If you get a call from this company you need to know first and foremost that IT IS A SCAM.  Doesn't matter if you've had a payday loan in the past or not - it's still a scam.  If you have any doubts, call the original creditor or better yet - call your state's Attorney General office and they will be very quick to tell you the same thing.  

If you've already given them bank account info, immediately go to your bank and cancel your card/account and get a new one.  This way they won't be able to get any money from you. Check your credit reports for free at annualcreditreport.com and if your financial institution has a credit monitoring program, consider setting that up.  Do not sign or agree to anything.  

If you decide to continue forward with paying this bogus debt you think you owe, please know that under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) they are required within 5 days of first contacting you to provide the amount of the debt, the name of the original creditor and your rights under the FDCPA.  They will likely tell you that they've emailed or sent it already but do not do anything until you receive this.  It is what is known as a written validation notice.  If by some miracle they DO send it, then you should contact the original creditor directly and verify that the  involvement of Southern Asset Recovery is valid.  You might be better off dealing with them for payments, if they allow it.    

Under the law, they cannot threaten you in any way.  If they try to tell you that you've committed check fraud or some other crime that will result in you going to jail or taking you to court, tell them they are more than welcome to pursue those avenues.  The most they can do is send the account to collections, NOT court.  And they are certainly have no authority to arrest you.  If it makes you feel better, check your local/county court records online or call them to verify that there are no pending cases against you.  The case would go to the court where YOU live, not in Georgia where this company is located.

If you got as far as agreeing to pay and received a payment authorization form, they may have told you that they cannot accept payments directly and instead use a service called Payment Processing.com which is listed on the form.  The first clue is that this URL has a space between the two words so right off the bat you know it's not legit; if you do some checking, you'll find that URL doesn't even exist.  If they email you the form, it will likely come from an email address ending in remitnow.us.  A check of Whois records will tell you that this domain is registered to Southern Asset Recovery.  Interesting that they say they can't accept payments, yet they own this domain and its email addresses.  Big red flag there.  And if you do end up paying them money, you can expect to get more calls in the future because you're not paying a legitimate debt in the first place and it will therefore never be recorded as such.  Don't believe them when they say they'll send a letter after payment to say the debt is paid in full.

And one other thing to consider even if you pay a legitimate debt to this place or any other - if you "settle" for a lesser amount than what you actually owed in the first place, you will receive a 1099 form the following year because you have to claim the difference as income.  So you're actually losing money by agreeing to settle.  If you incurred the debt in the first place, do the right thing and pay it in full even if it means making payments over several months.  Most places would rather see the money slowly coming back to them rather than not at all.  

The reason these scams keep going on is because places like this are really good at intimidating people into paying.  Your best bet, and the advice that your Attorney General's office will give you, is to ignore their calls.  Don't waste your time or energy on trying to argue with them or even give them a piece of your mind.  They don't care and they'll just move on to the next tactic.  You should also register for the Do Not Call List (donotcall.gov) and file a complaint with the feds (https://help.consumerfinance.gov/app/debtcollection/ask#currentPage=0).

I am trying to get ahold of someone through G&A to find out what is going on. But their number is now disconnected. Hi I paid them a couple times and they sent me and email on two of the three i owed, now i am getting calls from ever ageny under the sun i even have just been harssed again by a Agent Davis from another company. my question like others, how do we know that we are clearing our debt with whom they said we are and how do we find out? I have received a fax to my job from 678-809-2209. I called them back and was talked to very rude. He told me he will call my job everyday and he hopes I lose my job. I did use language that I'd rather not repeat but I have had this happen to me many times but this company is very aggressive and I'm filing a complaint

9/6/12 I was called by a woman who did not say her name I was very rudely told that I was going to be served with papers for a "bad" check in way of a payday loan when i told them that I was in the middle of a bankruptcy i was told that I would need a criminal lawyer because do to the fine print I was not able to fill this. when i told the woman that she was very rude and that i would like to speak with a manager she said that i could not than hung up on me so i called back and spoke with a men named roger when i told him that they would need to speak with my lawyer he told me that I was paying too much to file for bankruptcy he seemed nice so I told him that i would still talk to my lawyer anyway and get back to him later that day when i called him back he said that he would call me back once he spoke with his boss..... okay so now today 9/10/12 I get a call from them this time the woman who call me a dumb a** and retarded and a bum because I have/ did not pay any money when i tried to let her know what was said between myself and the roger guy she says she don't care and that maybe i should get off my a** and work so i can pay them when i asked to speak with a manger she hangs up several times once i called from another phone number and got to speak with this roger guy he tells me that he did not care how anybody spoke to me that they are not in customer service so i can go to jail or pay.

