meant for the client.  I do not recall doing any such thing.  The call appears to be a recording of a female with a monotone voice.  I hope the authorities can track this call down and investigate it since it appears to be called to people at  random.  I feel that the call is illegal under the harassment laws of my state.   I hope that the authorities can track this person down who is calling from Atlanta Georgia.   I hope this person can be restrained from making this type of phone call.  I have received this call twice, maybe 3 times.  The caller is talking so fast and does not give specific details like the name of their client.   The caller mentions putting a lien on my social security number.   I have never heard of this and doubt it can be done.

I am also receiving messages weekly from this number. They never say where they are calling from or who they are trying to reach. Since I don't write checks, I know it is not something against me. I called back once right after I got the message and requested they call back to tell me whom they are trying to reach. Of coarse, no call until the next message and again no name. I also believe this to be a scam. My social has nothing to do with my phone number and if they were legitimately trying to reach me, they would mail something.

I had a similar call the other day  from  Katie Scott.   She was calling from a fake company she called Nationwide Investigations.   That is a real business name, however, that is not who she works for.   She used the scare tactic that I would be arrested  if I didnt wire her money right away.   I told her that if she sent me a bill/statement   that I would gladly send a payment.   Of course she said  "that isn't how we do things,   it has to be done RIGHT NOW"    "Um.....well,  thats not how I do things".  I told her.    I told her that I just wanted to contact the Police department and check on this supposed "case"  she  had filed with them.   She screamed  "im filing it AS WE SPEAK"   and hung up on me.     Im so sick of these calls.   I just recently filed bankruptcy.  All collection calls have stopped.  Except these stupid fraudulent ones.  They say they are "exempt"  from bankruptcy.   I know for a fact  that they are not.    I dont know what to do.

I have received SEVERAL calls from this phone number.   A few months ago I actually spoke to someone,  they said the same thing.  Something about a complaint and misrepresentation of a check bla bla blah,  anyway,  they scared the crap out of me.  I almost sent them money,  but told them that before I would, that I wanted them to send me a bill or statement.   Nothing ever came.    We recently filed bankruptcy in which I included them.   Now they are calling.....or harrassing me, as well as family members!   They are telling me   that I cant include it in the bankruptcy.   I told them that   this was a payday loan  that I took out over 3 years ago,  I asked the courts and they said that I absolutely CAN,  and should.     They will NOT leave me alone.    Tonight they called me THREE times.    Not sure what to do.

Claimed to be from some firm (did not say the firm) simply that there is a complaint about misrepresentation of a check for funds or something... I write checks for two things none of which would do this so I am calling BS, called every day for a week in May left a message once, called tonight left the exact same if you do not respond by end of today legal action may be taken.. I am curious how times they will actually leave that message before they stop or actually take legal action they claim they are going too... I thought they were going to in May I guess they decided to be nice and give me an extension... Oh they also claim it is tied to your SS# so I am sure it is scam crap considering they do not even address me by name.