G and A Legal Services  have been calling me about not paying a payday in 2008 and I will pick up on fraud charges. I was really scared until I got legal advise I called them back to see if he could give me some paperwork regarding this matter and he told me NO!! they don't give out paperwork and to discuss paperwork with the police department after I get pick up

I am being harrased by a gentleman who claims his name is Marshall Thomas.  He says he works for GNA located somewhere near Atlanta.  He refuses to give an address or an e-mail address.  He is threatening me about a  debt that was paid in full years ago.  I have documentation to support the payment. I am not obligated by law to give this information to another collector to keep them from harrasing me.  I asked for an address so I could appropriately address this issue,  however he is unwilling to give me a location or P. O. Box. He offerred me a fax option, which is against the law.  I can't send them a cease and desist letter because they will not provide an address where this can be done.  I am reporting this the to Texas Attorney General.

I have seen in my years many different actions being takin against debt collectors... thankfully I worked for the ones that didn't break laws... some of the things that can happen to them include:

G &A Called me from another number 480 499-0359 stating that I have an outstanding loan. I advised them that I didn't owe anyone. Then send us a copy of the paid of full letter. I just hung up. They also called a friend in Florida trying to scare her telling her I was under investigation for fraud. The first time I got the call it was from 678 809-2209. I have filed a compliant with the GA and AZ attorney generals office. This stuff needs to stop. The claim to be an attorneys office and investigating agency. I put the phone number in reverse look-up and was told it is not a valid number. (480 499-0359)

I just got a call on my cell phone in California, and I think her name was Sabina.  She didn't say who she was calling for, or what she wanted.  She told me to call her back at 404-585-2629 x 5903.  I called her back and left her a message.  We will see

I have received numerous messages and calls from this G&A Legal Services as they claim to be. First it was some guy "Joe" who would call and leave messages then i returned the call and spoke to him to see what this was all about. He proceeded to tell me that i had a cash loan advance in 2008 that had not been paid and that we could make an arrangement today and i could pay half of the balance and that would take care of it. When i proceeded to ask about the account and try to get details he put me on hold and transferred me to the "office manager-Jeffrey" who then took on the bad guy act of talking down to me and calling me a theif and a dead beat! When i asked for the phone number or address of the agency where i had supposedly gotten the loan he got irritated and told me that he was going to push this case himself and see to it that i was arrested for fraud! He then hung up on me and a few minutes later called back to ask for a fax number, when i told him i did not have one he immediately hung up on me before even letting me ask for an email or address! Who are these G&A people and how do they get my information?? The phone number they called from is 678) 909-0762.

I, too got a message from this phone number, via my mother. They called her almost a year ago and told her I had a warrant for my arrest, and would go to jail, if I did not call them back and make restitution on a payday advance loan. I admit that I did have an outstanding debt with the company in question and thought it was legit, so I called them and set up a payment plan.  After paying over $1600.00 and making the final payment just last month. I have been getting the runaround on receiving paperwork stating that this debt has been paid in full. I paid this, thinking it was legitimate, and busting my butt to do it, only to now think that it was a scam. I have no idea what to do to recover my money or if there's even anything I CAN do to get it back. I have mainly delt with a Mr. Covington and a Ms. Charma Robinson/Robertson, at extensions 5973 and 5969. I have never gotten anything by mail, just email, which was basically something I had to sign and mail back to them, outlining my payment arrangement. When the first contacted my Mom, the man was rude and upset her to the point she was almost hysterical. She is not in the best of health, and when I did call them back, I told him how much he had upset her and I get did an apology...not that that really matters if this was all a fraudulant scam...

I was contacted by these people thru my mother. They too had her freaking out thinking I was going to be arrested over some check fraud/payday loan issue. I called the # and spoke to a Ms. Feltman who broughtan old payday loan company that I had dealt with before. She immediately told me there was a settlement for the account for $2100. Then told me I could pay it off with only $1800. I told her to send me some actual documentation that I owed this money, First she wanted an e-mail address, when I said I didn't have a computer, she said she would send some papers to my address. I'm still waiting for those papers!!!!!!

Mrs. Donna Hotz is a former emplyee who was fired for theft,lying to consumers, and many FDCPA rule violations. She is currently employed with another recovery company and she is under investigation. Since leaving there have been multiple allegations of FDCPA rules allegations. Outside of her there are no other ones, she was the cause of the majority.

this company called my cell phone told me I was being investigated for check fraud which is a complete.. untruth I don't appreciate it. they said they were from g & a legal services. and they would send me paperwork at my home or on my federal job. they also told a friend of mine the same thing I don't know who these people are but I wish they would not call me again leave me alone.
